meh, the animation its kinda awful, but i would try it anyway, tamara looks good btw
Ah, I see. There’s stuff I don’t quite agree with (but I could also chalk that up to the fact that I rarely ever deal with pixel art), but I guess I’m picking at semantics here when it comes to pixels, and I don’t want to get too OT with this.
This disappointed me as well.
None of the combos in the new trailer looked interesting to me, aside than Folo and Virginia’s. I wish they showed some of Sven’s stuff. Next time I guess.
Yeah, depends on how you see it. I see “pixel art” as what Zinac said, because I see it as a distinct “style” of art. But you can also see it the techincal way and then of course it’s all pixels except for 3d and vectors (Another World: The Fighting Game?).
And there’s a kind of hybrid in Rumble Fish. The art is pixels(at least I think so), but animation is “numbers”/vector.
Is Yuri wielding a giant scissor?
Well, I’m still going to give Silvio a try for a main… At least his animations aren’t quite as horrible as that first guy they show in the gameplay part of the trailer… Otto I think?
Oh, and I agree what fallot wrote earlier… The backgrounds are not good.
Its probably just the compression. It certainly looks like pixel art during Tamala’s super. Of course, I’m no authority and will defer to your opinion :3
Also, I figured out what was bothering me about Yuri. In certain frames her gigantic scissors seem to just… disappear. Its especially evident in the very end of the gameplay footage, but it could just be a part of that move.
I’m honestly surprised this game is coming out at all. Compared to your standard donjon game it looks alright, but obviously it’s going to have to go up against some pretty stiff competition right now.
The animation is iffy, but its more uneven than it being overall horrible.
- Tamala not moving at all when she does her super
- Nobiko standing up in one frames from a down attack yet her falling movement is frame-by-frame (checked on VirtualDub)
- Filo BUNNAY DOUBLE FIST recovers in one frame but his boxing spasm is also frame-by-frame
- What is that flash at Virginia’s dash? The jiggle and dash crossover is hawt though.
- For being a cover character and FIGHTING WITH SCISSORS, she’s one that’s actually horrible overall, the scissors even disappear for a second for that spin.
Still hyped though, though I’m maining Tamala and Filo, second mostly for beating Shion for widest hips on a male. Possibly I’ll trade one of them with Virginia if I’m still interested in the game after a month.
Oh geez, sorry guys, I understand what’s going on better now. My original post was poorly worded
I didn’t intend to say that “everything created using pixels qualifies as pixel art.” That would suggest my entire portfolio consists of pixel art, which it most certainly does not
My original intention was that the resolution of a sprite shouldn’t dictate whether or not it’s pixel art. When I look at MKV, Melty Blood, 3s, or KoFXII, I see them all as pixel art because I think the methods used to create the sprites are the same. Hi res or low res in these kinds of games…it’s all pixel art to me.
Good shit. Scissor girl fights hella sexy and folo doesn’t look bad either.
HYPE
I like how they xcopied a BBB stage (mostly because it was my favorite stage).
Other than that, I don’t get what you guys are bitching about. The game looks GREAT! Hell, that trailer got me pretty damn hype.
Ah, so that’s it. But what was said that unlike Melty Blood and KoF XII, it seems this one is simply using small scans of animation frames, you could say a cell scan, like this:

But “pixel art” is a specific artstyle, look at those (warning, incoming awesome):

Even “street pixel-art”:

Back on topic, yeah, I also find the animation somewhat offputting. In some way, it looks stiffer than ST, and that means a lot
Really, I don’t mind ultra-stiff animation as much as say, totally stagnate backgrounds. That kinda crap annoys me. Hell, ST, didn’t have backgrounds with nothing going on, and AH is spared because of the changes during a burst and the crapload of the effects going on from the characters. But this…
I just want to not be board after a few hours in training mode.
Im a simple man.
Thanks for clearing that up guys. I wasn’t really thinking of distinct “style,” even though the term itself kinda implies it Sorry for de-railing the thread
Anyway, I’m still interested in at least trying the game out regardless of the animation/backgrounds.
Well the video says that the game footage is still on WIP so… sitll this exceeds any 2D work on any Doujin game.
Not really no. Akatsuki and BBB both look and animate better imo. Even that poor fucking game E’s Laf animated better at least. I’ll spare any further criticism till more info, release or a demo though
All this talk about BBB makes me so sad that the music and presentation were wasted.
In this thread, we whine about how much we wish BBB was a good and successful game.
But yeah, seriously. I loved the presentation of BBB.
B3? yeah, maybe?
Akatsuki? HELL NO, i love that game a fucking lot, but you cant deny that even Fatal Fury Special got more frames
Its not even about frame count is it, this game is just ugly and strange looking. Akatsuki still looks better.
