Don’t forget, backers can now download the Apology Edition of the game from the Humble Store. It lets you play 4 stages I think.
Transformation system is still in in some form, pretty sure I saw a video of beck using a sword form. I don’t think it’s as expansive as it was believed to be, think it’s just the standard “get powers from bosses”.
Without the transformation this pretty much becomes another mega man clone. I was looking forward to it, it was supposed to be a key feature, wth Inafune has been doing all this time.
Without the transformation mechanic, it really does feel like a mega buster only megaman game with more annoying boss fights. You can shoot the shit out of a boss, but won’t do any damage until you charge them when they become vulnerable. And unless you hit them with that charge immediately, the amount of damage you do will decay rapidly.
Mega Man: Unlimited is probably the most well-done.
There’s Rockman 4: Minus Infinity, which is an amazing remake of MM4… Then there’s the off-beat take that is Rokko Chan, which isn’t technically a MM game, but stars a female bot and features dashing like the MMX games, but is otherwise an homage to classic 8-bit Mega Man. Rokko Chan also has an amazing soundtrack.
Rockman 7 and 8 Famicom Remake, which takes MM7 and 8 and remakes them in the classic 8-bit aesthetic, with a few changes to keep things fresh.
There’s a ton of them out there(and quite a few shitty ones), but they are all at the very least better than Mega Man X-over, and unlike MN9, are actually available now and don’t require you to line Inafune’s crooked pockets.
