It has been far too long since I’ve busted one of these out…
Thank you, my friend. God bless you, your taste cancer, and your child-like faith in that shitty company that can’t walk and chew bubblegum without massively fucking up.
I just want to point out that if most other developers made a second kickstarter after having their game funded over 4 times, most of you especially Po would be trotting them out as an example of how the industry needs to not be so greedy and cut down on production budgets.
As hype as I am for this game, Inafune and co do seem to be taking advantage of their fans to some degree. That being said, it’s like the annual COD’s, Inafune and co see the demographic (gamers wanting a real Mega Man) and are tapping into it as hard as they can which is the point of capitalism.
I actually agree with Zoo on this. Inafune is definitely milking at this point… However, everyone still has the right to voice their concerns and not give any more money to the project until we see a finished product.
Just as Inafune has the right to shakedown as many dummies who keep pouring money into his pockets much like Activision does every November.
What MN9’s doing plenty of other games have done before. It’s referred to as slacker backing wherein the option to donate through paypal remains open. Sometimes it stays open for the entire duration of the game’s development. Slacker backers are the people who didn’t get a chance but wanted to donate during the initial Kickstarter campaign. Maybe they didn’t have the money at the time, or maybe they didn’t hear about it since it’s only a one month long window. In any case those people are who this new round of funding is primarily aimed towards. If you already backed then great, you’re still getting the original game.
The only key difference this time is Comcept is actually telling people where the first 100k of the money is being used for. It’d be nice if they broke the numbers down and gave a detailed cost breakdown. For example, who are they hiring and what recording studio are they using that’s going to cost them 100k. Are they getting Johnny Yong Bosch to voice Beck? Get JYB.
But still, it’s a lot better when other devs simply fall back and use the blanket statement of “all slacker backer money will be put towards the game’s development”. Like what exactly does that mean? Does that include using the funds to order pizzas for weekend crunches? Or buying bus passes for the employees so they can commute to work? Hell, instead of voice acting I’d rather Inafune use the money and buy a new Lexus. At least then people can say he’s being honest and he isn’t trying to rip off the fans.
The gameplay and level design were good, everything else was baaad. Music, art direction, writing, everything was terribad. The writing, in particular, was awful. It’s difficult to take the characters seriously when they all speak like 12-year-olds who just discovered the word ‘fuck.’
I think people tend to forget that several mega man games were made without kenji’s influence or involvement. Mainly due to his very public displeasure with Mega Man and how they treated the franchise. And before he quit he even said that japan needs to step their gaming design
