Sales absolutely do matter when it comes to complaints of people clamoring for sequels. The sequels would be there if the series sold well. They When the games don’t sell there are no sequels. It’s pretty simple.
I feel we’re making two different arguments. Yes, sales are important, everyone knows this.
I’m saying that quality has taken a backseat to sales, when the two should not be mutually exclusive… The Mega Man series took a nosedive in sales right around the time the quality of the games dipped due to over-production… Not a coincidence, I think.
Except they tend to be mutually exclusive. Some of the best quality of games don’t get bought much even with all the critical praise and hype it can muster (see Beyond Good and Evil) while some poor games that even its owners dislike can sell a ton.
Brand recognition, advertising, release date, console availability. These will affect sales moreso than quality honestly.
And you know it’s funny, you, who believes that people should buy and not buy things based on what’s “good” for the community, now want to ignore when potential good games don’t sell well and thus don’t get deserved sequels?
Never thought you’d be one to half-ass a crusade, but you’ve been full of stupidity since day one.
No they shouldn’t be mutually exclusive, but I wonder if Capcom can tell the difference. I wonder if they KNOW that their Mega Man games were bad, or if they’re all “we’re giving you what you want, and you wont buy it, so fuck him.” I think a lot of the criticism is bolstered by them not even paying tribute to him in games that aren’t his. I.e. UMvC3 and Bad Box Art (this was pretty hilarious though) MM in SFxT. Then there’s the whole 25th anniversary snafu where the only reason he was even recognized was because of them endorsing a mediocre fan game. It’s kind of sad really. Mario has endured, and even with the shitty deluge of Sonic games Sega has managed to keep Sonic relevant, yet Capcom has seemingly given up on a character almost equally iconic within the video game world. The irony is that Mighty No. 9 should be a huge sign that the interest is there for a Mega Man game, but Capcom can’t, or wont figure out how to take advantage.
It doesn’t make sense, but consumers have never bought things with rationale first. If the manufacturer can capture the mainstream consumer base with some fancy technical data, it’s game over. All they have to do is attach something that seems great to their product, and it will fly off the shelfs.
As for the industry crashing, I wouldn’t want it to crash. You think games suck now? They are going to be shit for a while before we start getting decent games again on a regualar basis if the system crashes. companies are going to go into full frenzy mode and pump out a bunch of stupid shit to salvage the situation. What needs to happen is that companies need to stop abusing the consumer base (mainstream) so much. It’s only a matter of time before the base stops buying this shit
Except yet again, quality is never the defining factor to buys. If they were, you would never have to bitch about AAA titles being bought again.
Here’s the thing. No matter what you may think of a game, you never know its true quality until its bought. That’s why initial weekend sales tend to be everything.
It’s not about being good for sales it’s about LOOKING good, and I don’t mean just graphically. I mean, you just show your best face that you can, a ton of advertisement. Releasing at the right time as well. I mean, you could be the best game ever, but if you happen to release at the same time as a CoD game, you just made your life 20x harder for absolutely no reason.
Life doesn’t run on common sense. The best products aren’t always bought. The best people aren’t always hired. The best people do not always win.
I made a thread on the MN9 forums about this but why does Beck have such an ugly run animation -flopping his limbs and neck everywhere- but all his other ones look so bold and dynamic like he’s trying to be a real hero.
Also Call’s run animation looks pathetic too. If they were in MM Powered Up it would be fine but here they kinda clash with the bad assery on display.
Other than that the footage and Call changes are hot.
I think the running animation, it fits. Mighty No 9 seems like its going for X style gameplay but a Classic take on the look, so the character can have a cute little bounce to his run.
My personal favorite running animation is from MegaMan 8.
Sure, but what’s the point of pointing out things you don’t like knowing that it’s going to change anyway? Game’s not even in alpha and people are already shitting on it. Would it be better if they showed nothing at all?
