Microsoft Windows 10 thread

Windows 10 bodied my track pad. Even with the setting tweaks, it just doesn’t work that well. I like how it’s trying to imitate Apple’s shit, but at least make sure it works on older laptops too.

Tested out the Xbox One streaming. The video is jittery, high contrast, and there’s no noticeable difference between med and high quality settings. Obviously there’s a lot to improve but the foundation is in place for something good. The rest of the actual Xbox app is solid.

Popcorn Time doesn’t notice my X1 at all anymore (haven’t tried my PS4 yet) so DLNA streaming has some quirks.

Casting my PC screen to the Xbox’s Wireless Display app doesn’t work.

These are all stuff I’m expecting to get fixed with coming updates.

Had to go look up why an old hard drive connected with a USB adapter kept shutting off. Had to use a registry hack to make it stop because power options don’t do anything for it. Apparently this has been an issue using some hard drives externally since 8. Dafuq, Microsoft.

This just sounds so wrong but according to the comments 2 other people have confirmed they were told the same thing by tech support :WTF: But then again this is MS the people that wanted to brick your XboxOne if you didn’t connect it to the internet every 24hrs…

i upgrade from win 8.1 … my touchpad is completely out of function…
during the night when everyone is sleeping , my computer turns on by itself… and TADAA ! The touchpad is working again!

Win 10 goofy as fack.

The live tiles are hella inconsistent on the start menu.

You can upgrade using the reservation system and Windows Update. Or by using the Setup media/ISO you downloaded from Microsoft. Either way.

When you do so, Windows 10 will activate—yes, you need to be online for that, obviously—and the PC’s digital entitlement will be registered with Windows Store. What gets sent to Windows Store is interesting: it’s a hardware ID, unique to your PC, which is comprised of information about its CPU, motherboard and, if available, TPM. What’s not sent to Windows Store is your Microsoft account information. Instead, it is the PC that is registered, essentially, which makes sense since you may later sell it or give it away. That PC will always activate new installs of Windows 10 going forward. (And yes, your previous OS will still activate too. This process doesn’t impact that at all.)

What if something changes with your hardware?

If it’s something major like a motherboard replacement, its hardware ID will no longer be the same. If this was done by your PC maker or an authorized repair center, no worries: they can inject an OEM key and make sure the system remains activated and will be good going forward (because the new ID is now registered with the store). If you do this yourself, you will need to phone activate.

Basically, you can change/upgrade any hardware. You’re only screwed if you change your motherboard yourself (and without access to a new genuine OEM key to implement). Your Windows 10 hardware ID is associated with the motherboard, and therefore becomes invalidated if you changed it.

I mentioned before, if people are really paranoid, they have a month to rollback to Win 7/8 in the system settings.

My Windows 10 install popped up today, but I work tomorrow, so I’ll just get off work and get really drunk and install Windows 10

Fun Fact: I have drunkenly installed every version of windows, starting from 3.1 up to 10 as of tomorrow ( I don’t think I drunkenly installed the newest Server, though, now that I think of it). I even got fucking bombed as shit in college at our college bar and did a Networking exam where I had to install windows at some point. I never got drunk during school ever again, I was fucking terrified the entire time.

I learned to get drunk AFTER school.

true gangstars like me used to have to safe boot their pc then start installing drivers one at a time until they had enough shit installed to run Doom, because of limited amounts of RAM.

When I upgraded my ram to 4mb, it was like the world changed for me.

even older gen i5’s are still great processor’s to have. Age shouldn’t matter too much so long as you’ve treated your pc somewhat well

My PC is never really pushed to its limits because I don’t do much on it but work (which consists of marketing shit or writing shit), light video editing, and video gaming from time to time. For as much money as I put into this set-up, I could have paid a lot less to do exactly the same I do now lol.

I’m getting a new graphics card for MGS5 because why the fuck not?
