You can disable it in the Home version, but it requires the registry. For the average person, you shouldn’t need or want to do this. Just place this in a text file, and change its extension to .bat to run it.
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender]“DisableAntiSpyware”=dword:00000001 Re-enable it with:
Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows Defender]“DisableAntiSpyware”=dword:00000000
This is typically an option used by Group Policy, so it should always work.
It forces a lot on you. You have to dig deep to remove a lot of crap and get things the way you like it.
Also I think I just said this when I was mad at windows store for refusing to work because it does have a lot of upsides under the hood that made me switch.
If you are on windows 8 here’s a start menu ala windows 10. You can also make it so that it disables the tiles and just shows programs in order like regular windows. I am liking it more than iobit’s startmenu.
You should be able to have it disable on its own just by installing a 3rd-party anti-virus program. Attempting to view Windows Defender at that point gives a message saying it’s no longer running on your system.
Both Adblock and Adblock Plus is available for Edge now. Won’t be able to use them until Edge gets extensions support in the anniversary update for Win 10 though (or if people are using insider builds/previews).
