…Sorry to see Wizzards go like that with all that history behind it. I heard it first opened way back in the 1960s up as a resteraunt w/ a few pinball machines. The rumor as a kid was to never go in Wizzards because it was a white crowd and you’d get your ass kick, but I soon got enough nerve to step in Wizzards when SF2 came out…thats when I met Roy. Through the years I’ve seen games/peeps come and go, hell I even slacked up after awhile, using Wizzards as a meeting place to go elsewhere. The consoles definitly had an impact. I was hoping they’ed turn it into a console/PC lan joint complete w/ internet, but maybe that too would cost a bundle. The Wizzards crew are all close enough not to part w/ each other, It wouldn’t be hard to find anybody because we WERE Wizzards. Where to next peeps? Damn! funeral arrangements for Wizzards, who woulda thunk it.

What I meant was I was responsible for organizing the largest tournament in the history of that building. Because of that, and giving them the business through other tournaments, The May’n Event Series, and loaning them SNK MVS Carts, we’re on good terms for me to be a part of their last tournament.
Pretty much agree with everything said, only I came on the scene in 1999, around 5 years ago* The hard part is, at the time (and still now to an extent), I played strictly at arcades. Ali Vegas and pretty much most of the Tekken crew will tell you that for competition, I used to be everywhere. There were regions of players throughout the state, yet every one pretty much knew who Judgment Day was because I took the time out for them day after day. Nowadays, I can’t do that (because 75% of those places are gone, and my schedule gets busier and busier). But akin to a hangout spot, I always made a bit of time for Wizzards. It’s where I can get practice and competition for my strict schedule.
Bluntly put, I don’t play console because I simply don’t have time for it. No offense to anyone, especially Robotron; one of the very few people who I didn’t meet through the arcade, and has helped me on many occasions. Even though I’d like to, there are weeks when I just can’t do it.
So with the closing of Wizzards, sans any AA tournaments, random arcade visits, tournies that I decide to hold, or if you happen to bowl, I’d almost be erased from existance from everyone I know here for the past 5 years. That’d be my biggest beef, because I know how hard it is for me to keep in touch based on my past (except for VDO and Julian who owes me money; I haven’t forgotten).
But enough rambling, I hate that type of pessimistic attitude.

*Talking about Wizzards; as a few will know, I got into fighting games around 92, but mainly on the westside of town.
JD: I’m sure we’ll start up group bowling again, but I don’t know when its going to occur because I work on Tuesdays now and Sundays and Mondays are (gay.) wrestling nights.
All depends on what days Gaylor Lanes is going to keep their All-U-Can-Bowl thing on. I don’t know about you but I’m not bowling at no ghetto ass Thunderbowl. F’ that place. >;)

This Halo tournament is taking too long to start. We already know that Team Tomato Fountain has got it in the bag, and we got shit to buy, and bills to pay. Ah well, I guess it’ll give some rookies some time to obtain some “skills” and then hope only more to beat us.
I also got to see the new season of the NEW Turtles cartoon…that show is badass. Usagi Yojimbo is the Man’s Man’s MAN!

Well, Wizzard’s is in it’s final stages of existance. I’ve met ALOT of great people from there. BTW, how many of us are there? I know it’s a good 20 or so. To see Wizzard’s go will be greatly missed. On the last day of Wizzard’s, we should ALL be in a large group photo. That’d be awesome, and when our kids ask us “what were video games like 20 years ago?”, and we can start explaining and then whip out our big ass photo of all of us on it. That’d be great. We all must find a new arcade to take over now.
NBA Live 2005 has been pushed up from October 12th and now comes out Wednesday, tomorrow if you reserved it. Dammit should have reserved it. And the price has dropped to $39.99 thanks to ESPN’s price of $19.99 for their crapy ass games such as NBA 2k5 which will be that price like the football was. Gameplay wise ESPN games suck ass just like when they were the 2k series on sega. But actual Sportscenter and replays are cool though…that’s about it. Ah well, that’s a plus for EA.
Lio’s right we should all chill up at wizards saturday play the last of games and chill. We all grown up and learned stuff from there. Seen the bad and the good. The young guys look up to us:

I can see everyone’s need for closure here, but the place is going down because people as a whole stopped going there. Commemorating its closing by finally getting around to going there for a purpose is a bit trite.

If anything, it sucks for me more than you, because I’ve got like 3 people’s phone #s, and can’t call 313 most of the time. At least I knew if I wanted to see what was going on I could go drive 20 miles to wizzards and see who was there.
But Lio’s right, I wanna go up there to chill and take some photos, that’ll be cool, cuz I know its like a one in a million chance that I see everybody again since I be on the move so much :tup:
Well yeah, but you’re not gonna do it right in Detroit, I’ll tell you that much. Costs for netline alone will make it prohibitively expensive. There are many lawsuits regarding not laying line to black neighborhoods and commercial zones.
I agree. Like I said, it’ll be awhile until I see a lot of people from this group, unless the crew moves to a new place. And there are a few arcades still around, but they’re waaaay too far apart for the true players from Wizzards to really be together again.
Robotron’s FNG series and Halo is basically all best chance of running into each other after Wizzards is gone. I barely do one, and I don’t play the other.
BTW Deity, money’s a bit tight, but when I get the chance, I’ll try to make that preorder for Predaking. Make that two (One for me). And I have a book to show you.
