Unless some douche is talking out his ass, the King of Pop is dead. Despite all the bad things that have been said about him over the years (whether deserved or not) Michael Jackson was truly a musical icon throughout his career and influenced artists in all musical genres. He forever changed the face of music (no pun intended).
Post up your stories, memories, or experiences involving the KOP.
I remember when my sister and I were much younger, we had a video of Moonwalker. We watched that movie so many damn times. I remember thinking that Joe Pesci’s character (can’t remember his name) was hella cheap for having all those guys and weapons stuff at his disposal, especially those guns that broke through his shield when he was in his robot (moonwalker?) form. I also remember my parents letting us stay up late to watch the Thriller video when it came out. That was dope, staying up until 10 or whenever it was. Then we were all scared that night and couldn’t fall asleep.
EDIT-I have but one request, with Marvel hitting next gen, can there please be a Michael Jackson playlist for Marvel tourneys?
For those of you that know, my ringtone for the past few months has been Thriller, but now that he’s dead, people keep calling me and I keep having to mute my phone cause I don’t wanna think about it. Damn man…
I remember the first time watching thriller and I was so scared, but my dad like forced me to watch it…it terrified the shit outta me…then shortly after the video was done my dad acted like he turned into a zombie, and terrorized me around the house till he finally caught me under the bed and proceeded to “chew” my leg off…at the time it was definately some fucked up shit, but now it’s like one of my funniest memories with my dad.
I remember watching the premier of “black or white” after the simpsons on fox, and was blown away by the face morphing that happened in the video.
I remember watching the special for “remember the time” and that is definately my favorite micheal jackson song from the 90’s
I remember watching the scream video for the first time and was like in awe.
And now I’m in disbelief that he’s gone…People want to be bitches and strike up the alleged molestation charges against him when they first think of the King of Pop…to those that do that you can suck my dick. Don’t act like you didn’t listen to thriller, don’t act like you didn’t listen to BAD, don’t act like you didn’t try to do his spins or try to do the moonwalk. I bet money you still like R. Kelly, but he fucking pissed on a girl and had it videotaped, MJ was found INNOCENT yet people still wanted to judge. It’s just a sad sad day.
Me too! I thought Michael Jackson was REALLY a zombie. Shortly after I watched this music video and almost peed my pants, my other brother forced me to watch Night of the Living Dead.
Dangerous is like one of my favorite fucking albums… Damn this sucks.
I had the chance to go to neverland ranch because i grew up in Santa Ynez california which is where it is, he would let the local schools go like every year or two. Dude had a nice collection of classic arcade cabs
If you think music would have been the way it is today without him, your fucking insane, play your Michael Jackson tracks " i personally have EVERYTHING he has ever don/ ben on " as loud as you can today. Fuck those cant appreciate.
-Being so scared of Thriller that I wouldn’t watch the video, but I loved the song so much that I would stand by the side of the TV so that I could hear the song. My family still makes fun of me about this to this very day.
-Being scared of the Dirty Diana video and the song itself.
-Trying to do the infamous lean move he did in Smooth Criminal and falling on my face lol.
-Laughing at the scene in Black or White when he wrecked the car. In fact I still find it funny.
-When I first saw Moonwalker, I asked my Grandma to buy me the movie and instead she bought me a video tape that had all of Michael’s tv performances and music videos up to Bad.
-I remember how crazy it was when Bad first came on MTV. I remember asking my Grandma why he was lighter than he normally was.
-I used to play out the scene from Can You Remember The Time where he spins and turns into sand. I used to spin and go “WHOOOOOOSH!” to play out the sand part. Raw.
There hasn’t been a celebrity death that has hit me as hard as 2Pac’s death (Aaliyah was a very close second), until today. What makes it so hard is that Michael’s music will always take me back to my childhood. I wanted to be Michael Jackson so bad when I was a kid, honestly who didn’t? Never can say goodbye.
When trying to sing his songs, it was difficult for me to hit the same tones has him. A fast transition from a harsh tone into a mellow one and back again in the same verse is quite the task. Not to mention he has a higher range than me. He’s a super tenor. Amazing singing abilities.
I like the classic, moonwalk, spin, into freeze he did in the Billie Jean performance. When watching him do the robot in the 1995 mtv live performance, I was amazed. I had to try it out in front of the mirror. Unfortunately, I failed.
I love his musical compositions. I was surprised to see he wrote a few hit songs by himself. It’s cool that he also collaborated with other artists like Carlos Santana, Paul McCartney, Eddie Van Halen, etc. He introduced me to a wide variety of music when I was a little kid.
He thinks outside the box which is one of the reasons why he’s an inspiration to me.
I remember watching Moonwalker ALL the time as a kid. And staying up til 2am when I was younger just to watch him perform on some show on TV. And trying to emulate his dance moves during a talent show when I was in first grade. (Didn’t go so well. I’m white. lol)
Hell, i got to name my little brother after him. Seriously.
The media may have attacked the shit out of him during the last two decades, but some people forget all the good he’s done. That at one point he was more than just an icon. He was a hero throughout the world. Back in the day when someone could be looked up to like a god. People forget the good…
The King of Pop will definitley be missed. But its impossible for him to be forgotten.
I remember playing Moonwalker in the arcade, and every time he saw the a child in trouble, he’d yell “YEOWWWWWWWWWWW!!!” And when you insterted a coin, he would go “WOOOOHOOOOOOOO!!!”
And at the end of the game, after he downed the boss, he had nothing else to do so he turned into a jet and flew off.
I made a semi-lengthy post about my thoughts in the giant thread over in GD. He’s a legend. I’m not sad about the pedo-Mike that died, I’m sad about the entertainer that I grew up idolizing and listening to. And just as he was about to make a giant-ass comeback tour. RIP, Jacko.
Playing the Moonwalker game and thinking why the fuck is Michael Jackson a robot?
Like Frank, watching the premiers of Black or White and Remember the Time on Fox. Back when the Simpsons was on Thursday.
Watching the Thriller video a million times on MTV back in the day, when they actually used to show videos and repeat them hella.
Feeling bad for him that his drama became more important than his music to people, and still blasting his shit regardless. My Michael Jackson channel on Pandora is probably the one I listen to the most.
How Jeny (or me too really) never gets tired of hearing Rock With You or anything from Off the Wall.
That’s all off the top of my head, but there’s no denying the man is a legend. While people are gonna be hypocritical for a few weeks, don’t let that tarnish anything and celebrate his life along with the fools that won’t give a shit about him after all this has settled.
He died of a cardiac arrest…and at his age and the fact that he’s african american made it more likely for it to happen…the greatest performer to ever grace the stage is gone, but will never be forgotten.
