Yup saw this myself last Wednesday. The giant one with the MadCatz sticks uses a PS3, while the Tekken 5 cabinet uses a Xbox 360. Last time I checked at least. From my sources, it’ll most likely be available only on their Arcade Mania times, for now.
I just might swing by to check them out. Hopefully its decent compared to the SVGL one.
on the xbox version the second player joystick does not work at all. and on the first player side the stick has trouble moving down back.
not sure how they would charge people to play. but paying 6 bucks for unilimited play seems like a rip off when i can play at home for free.
some buttons on cvs2 not working
CvS2 cabs has always been kinda whack control-wise…
I went there Sunday to check it out and it was off…and looks really ghetto. The only thing cool was the bigscreen. Laaame i wanted to try it out lol.
I will try to reserve judgment until i actually play it though…but so far my expectations are kinda low. But at the same time, if it does fly off, its possible to see some good players using console characters. So hoping for the best but not expecting much.
The setup with the PS3 seemed to be working for the most part when they had me test them out last week. Although the sticks are MadCatz…so who knows how long that’ll last.
The Tekken 5/XBOX360 Cabinet has a few iffy buttons and a non-functional 2P Joystick, so hopefully they’ll get that fixed once this week’s Arcademania comes along.
I’m just happy I can use Sakura now <3.
Was there on Sat.
Trial mode on a Tekken 5 machine was fun for like 10 minutes. That FP on 1p side came out 8/10 times.
And to anyone that may care or care enough to fix it…
CVS2 big screen 2p side’s mk won’t register at all.
Not sure about the h2h cabinet.
3S h2h (the one facing the golf counter) is messed up. Stick got stuck at one point making the character jump in different directions without even touching it.
BB 1p side’s C button doesn’t work sometimes, but it would register 90% of the time with double tap.
I’m keeping my eyes open. Although I still think MGL is trash, and that the SF4 setup will be trash… it’s close to where I live, so I’ll be around once shit is up and running.
Lol that B/C button (depending on the setup) still doesn’t work after I told them about it 3 weeks ago? As expected!
Lol place is pretty whack. Only a couple people knew what they were doing. Tekken Machine with SFIV is broke, CvS2 big screen is broke, and the non HD screen of SFIV thats hella far away from everyone is straining on the eyes. Also someone has to unlock the characters…
Also the SE sticks have a broken jab button already on the right side, with the left sometimes having ALL punch buttons not work…then magically work again. I thought this shit was new?!
Fuck this place.
Wow, sucks to hear that MGL is still going downhill for the cabinets. I’ll still stop by sometime to check out IV and play w/e else. And if they’re going to keep it console based, they should leave us the option of BYOC.
edit: But I really do appreciate that they made the effort to give everyone IV instead of completely ignoring it.
Man, I was going to stop by today too. Good thing I didn’t. They really need to get their act together. I’ll stop by next week to see how things are going then.
Is there a way to file complaint about MGL’s shitty ass arcade cab’s and that the employees aren’t doing shit about it? I mean, they have so much time to maintain/repair the arcade cabs during their downtime hours…especially weekdays with no arcademania, wowzers. Talk about great service
Their management usually doesn’t do anything useful even if you tell them about it. But don’t let that discourage you guys from telling them about needed maintenance, since notifying them is always better than not doing anything at ALL.
Out of the entire MGL staff probably 2 people put in maintenance work regularly but competitive video game arcade cabinet repair has fallen by the wayside in light of the ticket games. It is unfortunate however due to the larger venue size, it is often frequented by Families including small children during the day for Parties and special events. For this reason, alot of equipment is damaged by younger adolescents without parental supervision on a regular basis. While bystanders look in awe and lament “How Cute, they think they can play!” I’m cringing while they mash buttons with violent fervor and twirl joysticks out of place with no remorse.
The Staff is usually fairly complacent, if not ignorant to the fact that some of these parts are fairly sensitive and require regular inspection. In comparison, I feel that SVGL, having a smaller enclosure and less ticket games, would provide constant general maintenance on the only machines that make money inside, the video arcade cabinets. This in turn would provide a more “functional” gaming atmosphere and a positive experience, so I can understand why several regulars would prefer that arcade.
However, these deterrents aside, the Golf Arcade can be fairly decent at times, providing the same games as most other arcades along with a larger area for spectators and those idling while waiting for their turn. This place has potential to do more for its consumers and has proven itself capable in the past. Joe has kept a constant vigil over this place within the last couple years with the help of several others in the community, offering tournaments and gatherings but I honestly believe, if they do not start to take a stronger position on maintenance and repair along with cooperating with local patrons the place may only continue to lose credibility.
I will admit that MGL has a much better arcade block than SVGL. The place is more spacious/comfortable, and there are usually 2 of each games able to run at the same time(like CvS2, 3S, MvC2 and now SFIV). A huge setback for me in SVGL is waiting all the damn time because theres only one cab for their games. Not that its their fault, the place is smaller after all.
I really like this place, honestly, it has the right building structure, spacing, and everything. It used to be really good, and seeing it the way it was when i went was a real disappointment. If they want us to donate on fixing certain parts i would even be down for that. Doesn’t matter if its HAPP or Sanwa…just make it work and come through.
Went today. There were a few maintenance people on hand today to hear what me and a few others that were playing IV had to say about BOTH cabinets, so at least it shows that they are willing to make it playable…they just have to be around for us to tell them, I guess? :X
If anyone does come down to MGL, can you keep this thread up to date about the condition of the sticks/buttons for all the fighting games please? =) i don’t have a car atm, but I would like my trip over there to be worth while as soon as everything starts working in WORKING condition >.<
I’ll probably go check it out next week. It’s on the way home for me. I was really hoping they’d get some cabs. So far, it doesn’t sound all that enticing yet, but perhaps better than nothing.
You can only play SFIV at MGL on WED & THUR during arcade mania… FRI-TUES the cab is non operational since its on console… :xeye: They plan to hold SFIV tournaments during arcade mania, which means you have to pay to get into the arcade as well as pay for tournament entry? Plus all tournaments will be held on WED or THUR only? :lame:
On a good note the cab has USB ports on the bottom near the coin mech slots so you can BYOC (Xbox 360).
