the song Danzig popularized

if anyone can give me serious feedback on a song me and my friend did, i would greatly appreciate it. I’d rather hear more negatives than positives so we can fix it up.

sorry for the poor quality though, it was recorded on a phone

Being honest, it sounds very basic and simple, the rythm the drum works, the guitars, everything sounds uninteresting, i would even say predictable.
The drums sound like a drum exercise, i could even say the same for the guitars.
If this song is going to be instrumental there is a lot of thing that is missing, like a melody for example.

yeah this song has no composition to it, the whole thing is an improv when our 2nd guitarist and bassist ditched the jam session yesterday.

I’d disagree with the drum exercise, the drums are there to support the song and not a drum solo, but i respect your opinion.

Agreed on the melody, a lot of people have told me that already. the critique is immensely appreciated, me* and my guitarist will take notes.

Glad to see more European Metal bands mentioned in this thread!

Amorphis are a pretty good folk metal band, from Finland, and i can suggest a few others in that genre from the same region:
Barren Earth (also Finland) Their first two albums are covered in awesome sauce. They sing in English, for those that care.
Moonsorrow (also Finland) They dont sing in English… at all. This doesnt affect the enjoyment of their music though.
Finsterforst (Germany) Another band which favors their national language, although some amazing sonics make this not a problem.
Skamold (Iceland) like Amorphis, are inspired by thier regions mythology, in Skamold’s case Norse. They sing in Ancient germanic syntax, making thier songs seem that much more powerful.

To comment on some of the other bands you mentioned:

Soilwork (Sweden) are a poor mans In Flames, IMO, but they still have a few decent tracks, like the one in the link. For the most part though, they have really tried hard to copy In Flame’s sound in the past.
Dark Tranquillity (Sweden) F-ing awesome

Id like to recommend a few of my faves from the Melodeth/Melo Doom/ Prog Deth Genres:

Insomnium (sweden) are, without a doubt, my faveorite band in the Melodeth genre.
Ghost Brigade (Finland) are quite versatile, and has an air of grunge around some of thieir tracks.
In Mourning (Sweden) are Prog Deth band, who could be early Opeth on a bad day.

You all can probably tell where my musical preferences lie. Although i do listen to the occasional American or Canadian band (usually when my wife playes them. She has a thing for Disturbed at the moment) but i cant get enough of the Scandinavian sound.

Now just to show that im not totally one dimentional, here are some of my faves from non European countries!

Ne Obliviscaris (Australia) is Prog Metal at its more creative. They make aweome use of a Violin in a lot of their tracks.
Be’Lakor (Australia) Melodeth with an aussie twist.
Mar De Grises (Chile) are a Doom/ Deth metal band, who gave up too soon imo.

My two pence worth

This band has been surprisingly good, They have a good mixture of the raw power that you will expect from a death metal band and melodic elements to it without falling necessarily squaerely into melodic death.

On the subject of spotify, i recomend Persefone and Divine Disorder, both are Progressive Death Metal with orchestral and symphonic elements to them.

Any feedback on Iron Maiden’s Book of Souls and Slayer’s Repentless? I’ve downloaded them but didn’t listened yet.

Omg there’s a metal thread! =D

I listened through the first disc on Spotify yesterday and liked what I heard. Gotta listen through it again to verify, but my first impressions were something like “yeah, cool, there are nothing here I particularly disliked, unlike some of the songs on The Final Frontier*. I can dig it”.

Haven’t heard disc 2 though.

  • actually listening When The Wild Wind Blows now though, lol. Second listen-through of Book of Souls coming up soon.

edit: Listened through again. It’s Iron Maiden playing some good, delicious heavy metal. You know what you’ll get. I liked it.

Not really a fan of Iron Maiden but my god is The Clairvoyant friggin beautiful

Hallowed Be Thy Name is probably one of the greatest songs ever recorded. The live in brazil video’s of it are breathtaking.

anywho:

i lost it at 1:31

Fuck, first time I watched this Ladybaby stuff. I’m speechless.

On the Maiden topic, Hallowed Be Thy Name is fucking awesome and the Flight 666 version of The Clairvoyant was recorded where I live, but when it comes to “live in Brazil” stuff, I really like Fear of the Dark at Rock in Rio:

death metal band from cuba

Speaking of death metal: The Black Dahlia Murder has a full album stream up of their upcoming (until September 18) album, “Abysmal.” Spoiler alert: It’s fucking awesome.

(I couldn’t figure out how to get the link to the Soundcloud playlist. It’s right at the top of this link.)

Sick ass band, they continued to improve just when you think they could not get any better they do. As a bonus they are all good peoples.

Conquer divide is amazing. They are hot as hell.

Fuck the haters, new Disturbed album is the best work they’ve put out since Ten Thousand Fists. INFINITELY better than Indestructible and Asylum.

For “real” metal, I’ve been listening to Lamb of God’s “Still Echoes” on repeat and older Sonic Syndicate stuff. It’s unfortunate SS has splintered apart like they have: The Unguided is only good for the Zardonic Remixes that come out of them, and SS in its current lineup is just depressing with how small the band has become. Other than that I feel like I should check out the more recent Scar Symmetry stuff. I drifted away from them after Alvestam left but I listened to some newer singles and liked what I heard.

These guys are awesome too. MOONSHINE~

I don’t know what is up with this Disturbed hate. I really enjoy listening to them from time to time, but I get tired quickly.

I feel the same way, but it’s a case of “you never forget your first” for me. They were my gateway to rock/metal after my electronica days and through them I learned about what the rest of this wonderful genre has to offer. Ah, the days of Cooler and Lord Slug rocking the hell out of Goku to the strands of “The Game” and “Stupify,” good times good times. That and I think it’s been so long between albums that they sound fresh again now that they’re not churning works out on the assembly line.

For their newest work they brought back some of their older energy and mixed it with the more melodic tone they were trying to go for with the last Asylum: think of a hard rock version of “Love and Other Disasters”-era Sonic Syndicate. To me this is the best they’ve sounded since The Sickness and I’m looking forward to seeing them live for the first time in seven years in the Spring.

There would be a concert of Therion next month, and on january Iron Maiden :rock_on:
