I’ve noticed something going on in the past month or two regarding the Brawl (not necessarily SRK, but the Brawl scene in general): Increasingly large complaints regarding Metaknight. A large portion of it is theory, but it seems that tourney results are skewing more towards it as well: The scene in general believes that MK is too good. He apparently has too many advantageous and only one weakness (lightweight), as of right now, he has no true bad matchups (Snake and DK are gradually becoming more even as time goes by), and he’s winning/placing in the most tourneys by a rather large margin. In theory, the only way to beat a MK main is either to main MK or become extremely good with a different character (as in leagues better than the MK main).
I personally can’t say much about him being too good or not, but this is apparently the popular opinion at the moment. I don’t know for sure if he’s near T4 Jin level yet, but MK is proving (by the scene for the most part) to be above everyone else (one thing to remember: Snake, the #2 character, has counters, a poor air game, and can be gimped, among a few other things).
In general, I’m not promoting banning him or anything. I just want to know SRKs response/opinion to the recent Meta-whoring that the Brawl scene is going through.
Yes…things will always be like this. Things can only get better, and for all we know that could be Meta Knight (:lol:). The only problem I see is that people aren’t giving mid tier characters a chance to shine in tournies because MK rapes them so hard it simply defeats the purpose of even attempting to win with who you like. Then again…you are trying to win. I think a few characters could get much better, but they won’t be given a chance to shine. The good thing is that since all this MK whoring is going on then people are going to know what to expect when they face him; Ironically that may not even matter because…he’s that damn good. Things are already starting to get stagnant, so I’d hope something BIG happens to liven things up. I normally just get up and walk away when my opponent pick MK because it’s just a waste of time ( I always lose anyway )

MK isn’t unbeatable. There are people who will pick MK because he’s so godly and still get messed up by my Kirby because they don’t know the basics of spacing, etc.
MK’s good, but it’s all how the player uses him, and there are tons of players around that don’t play MK that could fuck MK players up.
Look up Forte and Mew2king for some good MetaKnights. MetaKnight matches are extremely fun for me, cause I find it very satisfying whenever I beat one. Also a true funny fact, Italy smashers have banned MetaKnight from competitive playing.
shuttle loop? I barely get tagged by that move anytime I’m playing against MK now cause I’m always looking at that arch over MK…you HAVE too with sonic.
ehh Haven’t had a prob with Sheik and ZSS against MK. too many MK players are too aggressive and you can just bait the shit out of them. Plus so many ppl are maining him its getting silly, and ppl are fearing him which is part of the problem, the biggest prob I have against meta knight is his safe pressure but if you know what move he can do you can punish it, and most MK players are pretty predictable what Im worried about is running into a turtling or defensive MK which I have thankfully not ran into yet.
Don’t let MK spam that shit all over the place…If you let him he’s just gonna bully you around the stage. Gotta let the MK player know you ain’t gonna just drop the soap for him.
The Yoshi/MK matchup is about even (slightly in MK’s favor) but it’s as good as you can hope for, I guess. Chaingrabs and u-smashes work well here but MK can still tear shit up because of Yoshi’s priority issues.
option 3 pick zelda and counter hit his bullshit all day with electric heel baits, MK has a nice hit box for this stuff, aka when you get hit by MK just smack him with a heel, poor MK not having much knockback. plus up smash+fsmash+ ftilt combination= pretty safe against MK.
MK is really good, he’s fun and also a cool character so of course lots of people are going to play him, and thus you’re going to see him placing really high a lot of tournaments. IMO, a Snake in really competent hands that can read the other person well is just as scary, if not more.
IMO if MK were to be banned, Snake would need to be as well. But then it’s like ok…now Falco, Marth and Rob dominate. Of course they’re not nearly as bad but personally I think the game would be more enjoyable if you just banned snake mk and falco. After that, I think most characters could compete pretty well. Falco just destroys some characters so bad they can’t even compete, and the same goes for MK and Snake. MK makes like half the cast unplayable and Snake is just really really really good.
But I mean look at Evo and 3rd Strike. The placing in that was like chun chun chun chun chun chun chun. You don’t see talks of banning her, even though she’s clearly top.
Eddie wins like every other GG major as well. He’s clearly just better than most of the cast, but once again…no bannings. People just gotta learn to deal with the BS.
I’m not the best one to answer this question. LordLocke’s the resident Mario expert. However, I do know that the Mario Tornado (d-air), while easily one of the shittiest moves in the game, befuddlingly SNUFFS the Mach Tornado. Mario’s Sonic Boo-- er, fireballs also force MK to keep on his toes and maintain a defense, rather than go all rushdown. Then there’s the fact that if MK does a B move remotely near a ledge, FLUDD owns him hard.
Damn shame he fails so hard against, well, damn near everyone ELSE, but he’s probably the best counterpick against MK you’ll ever find.
alot of ppl beat tornado and if someone blocks it and you have a fast character you can just punish it, the main problem I have with MK is his power in the air, but as long as ppl stop getting hit by his up B he has problems killing, personally I find his up air, forward air mixup to be the most annoying part of his game. BTW who here has a omg raep MK, I don’t know anyone out of like the 20-30 + smash players I go up against. The feared characters around here are because of the players so I have exp against/with ZSS,Sheik,Pikachu,Olimar,Lucario,Wolf,Dedede,Snake Of course I have exp against others but these are the mains/close alts of the good players.
