Since this has turned into an ideal SNK lineup thread, and I was asked;
My philosophy on this has been to A.) choose games that are competitively sound and B.) be diverse. The definition of competitively sound can vary from player to player, but for me, its a game that shows a high level of polish and enough balance, while requiring little to no banning of characters/techniques.
These are not in any order of importance either. That all boils down to preference.
1.) Traditional KoF game. You’d slot in K0F98, 2k2, or Neowave here. Instead of telling you that 98 is the best of those three by FAR, ill tell you that 98UM is coming and I’d just slot that one in and shut everyone up about it. Eolith era KoF was BAD, people.
2.) New KoF game. KoFXI goes here, even though I dont think it fits my ‘competitively sound’ descriptor. Hopefully KoFXII is better.
3.) 3d KoF game. MIRA goes here. Its actually really good.
4.) SamSho game - Slot in SamSho 5 Special here… WHOOPS! Cant do that. No available home versions. So, we play Tenka instead (which is good, but not as good).
5.) World Heroes Perfect - This is the best game you’ve never played. I realize that I only got into it because I won it at evo and had a whim to see what was really there… and I found one of the most fun and interesting and BALANCED fighting games of all time.
6.) Breaker’s Revenge - Another game that is just FUN to put your hands on, and has no real issues.
7.) Garou - FUN! Balanced!
8.) Real Bout 2 - Another interesting game with a lot of depth.
9.) Wildcard NGBC in, too. Its fun to play, though I feel it has a few issues. Like many, if not all, fighting game series… they rarely get it right the first try. Perhaps NGBC2 will be amazing, yeah?
Fixed.
Not hidden anymore.
I mean, I listed 9 games up there. If I had my pick of 6, like everyone else is doing, id choose:
98 or 98UM
WHP
Breaker’s
Garou
RB2
SamSho5s or Tenka
Lovely variety! Nothing from the same series, even, except the fatal fury games (and those are quite a departure from eachother).
