I’m all about the tournaments FIRST. It deters people from the tournaments just coming to see MMs…

Hence why I aint falling for this shit again…It doesnt matter what you fools say… If we agreed to something like at FRXI of course its gonna get done…but anything else please…

Plus speaking of Marvel I remember EVO World having to push people aside because of the Marvel MMs…I hope and pray Money Matches dont become as hype as that…serious…thats unnecessary drama… :sweat:

Japanese? we’re in America. if you need the Japanese and Mexicans to make the American SNK scene exciting then you’re focusing on the wrong community. The MMs may not matter to you, but the tournaments you’re so focused don’t matter to anyone else either. AH and MB tournaments seem to hold much more significance than your glorified casuals. At this point the MMs are quite the NECESSARY drama. So pretty much you’re satisfied with what your tournaments are(glorified casuals), when you yourself have the ability to make the scene bigger. Scenes don’t get bigger by NOT being proactive. Give Roski all that money you devote to these events, he’d be doing a much better job of promotion/hype.

I respectfully disagree…its not about what matters to people that arent entering…The people that are entering these tournaments have spoken…tournaments take higher precedence over Money Matches.

Plus I have a vote in my thread about Money Matches vs. Tournaments…you all should go vote…right now Tournaments are winning…

Hype has taken a sour note esp pre-NEC8…have you thought of that? It got outta control…everyone knows that too…

Never again to that level…

I have zero interest in “commanding” you. NEC? How did I command you? You guys were using my stick in a bullshit FT10 for a grand total of $0.00 USD. That’s the only thing I controlled.

And you really don’t get the point of leading a scene. Anyone can run a tournament. Your focus should be on promoting and expanding the scene.

ramza and myself run the tournaments around here, drawing players from Delaware to Southern Virginia on a monthly basis… as far as Massachussets (sp?) on occasion. If you were smart, thoughtful, had a plan, etc… you’d want to build relationships across the country instead of pulling all this George Bush bullshit, and acting like a idiot. You’d want to have people running shit in spots so that (gasp) you wouldn’t have to spend thousands flying to every major to run six 8-man tournaments.

This would BUILD THE SCENE.

It’s clear that you have good intentions, but it’s also clear that you have no fucking idea how you should be going about this. The fact that you won’t listen to people with better ideas really doesn’t help.

A POV you all dont see is of the person that came for a tournament he heard was going to be held…but due to Money Matches and other shit didnt happen.

That to me sounds like fucked up priorities…And the guy that said that you know what…

Now ideally I’d love to do both…but time restraints and trying to get the most done at 2 day events prohibit that from happening.

At EVO East and the rest…yes this stuff is no problem because we got three days to do what I need to do…

But NEC, FR?? 2 days is really tough just to focus on Money Matches really…

Like I say it seems we have two divisions here…with a lot of it coming from people that dont really support the scene but comment on what they wanna see…

Who would you take care of?

#1- People that just wanna get their rocks off to a Money Match that may or may not support you in the end and some that say you’re a fanboy and have shitty games, dont really enter your tournaments, dont participate in your discussion threads, etc-

OR

**#2-**The people that come to your thread day in, day out, give you feedback, constructive OR NOT, ATTEND YOUR TOURNAMENTS, enter your games…and help you out…

#2 is my primary concern…#1 comes after #2 has been taken care of. I’m gonna take care of my family FIRST.

Here’s some info:

We (ramza and I) run tournaments on a monthly basis that outnumber the “majors” that you run. We have 5-7 games running all in ONE day, plus any money (or chicken) matches, special events,
etc.

I know what it takes to run a tournament.

I know that two days is more than enough time to run those tiny tournaments that you have to run, with enough time to spare, if you do it right. Judging from what little I know of you, there’s no reason to assume you would do it right, but it’s definitely possible.

As for your attitude regarding who your focus should be… I think you’re all off. It should always be your goal to have a larger turn-out than youhad last time. You do this by appealing to those outside of your little circle. Obviously, you have to provide a positive experience for those that already participate, but that’s the easy part. Park the players in front of a TV with their game of choice running, and the rest kinda takes care of itself. It’s not someting that should be taking up too much of your efforts.

I see you at these tournaments, yelling at the top of your lungs trying to get people to sign up for whatever you’re running… you have to get them to give a fuck first, and that’s what you don’t understand at all.

EDIT- Also, in response to that post your quoted… I was at NEC. I saw you guys running a fucking FT10 in RB2 (who the fuck came out to NEC for that? 4 people, tops…).

Money matches are fine. They help the scene. You just have to manage them properly. If you fail to run actually popular games so that two people can play 19 fucking matches of a game nobody cares about, that’s not the fault of money matches in general; it’s YOUR FUCKING FAULT (bold, so you’ll understand…). YOOOOOOOOOOOUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!

You failed to manage the time you had at NEC properly. It doesn’t mean that tournaments and money matches have to be at odds with one another. It means that you have to plan ahead, and adjust, and act accordingly. You didn’t do this.

You had dumbass games up all weekend, that barely anyone cared about. It’s that simple.

I swear… you really are like the Black, SNK-playing George Bush. You completely fail to see the role that you play in this whole thing. You are leading this scene right now (how?), and the scene is struggling. Meanwhile, Melty, Arcana, and GG all take off. Hmm…

If someone wants to prove they are better than DG just beat him in a tourney. What’s the problem, not good enough to make it that far? Then you probably aren’t better.

The whole point of tourneys is to figure out who is the best. Cancelling tourneys to make way for money matches is the most retarded idea I’ve ever heard. There is a reason that nearly every competition on earth is settled via tournaments instead of random side matches.

If people want a pointless money match organize it on your own time. It’s really sad that so many people don’t even try to be the best. When you place money matches over tournaments the implicit statement is that you know you are a scrub who can’t win a tournament.

It’s ego-gratification and nothing more.

I’ll say it one more time: if you want to show you are better enter the tournament and do better. Not a difficult concept.

MM’s are all pride and ego - what they aren’t is a true test of skill.

The people who think money matches are more important than tourneys must be quite literally retarded.

By the way, the people in this thread who have great ideas for how tournaments should be run? Nobody is stopping you.

The reason people think the SNK scene is disorganized is threads like this?

How about at thread were you organize information about what tournaments are coming up, where they are, what games will be played, maybe how to set up GGPO and Kaillera, etc etc. Instead of this drama that does nothing but turn people off.

We ran NGBC on Saturday…I told the Triad that I wanted to get as many tournaments done as possible…and we all agreed to a solution. NGBC took all damn night :rofl: so we ran that tournament. I didnt see NGBC taking that long so I went to sleep wondering how the hell I was gonna pull of the KOFXI tourament with 47 people, and all those MMs on the same day plus other tournaments…

Sunday while I spent most of the day trying to hunt down KOFXI people for the tournament I decided to run some exhibition matches in RB2, KOFXI, and NGBC to promote…they were fantastic…

And then I played an Exhibition with SieClayton, a Money Match first to 5 in KOFXI with P-Soul…and then a first to 3 in KOFXI with Cajunstrike.

All people kept asking overall the whole two days is “When is IT going down?”

So here we are come FRXI…only two days to take care of all that stuff…I’m glad some of its been taken care of…but people gotta understand I got an agenda and some people really want their tournaments…

So its like some may be happy and you all may…but I gotta deal with the shit that comes from the tournaments not happening…

If everyone runs their tournaments (Like Alex does in NC etc) IT STRENGTHENS THE SCENE…

So I encourage that… Then we can all unite and the scene will be stronger when we do…

Excellent post BTW…repped. There is an exception though…for many small games that may not get tournament play like Waku Waku 7 etc (or get much) Money Matches and exhibitions may be the way to go to get exposure…

I agree with you…they shouldnt be the focus…but I was put in a lose-lose situation so I had to buy my time and take care of some business…now that I have hopefully that means FRXI will be alot easier, less haters and that other shit…and truth is I can see it now…IT IS. So its like I had to take the bullet at NEC8 just so we could make progress down the line…and take the final bullet at FRXI and then this shit is totally OVER and done with. Even though at FRXI it has less hype because of the NEC8 MMs.

The Final Round matches are first to 10s in NGBC and XI for $100 each. I’m fine playing for this amount but if you want something else then that’s fine too. Larry said we’ll be playing on the big screen during registration and don’t have to wait in line, so time isn’t a factor.

I’ll be happy to sidebet anyone who wants to back Geese in these matches. :wgrin:

I still don’t see how the hype at NEC was out of control. People were actually interested in an SNK game. Isn’t that the point?
