Money Matches would help the scene but I aint just putting $300 out there for nothing just because this fool wants to do it…
I’m spending $2000 travelling so $300 aint a high priority to me…if people cant understand that then I got nothing else to say!!!
It all is gonna boil down to if I have the money…I aint making any promises…If I have it I’ll do it…if not too fucking bad I aint no goddamn bank…I’m travelling A LOT…plus I gotta go get something set up in Mexico people forget about that too…So I got other things that must take precedence…I mean what good is saving up for the $300 gonna mean if I dont have the money to GO??? (I havent even bought my FRXI ticket yet mind you people…hm something takes precedence dont it?)
Bare essentials means not travelling as much also though…not promoting the scene… which is what I am budgeting for right now.
Also As Arturo says- I’ve done my fair share of Money Matches anyway…and as 4649 says also tournament results have spoken for themselves.
What more do I have to prove??? If he really wants to MM he will bring it down to something more reasonable…if not then I will ask him to come up with $2300 instead of $300…its only fair since its what I have to come up with to repeat the same as last year.
My #1 priority is having the money to travel/eat/housing…everything else takes a backseat… Like I say if you all dont understand that then dont cry if EVO East/North/South/whatever SNK doesnt happen! I was a tool of the crowd prior to NEC8 I aint doing it again this time…

It’s much better than kaillera but lag free it is NOT. For example, I can’t really do CD counter on reaction, I have to anticipate theyre going to attack me or mash it out a little earlier than usual. So that should give you a idea. Experience can vary
Still, it’s fun, as long as you dont take it too seriously, and if you want to play some new people…just wish there was a mute button…
Not really. MB actually brings in more numbers than most SNK tournies in the US. Just look at the West Coast. Its practically where the scene is and its lots of players. And at EVO World it drew in about 50 entrants. With time and smart campaigning SNK games can get that kind of draw.
Oh, and a majority of the Arcana scene isn’t made of GG and doujin heads. I’d say the community is evenly split in terms of game origins.
But yeah, Arcana blew up thanks to mass hype that I started to build between the NYC and Philly scenes. From there on, everyone chipped in and thanks to the console release more people are playing and giving it a chance.
Actually drama like this can help a community get exposure, I have to use Marvel as the main example. It’s a game where certain character SHOULD be banned, broken, broken and more broken gameplay, but one reason for its popularity is the conflicts within the community. Imagine if there was a big MM in a SNK between Dark Geese and Brandon (Havoc) at FRXI, there’s something people would want to see because of what went down in this thread.
It’s just a thought, a game is only as strong as its community, but getting it exposed does help it grow. Good luck with your community SNK guys:angel:
SNK needs hype. The games are good and share similar strategies and gameplay elements to that of popular Capcom fighters. They just need something to get people wanting to play. Or at least watch instead of playing 3S casuals when the finals of NGBC are going down. Needs something that pulls people away. If at NEC…Mike Tyson’s Punch Out could create so big of a crowd that you’d swear they were playing Marvel…SNK can do it too. We’re talking an 84 year old Nintendo game with a big boxing guy who speaks strangely as the star of the game.
Yeah… seriously… a money match at FRXI would do far more for the SNK scene then schlubbing all your shit around to hold another lame-ass casual session at some other tournament that’s gonna have less people.
True and I’m down for all of that…but I aint down for being a tool of the people when I am trying to make ends meet and travel to as many tournaments as possible bottom line.

DG: what’s the point of you traveling to every little tournament here and there when practically everyone of the SNK tournaments have no draw? Without North Carolina bringing the MMs, you coming to NEC would’ve been completely pointless for people that don’t play SNK. There’s no real competition, its always “cool, i can press buttons in THIS shit”. Even with the SNK tournaments you run, there’s really not much on the line. I don’t see anyone under pressure playing these SNK games, which for spectating makes it worthless to watch. Now, if your goal in coming to these tournaments is just to get casual players to press buttons, that’s fine. But I don’t really see the SNK scene growing with that approach.

Drama sells, that’s why most of those idiotic reality shows do so well (Real World:arazz:) Like DevilJin said inject some HYPE into SNK tournies.
Perfect example of HYPE: The DP/Wong Ruby Heart match. Listen to the crowd, their reactions, excitement over even basic combos, white people saying the “n” word, that is why people want to attend tournies, for that atmosphere. From all the tournies I’ve been where SNK games were included, the only excitement from those games was when a player ripped a fart.
Any drama/beef between SNK players, make it public and settle it public, by a MM with the video posted. Why else would I want to see a SNK video unless it’s some shittalker being put in their place, preferably with crowd noise? That’s the only reason why I watched the DXP SF2:Turbo footage (even though he won), I can normally care less about that game.
Get people watching SNK videos will get them interested into the culture and then the game. I know several people who watched the Clockwork/DP matches just to see what it was about (they couldn’t figure out why someone would risk 3 grand on a game).
PS - When I worked at Tilt I tried getting into SVC:Chaos, but couldn’t stand it. That dildo nosed freak Mr. Karate killed all SNK motivation.
i’m not the biggest fan of marvel but i have to admit the only reason why i watch mvc2 matches is because of the drama, the hype, the rivalries behind it.
like another example for me was when sfa2 and 3 was still being played and noone in the usa could touch Valle, but then the Japanese came and gave us a wake up call, that right there started more hype and more ppl kept watching and playing.
all it needs is more exposure, but ppl like dark geese are working on that so hopefully snk will get some exposure.

also MM in these games would be huge… shit i just do MM in arcana (win or lose) just to bring the hype… and the philly and NYC shit in arcana really did boost up the pop for that game… and melty has a huge ass community in WC (thanks to arly and his site…) … so it’s not immpossible for SNK to do it… the thing is… people NEED TO STOP BULLSHITTING AND GET ON IT ALREADY

Draw is nice once again ramza…but again as I say…running tournaments first is my major concern…draw or no draw…Triad or no Triad…doesnt matter to me really.
