Money matches SECOND
Side tournaments THIRD
margalis: I usually agree with you, but it’s important to understand that nowadays, the attitude of the scene has more or less become “if you don’t bet it, your game ain’t shit”. And having large sums of money on the line gets people yelling and screaming, and draws spectators in to see what the hell’s going on. This is exactly what SNK games need, just as it was exactly what Melty Blood needed before NEC.
Money matches certainly should not usurp the big games, like they did at NEC, but they would be a hell of a lot more productive than another 12-man Breakers Revenge tournament. Hence my suggested order of events.
And Geese, seriously, hype is not a bad thing. Heck, the Evo staff considers it an important factor re: whether to keep a game or not.
But here’s the distinction: It has to be real-life hype. SNK over the years has had more than enough of the Internet variety, and that never goes anywhere and makes the games look like a total joke to outsiders.

Who gives a shit about threads getting closed? Getting out of hand is something on the level of Dark Prince status. Every other hype thread I’ve seen has handled itself pretty well. As long as no one threatens anyone, then its all good. Trashtalking is fun as well.
