Agreed.

KOF 98, MOTW and 3s are pretty much the top 3 2d fighters in a lot of people’s book and they are there for good reason. If you want to rally the SNK community these two games have to be there. Once 98 UM comes out and proves to be as good or better then the original then replace KOF 98 with it… after that you could throw in two more games to push on a national level, providing there is enough interest. You defiantly have to start it off small and push a few and hold off pushing Breakers, Waku Waku 7 and what not. Yes they are fun and cool games, but we are not going to rally the community around games like Waku Waku 7 and Matrimelee…

Let me throw a curve ball at you guys though for scheduling purposes so that those unknowing of the situation dont run their mouths off something they do not know about…

FRXI and NEC8 are two day events…meaning we are gonna be crammed around pretty much only running the major games…

But come EVO East, North, West, World…we got 3 FREAKING DAYS to run SNK tournaments from like 9 AM to 12 PM Midnight. 3 FREAKING DAYS PEOPLE.

That means not only can we get all the “Main SNK Games done” but I can run other tournaments like the NeoWaves, the Waku Waku 7s, the others you all talk about AFTER I’VE RAN THE MAJOR ONES…

Get my drift??? if you got the time to run them and the other games HAVE BEEN RUN…use the time wisely!!

I aint gonna just run the main games AGAIN…Theres other tournaments and footage to get out and my goal besides running the tournaments is to get out as much footage as possible…

EVO North had one of the biggest impacts on SNK USA because even casuals for Sam Sho I etc were received well ONLINE…on youtube etc…still getting comments from it…

Then DG counters with “They’re normal characters!!”, as if that’s a good basis for an argument…

I don’t know XI like that, but if the game continues to be played despite a lack of competitive characters, it’s probably because there is a lot of freedom in the ways in which those few characters can be played (a la Marvel). Character balance doesn’t matter in a competitive environment as much as variability of play-style.

But yeah… the point is that that mentality is kinda scrubby, and that tends to keep players away if the majority of the community (and the de facto leader) exhibit it.

You dont ban default characters period…talk about banning Yun in 3s why dont you? Chun too? Yeah like talking about banning Young Geese in NeoWave…its just something to deal with…

Its not like they are secret characters that are NOT in the arcade version of the game…

If theres an argument thats been used time and time again to ban characters THATS CONSISTENTLY BEEN THE ONE.

Look at Guilty Gear- No EX characters or hidden ones…

And plenty other games follow this example…no Jinpachi in T5DR PS3…

Playable or not because he wasnt playable in the arcade most arent gonna buy that.

Now I’m a little more open to allowing characters until we find something insanely broken that is absurdedly proof they are as powerful as the boss incarnation etc…

But until we find that why complain? Find out how to defeat it.

I get your drift… I have mentioned in past post that there should be 4 majors and a few regional games…

If you have the time, throw out some other random games like Waku waku 7 and Ninja masters… but don’t make them a really big focus on SRK and other websites, cause people are going to think SNK is a joke like many of them currently do… put a bigger emphasis on KOF 98 and MOTW since they are widely considered as great games and less on vids of SNK games that are unlikely to have a large competitive scene anytime soon… it doesn’t mean that they are not good games, it’s just going to be easier to get attention when the focus is on other better games that already have a following…

I think ounce samsho anthology comes out the samsho scene will grow some. Right now its so hard for your average person to play a samsho game(i am lucky enough to have ss1- ss6 for comp). samurai shodown 2 and 4 are extremely popular games in AMERICA. I think when ss6 hits counsouls it will become more popular than any samsho has in america. Most die hard samsho players hate ss6 cause They changed the low defense factor. But overall i think americans will take to ss6 cause its kinda like the cvssnk2 of samsho.

If you got 15 hours a day at evo to do snk events, fu** it do as many games as possible. There really is no piont in going in circles like every one is on this thread. Like i said bottom line is poeple will play the games they like.

My only real prob is i train for garou, i train for samsho ect ect, then i get to evo and there is a possibility you may not be there. At that piont its like i trained all this time, i payed to come and stay in hotel and then there is no snk events at evo. Its just kinda a harsh reality to me.The really messed up part is there is no answer to my prob, its like its there and its gona be there :slight_smile: Any ways i am DIE HARD SNK FAN, not fanboy, i actully only really play snk games. So i just hope it all works out for the best. ANd if fate permits it ill see ya at evo north :slight_smile:

Yeah and thats what I do really…at NEC8 we didnt have time to do it so it didnt happen…they are like only 2 days to get soo much accomplished…

But we have time at EVO East, North, World etc…

We have time to throw these games out without a doubt…And then you get the signup factor…

Another thing people dont know about…

You all can say “Well why didnt this game happen?”

You dont know if you werent there…its like with KOFXI at NEC8…not enough people based off what I was told (47) means it didnt happen…

So if that happens etc I move on to the next game…I am big on managing my time so I dont like to waste it…stuff like this you all need to understand before you jump to conclusions about why “XYZ game wasnt run.”

So then the universal marketing ploy is like this everytime for example

Thats how I am going to market it for now…and really this cant apply to FRXI guys because the schedule by Larry is pretty much set in stone guys…so this has to apply to EVO East…something you all also dont know…

Excellent post…I agree also. Sam Sho WILL have to be thrown into the mix when the Collection hits…then we will have people talking about how great Sam Sho II is as well so thats more discussion…and for EVO East- World its all good because I will have time to run all this!!

I am getting more equipment guys…I have a Laptop now…for instant uploading…I can hook my DVD recorder to the other TV for uploading unless someone can supply another laptop…and see then everything is DONE and ready to go!!!

If someone can bring their laptop and we can have TWO LAPTOPS FOR TWO TVS…I can take care of the rest!!!

I do get the sign up problems this year I’ve changed the Metal slug 1’cc to Slug X because there wasn’t enough people signed up and I’ve replace one non neo tourney with a MvC 2 tourney…

It’s still not the basis for a good argument.

If somebody says a character should be banned, and lays out reasons, then you should come with a counter argument based off of gameplay. Any other response is arbitrary and scrubby.

Simple.

For better or worse, you represent the SNK community. Personally, I think you come off as a scrubby fanboy, and it’s a major reason why I’d think twice before really getting into SNK. I think a lot of you come off as scrubby fanboys based on the conversations you have.

I’m really not trying to be a dick, I’m just trying to give some insight on how you guys are perceived, so hopefully, you can do something to change it (or blow it off, it’s your choice).

Umm… I didn’t mention anything about the game, really.

Reading is fundamental.

I merely spoke on the mentality displayed throughout these posts. It’s scrubby.

I’m also astounded by how wildly you’re able to miss people’s points when they post. It’s incredible, really.

In any event, call me a troll, whatever… The reality is that, especially for this particular topic, my opinion matters more than you guys’. I’m a non-SNK player. I’m the person you should be interested in converting. If you want your scene to grow and become stronger, you should really be worried about what I’m saying.

You all can keep playing amongst yourselves, and that’s fine, but if you want growth, you may want to pay attention to what I’m actually saying, instead of being reactionary and defensive.

Havoc, sure DG might come off as a scrubby fanboy, and I do see where you and the Capcom community are coming from on that. That’s why I always stay defending this guy, becaues he does have good intentions. “Scrubby” to us is just really his own hype talking for himself…hehe. I don’t think Lukas is a scrub at all, he’s just very…overzealous. :slight_smile:

Besides, things were a lot worse back in the day on SRK, with K4 (not really so much The Answer, he was a cool guy) coming on SRK and calling us all scrubs at SNK, yet never doing anything to help the community or traveling to any events outside California, for those that remember that. That was yet another reason why SNK got bashed on SRK hardbody for many years - dude got banned like 2983098218301 times too.

The good thing is, people are finally opening up their eyes and seeing what SNK is all about and everything, and I’m happy for that. Even though SNK games are my secondary shit, I’ve been saying that a lot of the SNK games are good on this site for years, only to fall on deaf ears for the most part. Good to see perceptions are changing.

But yeah, I think someone else said it - this year could possibly be better than ever for SNK, since we don’t know when STHD is coming out and kof98um is about to hit, So, we’ll see.

BTW, on GGPO, KOF98 is outplaying EVERY OTHER game on the service by a 3:1 margin right now…so much that the server has gone down multiple times, Ponder is rewriting everything, etc. It definetely should be a eye opener for the SF community and SRK at large, as to how HYPE SNK is in other parts of the world besides the USA. Today, the majority of users (over 125 people, wtf!) were from Taiwan, Singapore, China, Japan, with some straglers in Europe…so yeah…

And Josh, excellent writeup as to why SNK didn’t take off in the USA. My perception of why it died might be a litle biased since I grew up in a city with a large ethnic population, and to put it quite frankly, shit never truly died out here like the rest of the USA…
