The 98UM scene can build around 98…because bottom line is whatever skills you have in 98 will make transfer into UM easier…
Meaning GGPO etc and other stuff only helps 98UM…

Yea the point with rebout is it’s hard to buy. There’s like four copies on ebay that are all really expensive. I haven’t played 98 in forever but I’m going to check out ggpo soon (getting a ps2/usb converter!). So 98UM is a definite in whenever it comes out, but what else? We need another KOF.
You got KOFXI out now for sure.and for those that want that 3d KOF you got MIRA which is getting MIRA2…then you got KOFXII coming out but it wont hit the states on console for while… You also got NGBC out now to play…
IMO the best games to build SNK around would be KoF 98 (because capcom fans cant point out anything bad about it, it really is all around one of the great fighters of all time…even though I suck at it lol) and Garou: Mark of the Wolves (same reason as above).
The main thing to realize here is that there really isn’t a real SNK scene, capcom has most everyone who wants to play fighting games competitively. I mean I played SNK games on kaillera all the time in middle/high school with my friends and we never did tourneys or anything, but when I went to college, everyone played SSBM, Tekken, or SF. Everyone always told me about dark geese and how I play all the games he does, but of a school of who knows how many people there is 1 snk player and 1 who used to play SNK games…and that was it.
If you can prove to the guys who grew up on SF that SNK can make great games that are a lot of fun and can get really in depth without any really simple infinites then I think this is where you will really get a community that EVO will recognize and hopefully hold something for.
of course the downside to both of these games is they are very old…but for me and for others I’m sure, gameplay always takes precedence over graphics.
DG, I haven’t played XI in a tourney but I’ve seen alot of match vids and was wondering… does everyone really only use K/G/O? Because it seems that would take alot of the challenge and fun out of it and not make it that great of a competitive game.

No they dont…but pretty much everyone uses Gato and Kula in some form…
Kula and Gato are like Big in NGBC…
I dont use KGO for tournaments… I use Kula-Gato-Duo Lon(L) for tournaments…
I still find ways around it…I think the more you see these characters played the easier it is to defeat them…thus a prototype Kula-Gato-Oswald isnt gonna give me probs cookie cutter style…they are gonna have to bring something new to the table…
Mago uses KGO…Guero uses KGO, Kindevu uses KGO…those were the only KGO players at EVO World…
I think you just completely misunderstood Blake’s post.
He’s not advocating everyone following the Triad into playing KOF XI or NGBC ONLY.
He’s saying that like most SNK fans, despite having a general interest in multiple SNK games they only really focus on 1-2 games at a time. In their case, it would be XI and NGBC. For someone else, it could be Garou and KOF 98.
Thus, MOST people only have the time to get truly good at only a few games at a time. I, myself, can only focus on KOF XI and NGBC out of the SNK library at the moment.
As much as I would like to sit down and truly learn Fatal Fury Special, Garou, Real Bout 2, KOF 98, KOF 2000, WHP, KOF MIRA, Last Blade, SSVSpecial, Tenka I don’t have the time to learn any more games at the moment. Each one of those games are relatively deep enough to play in tournaments and thus take extensive time to master.
Sure, I would enter a side tournament for any and all of those games if I had the money…but I wouldn’t really be challenging anybody and getting better.
I’ve never seen anybody use just KGO in a tournament here in America. Usually they have 1 or 2 of the God Tier characters, but I never see all 3.
I think that this is because the 3 best characters in the game don’t neccessarily make the best team, or even the best team for YOU.
Again, people underestimate the value of team formation so much in this game. People think they should just stack their team with the best characters and they’ll automatically win.
Like in Marvel, why do you see anything besides Storm/Sent/Mag or Storm/Sent/Cable? For a lot of players, swapping out Sent for Psylocke AAA or Storm for CapCom AAA is much more suitable for their play-style.

Yea that’s what I was wondering, “in some form”. It seems though that K/G on a team makes it almost unstoppable. I’ve personally got a good matchup against them with Robert… but I haven’t seen any match vids with him or any of the other NGBC characters… hell, I think they might have been added to take on those two giants.
K/G/someother character seems boring and what everyone uses because it just walks all over the other fighters. Just throwing this out there… would it be bad to ban Kula and Gato being on the same team?
Not gonna happen because they are default characters…and trust me they are not unstoppable…
it all depends on how the person plays Kula and Gato. most Kulas and Gatos I dont have problems with…

I’m not talking about banning them, but just banning them being on the same team together. I’m just throwing the idea out there though. Either way, I want the NGBC characters allowed if XI is in.
But see if we are gonna ban them on the same team then we should ban Kim-Big on the same team in NGBC…I dont know how many are gonna take that though see…
At this point it kinda delves back into Joshs main point about pretty much putting up with it…
