WTF LUKUS??! A HOUSE IN MEXICO?!!?
…
Damn straight…highly likely in Monterrey…
Overworld is right and this is my formula…Even if there is like one Waku Waku 7 tournament the whole SNK season…there will be PLENTY CASUALS…
Casuals even get the game out there…it doesnt have to be tornament footage…tournament footage is the #1 goal.but if that can’t happen casuals STILL build the scene…build it more an dmake more wanna play IN TOURNAMENTS.
monterrey’s a nice place from what i hear…my exgf’s from around there…
you’d like it there…to live, that is.
Yeah see then i can play Taekua ALL the time…and go to Juarez when I want to…and go anywhere in Mexico when I want toand with my passport come back to the US when I want to…
(which wont be a lot then)
You got the wrong game son.
any ETA on this happening? or is this a long-term goal? cuz’ those guys aren’t getting any younger, neither!
and are you going to be a landlord or something?
We are looking at doing this within the next 1-2 years…
Seriously lookin at this…
I may be a landlord…
I know they aint getting any younger at all but Taekuas rich!!
I just ordered a converter. I might as well get in WHP since it seems everyone thinks its so balanced. I’ll get with you over pm in a few days.
edit: wtf? Scaredy cats?
OK then, a few things…
Japanese tournament results are NOT as consistent as in the US, and single-elim & team formats are why. Sure, it’s not enough for Johnny Doughnuts to win…but it DOES allow RX to beat Nitto, and Izu & Shiroitachi to become SBO champions. Not that it would ever happen, but I would bet good money that in an American tourney format, Nitto would place above RX 90% of the time…
This is also why you see low tier placing high sometimes in Japan. People like to use this to claim that their game is balanced, when actually it’s the randomness of the format.
Thing is, Japan has tons of tournaments, every week, so you have a large body of results and thus can still determine skill. But American results are at least as accurate, and with a much smaller sample size - that speaks to the beauty of double-elimination.
And yes, I absolutely WOULD run a first to 50 if time permitted! Mathematically speaking, the more the merrier. =)
Now, about GG community: I was WAY into it during XX/#r days, and even lived with Kenji for a while back then. I phrased it poorly, probably, but if you honestly think single-elimination is good, it HAS to be because Japan uses it and you think that makes them better. There is no other reason I can think of that would even sound appealing. That’s what I was referring to by the fanboy bit, not watching Haruhi or whatever.
Thanks again,
Josh.
I might be moving very near that area in the next couple of months, so bring it:wink: ill get in on the comp around monterrey:wink:
Whip owns in 2k2 dont hate.
edit nm you were talking about world heroes
O_o wtf
well then again i’m sure rasputin prolly rapes him free
also lol @ scaredy cats
Actually, brockens fight vs rasputin is pretty even or even in his favor. brockens real trouble matchups are vs the fast jumpers (hanzou, fuuma, dragon, mudman). I dont think he is a lost cause at all… but if you main anyone other than hanzou, id probably sggest learning a backup to cover your weak matchups when you get counterpicked.
well i also kinda like Shura and C.Kidd but i’m not sure which one i’m more comfortable with yet or which one has better matchups against jumpers n_n;
cause you cant say pussies in a thread title, man i love srk. Bunch of poopy heads
Im still confused then cause every WHP vid i saw the supers did NO damage. Specially MP’s super.
Are You Talking About Muscles Ex Command Grab Or His Super Command Grab? Ex Grab Does Like 30 Percent… While Super Does Like 50 And Ex Super Does Way Way Too Much.
Yeah, a lot of the moves with a super flash are actually EX’s, as they use the full bar. Their damage varies greatly, and a lot of them are used mainly because they’re invincible and safe. The actual supers do crazy damage!
And re: number of games…
Right now, Capcom has 4 “main” tournament games, and would have more if they actually released anything new, so I don’t see why SNK can’t handle a similar number.
But 7 is probably a bit much, which leads to some hard decisions. As unpopular as this is going to be, I think Breakers Revenge is the most expendable of our current stable. Why?
It gets numbers, but only because SF players like to fuck around with it and it’s about the easiest fighting game EVER to play decently. It doesn’t offer the depth of any of the other games we’ve discussed, and it’s not something that people are going to take seriously as their main game. It’s also a bit redundant, given that we have Garou and WHP as much better Capcom-esque games.
I also think the Samurai Shodown series could be dropped, as much as it pains me to say that. Tenka is just not going to get any steam until it comes out in the US (it IS, right?), and even then there is no guarantee. And 5 Special has a number of strong online players, but they’re extremely spread out across the US/Canada/Europe, and there’s nothing offline to speak of.
So, where to go from there? 98 is the surest thing, especially now with GGPO. NGBC has to stay in until there’s a sequel or people get sick of it. Nothing else really jumps out honestly…even XI didn’t get a tournament at NEC. XII is going to come out, but will it be any good? A number of these games are still developing scenes, so it may be too early to tell honestly.
I’m liking 5-6 games myself, but would be interested to hear further thoughts!
Thanks,
Josh.
So, margalis, since you asked about which SNK/Neo games to focus on, I would say 98 is definitely the easy choice if you like it! NGBC is always run, XI is almost always run…but XI will almost certainly be dropped unless XII really sucks, and NGBC may not last either. WHP is becoming a staple, and Breakers is usually run though I already stated the issues with that. RB2 seems to be getting more online play than Garou these days, actually.
You have to remember, nobody seriously tried to organize all of this before Dark Geese started last year, so this is a bit of a growing-pains/transition period. So, to sum it up, 98 is the safest pick, NGBC is safe right now, and the rest is up in the air.

For me it would be these and why:
NGBC: Fairly strong and growing player base. Triad/Geese showdowns. Good character selection and good yet non kof gameplay. Has a US console release.
Garou: Practically every character is usable. Great animation and presentation. Easy to get into and very deep gameplay at high levels. Lots of people play it and there are many good players at it.
KOF98: Claimed to be the best KOF game made. Player base is growing in the US thanks to GGPO. 98UM will be released on PS2 soon (import only). Very strong gameplay with one of the best casts of characters.
KOFXI: (Or until KOFXII) The most combo friendly and user friendly KOF game. The “MvC of KOF”. Decent player base thanks to the US release. Matches are fast paced and exciting.
That would be my main 4 with these others as possibles:
Real Bout Fatal Fury 2: Colorful and well animated graphics. Hit sound effected that make you say “ow that hurt”. Great cast with many SNK classic characters. Fairly easy to get into thanks to chain combos. A very very underappreciated game.
WHP: Although ugly compared to other SNK titles it has its charm. Some fairly unique and crazy characters. Surprisingly good and balanced gameplay.
Last Blade 2: Game breaking glitches/infinites can be banned/limited fairly easily. CvS2 style linking and combos in power mode and easy chain combos in speed mode therefor suits two peoples styles of play. Beautiful sprites and backgrounds.
KOF 2k2 or Neowave: Similar in a way. Good casts and traditional style KOF gameplay.
