This. I see some 09’ers cause a fuss because they made an “honest mistake (for posting a duplicate thread) and are getting hated on by elitist senior members”. There are plenty of other online forums that will rage just as hard for the same reason.
For example, I frequent a tricking (think freestyle gymnastics/martial arts) forum. Asking questions there is all well and good, and is encouraged in the community. However, new members will, without fail, post threads of how to get over the fear of doing a backflip, to the point where there are about 300+ threads on the same subject (never mind that there is an article on the homepage of the site addressing this very subject). Seeing some many fear threads gets irritating to the point where anyone who graces the thread will either flame, hate, or troll the hell out the OP.
So with that in mind, the SRK community is not elitist. Longtime members of the site are just fed up with the ridiculous lack of common sense regarding online forums.
The '09er rep is pretty bad…I’ve resorted to putting the name of my 06 account in my sig, such a bad idea of mine to make a new account instead of using the old 1 to start chattin with these hot babes online.
It’s the same in pretty much most boards regarding a game series when a new game comes out. A shitload of noobs storm in, does stupid stuff, and most likely will never be seen again.
With games becoming more and more popular, this has been a development that grew especially over the last decade.
Though I think that people should try not look at the join date as much as on the content of the posting. It’s easy to prejudge because someone has joined only recently, but who knows, maybe that person has lurked for a while and decided to sign up now (like that Onishiba guy for instance, dude lurked since SFIV was announced).
Of course, noobs tend to do more uneducated crap, but hey, I’ve seen '07er and '08er post shit, too. And I’ve seen so many miraculous transformations from noob-caterpillar into great-user-butterfly that I don’t even care anymore to look at something like join dates.
Yes and then you have the 09ers who buy prem and think that it’s some kind of flame proof, retard invisibility shield that allows them to make spam posts and spam threads. Having a green bar an a huge avatar doesn’t mean shit. You will still be called out on your bullshit whether you have premium or not.
But look, I do think that my posting up there was relevant. You didn’t read it, though, and just jumped at the silly posting someone else made right below it.
oh what are we going to do about the new members when ssf4 comes out it will be painful just as February was… the horrors of the first few days on SRK after SF4’s release
lol, I actually kinda had the Eternal September in mind.
Seriously, back in the 90s, only a few people had access to internet, mainly IT people, nerds and students. Those people knew stuff and almost everyone argued at a certain level. Nowadays, internet is accessible to pretty much everyone and their grandma, so having stupid people rush in is uninviteable. Also, trolls have come around to be very popular, so you have a lot of stupid shit going on and people trolling the hell out of your average forum.
And about SSFIV - I have my doubts that the rushdown will be as big as SFIV’s, simply because SSFIV is just an “updated version”, and I doubt that many scrubs will get that if they already have the original version.
I’m not saying I’m a senior member or anything (im not) but just think about starting a new thread when theres one already up.
Its annoying looking through pages on top of pages of stuff. But opening another thread? That’s like writing in a book, not finishing it, then starting a new book on the same stuff.
The most logical reasoning is let’s try to keep SRK organized it will be a lot easier to find what you’re looking for.
Read the stickies on searching. (hint : google is your friend).
In no way is this targeted toward an individual, I’m just sort of venting.
^ Wow where’d you find that big pic of Decapre from man? Very nice. I’ve always been intrigued by her… kind of wish Capcom would add her to a future game or at least add some more info about her.
