Message to new members who feel unwelcome, please read! [Repost from SF4 Forum]

That’s what I’m doing.

I’m adding a lot of information to my thread that explains everything that new members should know, including about how to post, when and where. It’s incomplete but still has a ton of useful information:
http://forums.shoryuken.com/showthread.php?t=167530

This is a forum just like any other, there are cliques and groups and all that on all forums. It’s America, I can say what I want. Also it’s a public forum and if people want to get attitudes about my knowledge base then they need to check themselves IT’S NOT THAT SERIOUS. With that said I think this is a good site and I will continue to use it and post when I feel a need to comment. Be Well John Spartan!

You have to understand that when there are suddenly hundreds of other people that can say what they want and have the same limited knowledge base, it can get relatively chaotic. It’s why I’m keeping quiet till I actually know anything substantial. :coffee:

This is the only year i’ve seen senior members act this way towards new members, for obvious reasons ofcourse. It kinda makes the 09 crowd look dumber than the people who were new to srk years ago.

Problem is, people take it that serious. Just lurk more often, use the search function, it works wonders I tell you. I generally don’t make new threads, I tend to search before I make a new thread.

Your analogy was spot on.

I’ve always said 2009 members (and players) are like high school freshmen. They don’t know anything, and they are desperately trying to fit in at times. I tried to be nice at first but the dick riding in the scene is getting out of control (in socal).

But some of the freshmen do integrate well by laying low and learning the unspoken rules before making threads

In my instance, I didn’t jump straight into the Ryu forum and made threads complaining how hard it is to do FADC with a stick. When peoples first impression of a new user is a thread complaining and bitching about basic game mechanics that are already covered a dozen times, they usually mark that user as a jerk and “n00000b” forever.

I went in here having read David Sirlin’s “Play to Win” book, and also played in arcades when they were still around, and so could give some sound advice to people who wanna up their game. But I stuck to replying in existing threads, and gradually won some respect from old users I suppose, since the rep meter slowly trickled upwards.

If you go into this expecting to “speak your mind” and “I can type what I want this is teh internets/USA!!!”, then blame everyone else when they complain about your behavior, instead of adjusting and adapting and keep on bitching, you’re doomed from the start.

You don’t go into a random pub in deep Texas and start fighting with everyone that wants to send more soldiers to war, yell “It’s a free country I can say what i want!” and expect to NOT get a sound beating.

Adapt, that’s what we humans are best at.

The problem is you get attacked no matter what opinion you give. You can be as respectful to others as much as possible, but the overwhelming number of assholes come out of the woodwork and attack you. This place is worse than 4Chan. That is the goddamn truth.

I didn’t get attacked from every angle. I didn’t even get any negrep in the start. It’s your attitude that’s the problem then. Not everyone elses.

Oh, and if you’re mad enough to post at 4chan (or 2chan) with a nickname instead of anonymous, you deserve the flak you get.

Stop whining about how terrible this forum is and stop posting and just read it instead. It’s your own fault.

The philosophy behind a place like 4chan is encouraging people to post anonymously, because that way you get the focus away from the people, and onto the posts instead.

It’s strange how “your srk” and “my srk” are totally opposite things. A golden rule about internet forums is to not let negative critique get to you. Just log off and do something different until you cool off. Don’t start lashing out left and right. You’ll just look bad yourself.

Not sure what srk you’ve been on. shrug

I agree with the last post, what srk are u on? But in the long run its not just forums, its life in general. U will have assholes all around u. Simply just don’t let it get 2 u. I read plenty of stupid shit on here, then make a joke abt it and I usually don’t go back 2 that thread for like a week (rarely on here). That’s my way of giving back 2 the community.

yes i agree… people are meanies in real life too

but online you can just get premium and build your green rep that way.

Oh jeez…

Who negged me?

I’ll just get premium and hide it.

do it

welp maybe i will, you big fat mean face:hitit:

I negged you.

Negger. You monkey negger.

Funny how you claim you’re from 01 from the other thread and yet you continue to rant and rant and rant.
Coming from Lynchburg, I assume you have a problem with the black community. Shame on you.

Why you. I’ll get you for that. :annoy:

Where is a mod? I’ll tell on you.
