Message to new members who feel unwelcome, please read! [Repost from SF4 Forum]

That means absolutely nothing here. We actually care about the quality of yours posts. We don’t care how long you’ve been playing fighters because anyone can say that.

Even so, having played Street Fighter when Super came out doesn’t necessarily make you a part of this community…a lot of people played Street Fighter back then (I only 5 years old at the time, but I still asked to go to the arcade to mash on that game every weekend). This is the competitive scene, (SRK and whatnot), and you’re still new here, and typically you’ll be treated as such. Like Stuart said, we care about the quality of your posts, not some date where you started playing Street Fighter.

The “2009” insults happen because the year that has spawned the most idiotic posters has been this year. You do the math.

Jay Cutler hates you too. Go Bears. Your head coach sucks. Rabble rabble rabble. :blah: (Revenge for my bad rep.)

Lol. Just playing.

I agree with the overall idea of you post, but perhaps its a bit misplaced…
I think he is mentioning his lengthy SF history to refute the notion that he is a “newbie scrub”, (he may have been called a newbie scrub for a good reason, but his assumption that it is based on his SRK sign up date is highly probable, based on what i have seen posted). I highly doubt he is attempting to garner “SRK street cred” by mentioning his SF history, rather he is saying “Im not a newbie, and it is kinda awkward being called a newbie because I have been playing since SSF2.”

I’m no genius but that my take…

Neg Rep, your joking, Right? LOL at Neg Rep… I stand by what I said in this post, Neg rep is uncalled for.
I barely understand the comment left…

“Comments on this Post:
Hai. kthxltr. I has play ST since 93.”

I understand that argument. But anyone can say “I’ve been playing fights for blah, blah” or "I’ve been lurking since blahblah"
It doesn’t mean shit unless you prove it.

Well unfortunately I don’t have any recordings of me at the arcade when i was 10 years old. I do remember going to the supermarket with my grandma and buying a GamePro magazine that had SSF2 on the front, before the game came out, and the first time I ever saw Cammy…lol she became my favorite video game character ever since.

You missed the entire point of my post, but okay. I meant you have to prove your knowledge in the game(s) you play by actually contributing or not acting like a total retard.

Not to mention posting shit like this:

This isn’t a way to get on some ones good side. Labeling an entire community after being here for only a few months is a dumb thing to do.

We get tired of people wasting bandwith for questions that take 5 seconds to fucking google or wiki. So yeah, we’re going to be snide and be dicks about it. And no other forum is any different.

And lastly, out of all the forums I have been on for different hobbies (card games, other fighting game forums, heroclix and rpg talk) once you get past the hazing and actually prove you aren’t a total socially inept fucktard SRK is actually one of the most organized, nicest, funnest and legit websites out there. I don’t go to any other forums now because my stay on SRK has been beyond incredible and every other forum I go to just doesn’t measure up. . I have met so many good people through this site.

But if you expect to come in here guns a blazing and just expect to be welcomed with open arms and treated like an equal you might as well leave now.

Yes, because I can only take so many sarcastic remarks or flat-out rude attitudes before it starts to really piss me off. There is absolutely no need for some of the remarks on here or the hatefulness. We’re all here sharing a common interest, and of course there will be disagreements and what not, but for people to be absolutely rude to someone for no reason whatsoever is completely unnecessary. So someone made a thread or a post that you may have was silly or not needed. Is there no way of going about telling them other than being a complete jerk? I guarantee you that you will get your message across that they should check the wiki or search through previous forums much better if you just say “hey next time just search the wiki or older posts for a question like that” instead of telling them to jump off a bridge or kill themselves. Just a thought.

I’m sorry, but after reading so many of these rude comments, I feel that something needs to be said. I didn’t come in here “guns a blazing” to begin with, but within the past 3 months, noticing these patterns, it just begins to piss you off and really almost ruins the whole SRK experience period.

What Stuart says is right. It’s annoying to see the same posts over and over again, cuz new members don’t know how to search. The key thing is quality post and patience. I’ve been on here for over 9 years already and half of my posts are automated via infractions. I lurk way more than I post. You can say that you’ve been playing for “x” amount of years and it doesn’t mean shit. Prove it with how you posts. There are some 09 members here who are proving themselves, but there are very few of them

Remember, learn to use the search function. It’s really not that hard to use, so please, save yourselves from further embarassment and SEARCH.

Listen yo… just because you have the same type of intrest with a group doesnt mean the group won’t stop acting like humans. Humans are petty, mean, and uncaring sometimes. The veterans here arent going to change. A noob will become a veteran and blah blah :blah: . Such is life… If you continue to make friends and have helpful post , or at least what others consider helpful, then you will become respected soon enough. To get rid of your bad rep you should subscribe to this site and build your rep that way, or disable it your rep(only subscribers can do that).

Agreed. Which is one thing that I’ve learned from being here, the importance of searching through the threads before creating one of your own. But proper “posting etiquette” is something that I feel is something you learn the more time you spend on this site. You can’t expect everyone to be perfect just as soon as they sign up and never make any newbie-mistakes on here. As I said before, I’ve been playing SF for years, true. But I’m new to SRK and forums in general completely.

All I’m saying is for the amount of energy it takes to insult someone on here, especially someone new to SRK, you could just as easily politely point them in the right direction and give them the knowledge they need to not make the same mistake next time.

One thing you need to learn…is that there will always be assholes on internet forums. If you let them get to you…then you look worse off than you started.

Don’t expect everyone to be polite to you because you are new…and don’t expect everyone to help you in the drop of the “enter” button.

They have been. For 9 years. I think SRK is in the means of being irritated with it by now.
we aren’t here to hold your hand.

If anything, SRK looks like a Mormon potluck compared to when I joined.

We just don’t do nice here…period.

They learn better with insults
scrub :smokin:

think of the flames as a way to filter out the non-hardcore people.

Hmmm… here’s an opinion from an '09er that thinks SRK is fucking great. Maybe this will help other noobs…

  1. Search, search, and search again before asking questions. There’s even a Wiki on the main page!

  2. When it comes to anything Fighting Game Related, keep in mind that there are people on here who have forgotten more about fighting games than you will ever know. Post accordingly.

  3. Avoid any and all discussions about Smash. I’m not kidding.

  4. If you think you’re awesome at “x” game, you probably aren’t, and you will be exposed VERY quickly.

  5. People are going to disagree with you. Deal with it. If you feel a stinging sensation in your rectum, don’t post about it.

  6. Carefully reconsider any sudden urges to create a new thread. At the very least make sure a similar one doesn’t already exist.

  7. Never complain about Negative reputation points. You are only begging for more when you do that.

  8. Don’t be an asshole, even if you think that older members are being jerks to you. If they are, then there’s a good chance that you either broke a rule, or you’re being a douche.

  9. Read the Rules. They are stickied for a reason.

  10. If you’re used to posting on Gamefaqs and have a difficult time with punctuation/grammar/making any fucking sense, you should probably just lurk.

I could probably keep going, but that’s a decent framework to get started on. Hopefully that’ll help some fellow '09ers blend in a bit…

I just find it interesting with the threads made by 09’ers, it’d make one think that search engines (like google) don’t exist. Or common sense. Or reading rules and stickies before posting on a internet forum.

There’s a obvious, hard-to-miss stickie at the top of FGD that says do NOT post MvC2 threads in this forum and people just conviently miss it. And we haven’t even delved into how asinine the thread subjects themselves are.

And then they call themselves frustrated when they get flamed…that blows my mind.

Let’s keep it nice and clean guys, thanks

Im suddenly reminded of the scene in “300” were Leonidas is about to go meet with the Persian King and he is like “There’s no reason we cant be civil”

This has to be one of the best threads I’ve ever seen…

But at the same time the need for this thread makes me feel warm inside because it means that, even in a small way, our community is growing.
