Message to new members who feel unwelcome, please read! [Repost from SF4 Forum]

this is great, I know im not brand new but i mean i was a member of fighters.net, and i actually posted vid on combovideos.com. now if you search for those sites you wont find them, but they used to be great fighting game sites. I think it just comes down to having something to contribute. If you are new, it sux but, hoping in on a thread and saying, I LOVE SF4, BEST GAME EVER MADE … at that point you should pretty much expect that your credibility is shot at that point. considering no veteran will say their favorite game just came out a few months ago… that being said
contribute something useful like a thread on modding a joystick that people have trouble with, or helpful strategy. anything. as long as you do your search and make sure your not saying something that has already been created people will appreciate it and thank you.
When i first joined I got in because it was my first big tournament and everyone had great custom sticks, so i shelled out a few bucks and made a custom HFS2. after modding it i put up a little guide and people reacted. it worked for me and i felt welcome afterthat

Hey guys. I was playing Street Fighter IV the other day. How do you do that Hadoken move?

Just kidding! :wgrin:

Long time lurker. First time poster. I agree 100% with the OP. If you are having an issue with a certain game, there are always videos and other FAQs in youtube/GameFAQs/whatever.

That said, I’m glad that I have been blessed with gaming the day I was born. I remember playing Street Fighter II when I was 5. Have spending countless hours on it from the original to all the bootlegs. I remember getting into a fight with a guy who changed my character in the rainbow edition and still getting his ass kicked

Later, when the consoles started getting ports, I owned Fatal Fury, Fatal Fury 2, SSF2 and Art of Fighting for my Genesis.

Got introduced to King of Fighters for it had FF and AoF characters. KOF is my all-time favorite fighting-game out there (KOF 97’ being my favorite for I have spend the most money on it. There was this guy who I could NEVER beat. It’s not that he was good, it’s just that I sucked and he knew his moves. :P)

Where am I getting with this post? I guess the fact that I played these games in arcades located in slums where there were no special moves pasted over the marquee or where the buttons would be shit or where the stick would give me massive blisters. I didn’t complain as I learned the moves and tactics either on my own via trial and error or via learning it from other players.

Nowadays when my friends come over and play SF at my place, I am baffled at the fact that they don’t know how to pull of hadouken. I don’t blame them (and I just start up Tekken when they are losing badly and tell them to play with Eddy Gordo and keep on pressing the kick buttons ).

Oh and MarkMan, I think I’ve told you this before so I’ll tell you again: I envy you and your collection

This is a good Thread, I’ve been viewing these forums for quite some time now and finally decided to make an account yesterday. Thanks!

Been reading up on some stuff on this site for a few months now. I decided to actually sign up, and go premium because I find it to be a great site for tips and info, plus I wanted to give a little donation in exchange. Got some neg reps for my efforts, but you know what it’s cool none of that matters…

Best advice for the new guys like myself is ignore the hatred because it’s just their way to filtering out the bad guys… Stick with it just like anything else, do what it is that you came here to do. Ask questions, and get info to better your game.

Shrug. I feel welcome.

In fact, the only times I’ve ever felt unwelcomed were when other 09ers were being douchbags.

I’m not sure what that says, really.

It probably helps that I openly acknowlege that I’m nowhere near as good as the senior members here… But I’m shooting for being as good as them, and… yes… that IS why I’m here at all. I thought that was the purpose of this site. To try and get as good as the pros, to become a part of the community.

lol I already have bad rep from posting my opinion on a topic, most likely because I’m an 09er.

lol embrace the RED i got some more negative rep. and the comment was “STFU DUMB 09ER” from this thread itself, shows how mature some people are.

nicely said. i agree

There’s simply too much free gold on this site for me to ever be put off by people slamming new joiners. 99% wont even read SRK in a year’s time & so dont give two sh1ts about if it gets cluttered. let the more regular users have their rants, if anything its a funny ! come on, sticks and stones lads, this is the internet afterall

of course there will be some who joined in 09 and get a hard wrap because of it and are not listened too. if that happens, fuk it, it doesnt harm you and in all honesty it simply leaves a permanent record of when the supposedly older and wiser guy showed how much of a idiot he was!

EDIT: see you next yr older and wiser idiot

I have a bleeding rep-bar as of now, but I kinda deserve it I guess after starting a thread on the wrong sub-forum. It’s like you get burnt once and it’s actually a good thing. Makes ya learn faster.

Either way, any comment us newcommers make is bound to be less informative and more distractive than more experienced players/members. It’s sort of an aging process.

I’m still learning how to fireball. :frowning:

The majority of the site has seemed to ease down with the rage versus new people trying to step up in the community, and although I’m quite the cynic, I have some faith that this thread’s purpose holds true. Very nicely done Pryde, now if only we can fix this problem on IRC with True_Tech banning me and other people constantly for… strange reasons.

even though i am one of the newer members, i agree with this post i’ve been playing street fighter and mvc2 for YEARS and i joined SRK because i wanted to reach out and discuss my favorite hobby, which no one else seems to like where i live. i agree with this post because i too have been the victim on many different forums of n00bs and scrubbish behavior, i can’t tell you how many times i’m on the marvel comics forum and someone asks a dumshit question like, WTF? i thought loki was a dude? LOL, or is wolverine older than professer X? or other dumshit like that, i respect the first poster for bringing this problem to the forefront and hopefully expelling some of the “lesser n00bs” from posting, I know that throwing IS NOT cheap, i know how to cancel moves, etc., but i’m glad this was brought up and hopefully we’ll stop hearing “x charcater is too broken i can’t beat him, waah, waah”

I feel as though I haven’t fucked up to bad for an 09er yet.:smokin: I have gotten some negative rep, but that’s bound to happen on any forum for a number of reasons. I can at least say I’ve never made a thread in the wrong forum or broken any of the other official rules here, and that I know my place as a beginner who is just now trying to take FG’s more seriously.

In short, I realize I’m probably a shit player compared to most here (even other 09ers) yet I’ll try to use this site to further my skills until I’m at a level of play I can be proud of.

Everyone starts somewhere, as long as you don’t talk shit and read more than post you should do okay. The information is usually already posted, you just have to find it.

You have some 09 dudes that can’t even spell their favorite character’s name talking down to real pros.

hey everyone im new to the site im actually looking for the members find thread… i jus moved to az and im looking 4the 2d fighting scene if sumone can please help me. and im sorri 4 postin here

Check here, The regional matchmaking section. Look around and see who lives near you and what places you can go to to meet some people. Ask some questions and introduce yourself.

There’s a member list but that contains over 87 thousand members so…

That’s all cool.

Has anyone posted on here to the 09 posters that buying premium really helps with that “unwelcome” feeling? There are all sorts of 09ers here that don’t get shat on at every possible turn, but it just so happens that most of them have premium.

If you like this site, buy a subscription! People will be too afraid of your rep powers to flame you. (Although I shouldn’t be preaching, I let mine run out all the time)

This post made me shed a tear from every hole on my body.

Awesome post… I was debating on deleting my account on here but I think I’ll stick around a little longer. I get tired of being called a newbie scrub just because I just created an account within the past few months. I’m 25 and have been playing SF since SSF2 came out in Arcades back in 93. Ah well. Hopefully (but i’m not planning on it) people will start being a bit more considerate around here.
