Message to new members who feel unwelcome, please read! [Repost from SF4 Forum]

this has to be the answer.

i’m 09 and i’m a classic example of the SF4 scrub trying to better his game. i played back in the day on my snes till my thumb blistered but when 3rd strike dropped i was 19 and getting drunk at Glasgow University. it wasn’t til SF4 came out that i even payed the slightest bit of attention to the fighting scene.

the reason i’m lurking (sometimes posting) on SRK is that i want to get better. i love this game and i’m enjoying every minute of it.

there’s a lot of hate for 09ers who post really stupid stuff, which is totally fine.

what sucks is that veterans are loosing their space on SRK- which obviously pisses them off

so a 2 tier system where 09ers have to be invited by long standing premium members to enter the upper tier is the perfect answer

those members who have the patience to deal with scrubs and novices can do their thing while the 09 haters get their space back

SRK should be elitist. otherwise it would be gamefaqs.

First of all, I am hesitant to even post, but I can’t resist… I think it is pretty sad (and pathetic) that a thread like this even exists. I realize that SF4 created a tidal wave of new members coming to the board, which led to lots of entry level questions on what is thought to be a high level gaming board. People really should slow down and take the time to acclimate themselves to the new environment (SRK) before haphazardly posting. But we do live in what I like to refer to as a “Microwave society”. Everyone wants something for nothing and they want it right now. (Am I wrong??) That being said, I still cant justify some of the garbage spewed forth by a portion of the population on this, more or less, wonderful site. I cant think of another time were I lost so much respect for the ‘upper tier’ in a hierarchy that I wanted to join. I’m not sure “upper tier” is the right phrase to reference this “garbage” since we all know that time spent on a forum should not equate to your level of “status”, but Im refering to “veterans” that cant seem to hold back any snide remarks at all. What’s the term you like to be referred to as?? Elitist?? I don’t see anyone as “Elite” if they are not professional in the way they conduct themselves, in person or otherwise… Period.

As you can see, I registered on SRK in '09 (I guess that is supposed to matter around here ??). I am still excite about my return to SF and fighting games in general. Like a lot of ppl, life caught up with me and games in general took a back seat. I found myself in college full time (and working 38-40 hrs a week) with a wife. Then I went on to Grad school, so obviously I did become disconnected from the SF scene. Now I am more or less set, with good job, good money and I want to get back in to the gaming scene. I want to custom build a joystick for PSX, i like studying frame data, I like the mind games (several layers deep) that comes out in SF. I like to learn win or lose. I think eventually I can contribute to the community here. In the meantime, I will try to continue learning as much as I can. To The “New” guys, I hope you are able to stick with it, see past some of the BS posters here (they are not as “elite” as they think they are), since there is so much that can be gleaned otherwise. I just wanted to express my opinion, since I am just as entitled as anyone else who posted on this thread.

No…

Join date doesn’t really mean much except that most trolls that get banned come back with accounts that have recent join dates so people try not to get baited. Aside from that, a moron is still a moron, regardless of join date. “^this” or “qft” or “:china:” are not witty comments, just spam. Also, posting what was already posted countless times is not constructive discussion, it’s spam that prevents constructive discussion from proceeding and makes constructive discussions more difficult to find. Taking some time to actually do a little research on your issues here works magic. SRK is not Gaia, you don’t get gold for spamming the same thing over and over.

Whiny ass people, just take your hazing like men, they don’t want this to be another friggin’ gamefaqs or whatever.

Nice. I’ve been visiting for a year or so, but never bothered to sign up a name until today. It was crazy when you couldn’t get anything to pull up.

I don’t think Date joined should be any indicator of skill. Maybe knowledge of forum attitude, but even then…I don’t know how to act on this forum haha. IMO treat every poster equally until they prove they are knowledgeable with the games or not.

It does seem that join date= knowledge base is the formula subscribed to by many who post. Just because someone has been on SRK since the beginning does not mean that they know everything and that someone who joined the forums years later lacks knowledge. I only joined last November but that doesn’t mean that’s when I started playing fighting games. I started with the original Street Fighter, lost faith, got back into them when World Warrior came out, and haven’t stopped since.

I loves this
although im probally what you will call a beginner
but do not get me wrong i know the ins and outs of the characters i play with
and i believe i have graduated from the “scrub” status
however i am new here and im still on my journey learning
i just purchased my very first arcade stick and im re doing my execution training
i dont want to be dogged for asking for a few tips here and there
i mainly need these tips because here in Pittsburgh there is no fighting game scene
it is honestly me and my 2 best friends. however im going about trying to get people into the community, taking things serious practicing execution watching pro matches and going to EVERY accesible tourney they can goto. Now my first ever official tourney was First round at the Gamestop Sf4 tounament and i won i have my yellow head band on my wall to prove i am ready to take that extra step into higher level of play.

i feel unwelcomed

You’re not the only one that feels unwelcome.

There are basic rules of civility that a bunch of people here don’t know at all. These people were all raised by jerks or obviously were orphans of the state because nobody with any decent parents acts like this in real life – or online.

You can quote me rule-and-verse about the FAQs but sometimes you can’t find the information you need with the Search Function. And this site has been up and around long enough that some hits generate well over fifty pages that you have to glance through one bitty at a time to find ANYTHING that sort of answers your questions. Other times, people are just making an honest mistake but the pre-09 assholes and self-appointed moderators make it a point to elevate their tiny, shrivelled little genitals by being complete pricks to others.

There are so many people here that give attitude on a dime! There’s no reason for it!

Outside of the Tech Talk section, it is so unpleasant to look in the other forums because we’ve got a bunch of teenagers and people who feel entitled to be complete assholes to others that they don’t know that they can all basically go to hell as far as I’m concerned.

I hope you little piece of shits that can’t get along with other people who aren’t 100% like you and CAN’T act like anything other than rabid chimpanzees do well in the virtual world because you certainly as hell won’t make it in the real world with the arrogance and complete lack of modesty and manners you display here. You are doomed to failure in life if you can’t get along with other people and demonstrate basic decency and manners.

I’m convinced asking for any kind of civility and SOME MANNERS is pointless here and unfortunately the mod’s opening post only helps reinforce the assholes that daily make things miserable for other people.

^ Im going to try and explain to you why most 09s are treated this way. This was posted in another thread and I think its a pretty solid answer to why there is so much 09 hate:

Fighting games havent been mainstream for awhile, but now because of SFIV, suddenly everyone loves fighting games and has been playing them for years. And guess what? Im one of them. I’ll admit it, before SFIV I only played fighting games casually. Ive played fighting games before, Ive read up on them and learned combos, but yes this is the first one Im getting serious about.

Back to the point at hand -

Its because this forum used to consist primarily of fighting game enthusiasts who came together and discussed their hobby. Now its filled with fighting game nubs asking the same damn questions over and over again and after they have been answered, they go and make their own thread about it. People who ignore stickied threads and clutter the forums with their stupidity. And when the game first came out, SRK crashed quite often because of the new wave of people rushing to this site to gather tips and tricks.

If I had been a member of this forum for a few years before this, hell yea Id be pissed the fuck off. All of a sudden I need to wade through the ocean of new members who come into a community that I have been a part of for a long time and turn it upside down with ignorance and stupidity. And even more than that, for awhile I couldnt even visit the site because all these little H3 and CoD players saw SFIV come out and all of a sudden they are hardcore fighting game enthusiasts, (when most cant even fucking Hadouken) and will most likely not play SFIV after a few months and never come here again. So why both being nice to people that are just playing SFIV as a fad and not as a hobby? And despite all of this, all of their trespasses, they dont have the intellect to even consider why they are hated in the first place, and give attitude to senior members

Yea yea I know, 09 hating on 09. Its not even about the join dates, so much as it is the people. Maybe its because this is their first forum and dont know how things work. Maybe its cause most are 12 years old or younger. I dont know, but what I do know is that it just so happens that the majority of 09ers are just fucking stupid and ignorant fools. There is no other way to put it, and thus it is because of the people behind the join date that most, if not all, 09ers are hated because most senior members find it easier to group all of us in with the ocean of retards rather than weed out the good ones, and I for one dont blame them.

With that being said, continue on…

Does anyone have any tips on executing charge moves?.. Just kidding. Thanks for all the free info and tips. Great site.

The hatefull comments make me want :dp: :hp: myself… not

ClxJames,

I pretty much ignore the stupid reputation points because there are a bunch of little kids here that don’t want to be adults.

Part of being an adult is being courteous to people. Extreme ignorance is demonstrated by a lack of manners and basic politeness. Being humane is NOT the same thing as being human. There are plenty of human beings that are idiots and act that way their entire lives. There are whole villages and cities of them on the planet. Being humane and having class is something that takes effort but it leaves a much better impression on people.

Those are subtleties lost on a lot of people here because they don’t stop and think before they write or talk to other people. It’s amazing that people still haven’t learned after elementary school that you have to choose your words and think things through before you talk to other people. A bunch of the people that make things miserable here have no ability to do that at all!

The amount of unprovoked cussing and dick-swinging in these forums is ridiculous. A lot of these guys need to be taken into a shed and hit with a 2 X 4 across the head. Their behavior does not impress at all.

They can click on and add negative points to another guy’s reputation like there’s no tomorrow. It’s so easy to manipulate that and kind of pointless. So much for moderation on these forums! What a joke…

I just help people out when I can in the Tech forum and look for advice and help there, too. The FG, Online, and SF IV talk is just nasty.

Stop bitching, it’s getting old. And your Tech “advice” probably sucks as well, that section is just a shell of its former self.

Everything you typed after your first sentence…negates your first sentence. Good job.

You’re taking everything a bit too personally. If you can’t handle the heat of SRK, you really have no business in the competitive fighting game community, which is full of haters from coast to coast. Chances are, at the end of the tournament, these haters will be your best friends over a couple beers, but you won’t even be invited to the after party if you act all butthurt over some rude words exchanged during the games. This isn’t church man. In SF we use our outside voices.

What about old members who dont feel welcomed :frowning:

Like new members that don’t feel welcomed…it’s their own fault.
