Maybe it is a laptop thing…I know this machine (it’s an IBM) has weird issues with Neverwinter Nights, too. Something to do with the graphics card having been altered to fit, and that creating wacky compatibility problems.
Well, back in the States in two weeks. We’ll see if it gets working before then.
The thing is the game IS a resource hog. There is also the fact that while the game is 2D, it uses many DirectX 9 stuff, which means it’s doing “fake” 2D; it’s creating polygons with a 0 Z value (meaning it’s basically a flat cube) the using the sprites as textures. It’s a great method and allows for a ton of nice 3d effects, but it also automatically becomes a resource hog.
MB: ReAct also runs in 800x600. EFZ runs in 640x480…
I don’t know about 1. I have a NVidia GeForce FX 32MB on my laptop and the game runs smoothly. It may be an issue of drivers. Do you have the latest? Does your card has 32 MB on the card or is it a 16MB card that takes the other 16 megs from your system’s main memory?
What you can try to do is to put the backgrounds on simple, which helps improving frame rates. As of where exactly it is, I don’t know. But someone did post that in this thread.
EFZ is a 2D game. As someone else said, MB is a 3D game. That’s why EFZ runs in older machines compared to MB.
No. Probably the best way is to get an pad or a PSX adapter. I still can use the keyboard okay, but I get tired after a little bit for having my hands so close to each other, especially in a laptop keyboard. I do somewhat better in a desktop keyboard, but I still prefer laptop keyboard’s keys.
Yes. The first release is pretty unstable. Get the patches. The latest was released on 7/3, and you can get it from Watanabe Seisakujo’s site (http://www2s.biglobe.ne.jp/~k_wata/).
*“MELTY BLOOD ACT-CADENZA”
*Currently location testing (weekend of July 11th)
*Watanabe is -not- actively involved in the port
*FPS counter has been replaced with a 60-second (but probably
dipswitch-configurable) timer
*Only 10 characters selectable (down from 18 in Re.ACT, admittedly some of those are still bugged/incomplete)
*Revamped select screen…
*Running slowly on the Naomi hardware, needs serious optimization if it wants to run smoothly (recommended PC spec: 333MHz CPU + 32MB VRAM…)
*Lots of bugs, glitches, balance issues, plus the occassional crash or three
Nah, it’s okay. Actually I am not completely sure where it comes from first, since there are common members in SRK, Beast’s Lair and MMCafe, and the news popped in all sites before I knew
Further disucssion in MMCafe, Insert Credit and Beast’s Lair is not very encouraging, though
I don’t know if anyone’s interested, but I’ve been playing around a lot with Miyako, who has some fun combos but does shit damage. Attached are a few replays of combos i did in training (note: I used MB:ReACT 2.004; if you try playing these on anything but, it won’t work).
I saw this on S-C forum in the Kenju thread too. And in my opinion, thats just excellent to Melty Blood sitting right next to Kenju at a location. I wanna see this in the states.
It would be nice if Watanabe made changes to their game so it could be played in ‘Arcade mode’, kind of like Stepmania does. That way you could just plug in a pc in an arcade cabinet and blam, you got your game
Just go to the EFZ > Download section. The patch you need depends on your version of EFZ (if you just have vanilla EFZ, I highly recommend you to get Blue Sky and Bad Moon Edition so you can upgrade).
For framerates in Melty Blood, look for an option that switches backgrounds to simple mode. That should help for what someone said in this thread.
