Melty Blood ReACT

Good vid, Vigor.

They did change Miyako’s air throw becuase it allowed an infinite (and yet Warc and Shiki are still at large…).

Here is an uploader with misc MB stuff:

And there is a cool Satsuki combo here:

Great vid burningvigor. I’d love to see more ReAct combos from you in the future.

Where do you go to set the options for the backgrounds. The game slows down alot whenever someone goes into Blood Heat or I’m playing on certain stages. I know MC mentions he put the background option to “simple” but I don’t know where that option is located.

If it’s it in the dialog box when you boot up, plz be specific where the option is as my comp doesn’t translate Japanese text ( so all see is “???”).

Also the game was running fine when I first played it but now it gets heavy slowdown (from the backgrounds problem above I guess) and controller input lag (i.e. I press Down on the menu screen, it takes 2 seconds to respond and A button in a match and takes about 3 seconds to see the action onscreen).

It’s the last option in the first group of choices when you go to game options (second to last selection in the menu). In the first group you’ll have difficulty 1-5, damage level 1-4, # of rounds 1-3, and then background options Complex and Simple (in that order).

Thanks that worked. Still can’t hit 60fps but at least the game plays faster now, guess it’s time for a new video card.

is there anyone that actually is up to play this game in SoCal area?

looking for comp…

If you are going to be close to Anime Expo, there will be a tournament during the convention.

That was some hot shit friend.

Damn, good stuff.

Ren! Discuss.

Mmmkay, I figured it was time for another installment of Strats No One Pays Attention To, this time for my favorite character in the game.

I think Ren is top tier. Why? Well, the most important part is her strongest weapon: EX Ice Blade. This move is fast, hurts quite a bit, and most importantly… you cannot breakfall it until you hit the ground. That last bit’s the important one. I have a feeling that this move might get nerfed in the future, which would entirely kill Ren’s game, but they’ve had three patches without touching it so I think it’s safe for now. EX Ice Blade will connect off ANY of Ren’s bufferable normals. Any of them. When Ren has circuit, look out. A single landed hit will mean major life gone.

Aside from her EX Ice Blade, Ren has the advantage of being virtually untouchable while crouching (turns into a cat, nya). Her 2+B will knock them off the ground. Mixing up 2+C (doesn’t move forward, unbufferable) and 3+C (moves forward, bufferable) is good for long-range poking. Ren’s not very good at air combos, at least not in my opinion; her launcher can be flipped out of way too easily and the timing is too tight to make it worth it. On the other hand, Ren’s short and fast jump means she can crossup and harass people with repeated double airdash 5+C, IAD 5+C and crap.

Some BnB combos I use…

  • 2+A > 2+B > B Ice Blade, add in 2+A as necessary. This combo doesn’t deal as much damage, but it will juggle them up and set them up for an EX Ice Blade whether they recover or not (it’s actually easier if they do)

  • 2+A > 2+B > 5+B > B Ice Blade, add in 2+A to get Ren about one step away, otherwise they can flip out before the Ice Blade hits. This one can be setup into EX Ice Blade, but only if you’re close to a wall, otherwise the pushback’s too great.

  • 3+C > C Cat. If it trips, great, you get to release the Neco-Arc unmolested. If it counterhits, even better, it’ll combo. If not, oh well, it might come out quickly enough unless you’re fighting Shiki Tohno or Nanaya. You can do this off a 2+B too but it leaves them a bit too close for comfort. Neco-Arc has this annoying trajectory that covers the entire vertical area in front of Ren. You can do some fucked up shit with this, like counter someone’s aircombo while being hit, EX Ice Blade and throw them into the rocket. Remember that the rocket juggles up for an untechable juggle, so air combo like crazy afterwards.

EX Ice Blade Setups:

Okay! So you landed an EX Ice Blade. What kind of crazy shit can you do after one?

  • another EX Ice Blade
  • A Ice Blade
  • B Ice Blade (you can’t super cancel this, remember)
  • 3+C
  • 5+C
  • A Ice Blade super cancelled into EX Ice Blade
  • jump, 5+C > double jump > 5+C > airdash > 5+C/throw
  • air EX Ice Blade
  • (Blood Heat) Raging Demon

In general, you don’t want to blow your circuit doing repeated Ice Blades, unless you want to show off; the hits deal subsequently less and less damage. The main point of EX Ice Blade is that it can’t be airblocked and is relatively difficult to shield, and you can hit them afterwards for free. So what you want to do is to keep them up there and reset the combo counter to kill the damage scaling.

The most effective (and practical) method I’ve found was to simply do a three-fierce air combo (use airdash and doublejump). Ren will land before the enemy; it’s up to them whether they tech or not, though most will do so out of instinct. Upon a tech, just wait a split second and do another EX Ice Blade. This will restart the combo counter at 0 and hit for full damage, at which point you can… repeat the process again. If they don’t tech out, do another three-fierce air combo. It’ll say Invalid, but you win either way.

If you want to be flashy, you can use air EX Ice Blade to reset the combo counter. EX Ice Blades recover pretty much instantly, and they can be teched, so once you’re in Heat go nuts. Tiger knee air EX Ice Blade is also good for countering anti-airs like Sion and Arcueid’s uppercuts, and anti-air normals like Walachia’s 6+C and Nrvnqsr’s 2+C, both of which normally have high priority and must be otherwise shielded/shield countered.

You can’t really end air combos effectively with her airthrow anymore, since you can’t combo after them, but if you jump low enough you can land before they do from an air throw and resume the combo from there; burningvigor’s combo video shows this tactic in action, although with the tiny damage her air throw deals, in all practicality if you had that much circuit you’re probably better off resetting her EX Ice Blades.

One thing to remember is that while her normal Ice Blades are persistent, her EX Ice Blade is not. Normal Ice Blades will trade with freaking everything and counterhit like a bitch. Even if you hit Ren out of one, you’ll probably get hit right back. EX Ice Blades come out near-instantly, but have 0 invincibility frames; you can be throw, hit, and even Ice Bladed out of them in a mirror match.

That’s about it for now, I think.

I’ve never been to one of those before…how do I get there and where do people play normally?

chaos

just pick chaos jump Cx3 or 4 defeats all strats in the game
then pick len vs chaos and spam cats and rush him down

Don’t you have to pay to get in?

I contacted the people of the event in AnimeExpo.

They told me that they don’t have anything official, but will put flyers around inviting other doujinshi game people for a challenge. They will primarily play the Melty Blood and Queen of Hearts series, but are open at adding EFZ with my help.

No plans for tournament unless there is enough people.

If you want to contact the people organizing the “event” go here: http://realotakuheroes.com/index.html

If you are going and are a pad user, bring your own pad. I have an adapter for my laptop, but don’t use pads myself.

For those who don’t know, AnimeExpo is the biggest West Coast anime convention. Information here: http://www.anime-expo.org/

More info as I keep contact with them.

For the convention, yes. But these guys are doing this outside the con. You may want to contact them via email to get more information. How to contact them is on my previous post.

lucky. Otakon isn’t gunna have Melty Blood stuff if I’m correct. (I’m East Coast, not West so I can’t go to Anime Expo)

Nice combo vid.

Ya know that EX Punch combo for Satsuki, is there a “normal” way to chain that combo. Cause nobody is stupid enough to get hit by that obvious combo in corner, so wondering if there’s an easier way to trigger it cause the damage itself is awesome.

You can bait it. EX Slap in the Face is a good poke that also has a lot of priority. You can make the opponent thing you are open after an attack, and then EX Slap it. Something like Shoryuken setups.

In actual play you’ll probably have to settle for comboing into it. 2+A > 2+B > 2+C (2 hits) > 5+B > EX Air Grab > EX Punch > (wallslam) EX Punch > (wallslam) EX Air Grab > EX Punch > (wallslam) EX Punch. It’s not going to deal as much because of damage scaling, but that’s still a ton of damage on a Heat circuit. This’ll work if you’re about halfway across the screen… super cancelling EX Punch off of an A Punch will seem to let them recover faster off the wallslam.

Queen of Hearts == :slight_smile:

Melty Blood == :smiley:

EFZ == :eek:

If there is some EFZ going down I know my buddy and I will definitely have to come through and see how other players stack up (with only two players growth can sometimes stagnate). That game is way too fantastic and MUCH better than Melty Blood IMO.

I’ll keep a look out for the flyers. At the very least we’ll probably see what’s doing with Melty Blood and join in on a few rounds. (though neither of us have played it in ages)

AnimeExpo update:

Including EFZ seems to have more chances now. I will try to contact Real Otaku Heroes during the preregistration on Thursday, so we can make plans. We might even push for something in the console room, but there are still just plans.

IronChefZilla: if you happen to be in the registration line on Thursday, you can look for me. I will be on the line carrying a gray Toshiba laptop, and I will be wearing a Chun Li pin (if I can find it).
