Most people are glass is half empty or glass is half full types, hav is the glass clearly has a crack and soon there will be nothing left type
I’m really not. I’m actually one of the most optimistic, positive-thinking people I know.
I just don’t like people’s bullshit.
Top CvS2 players aren’t flocking to SF4 at all.
Bas doesn’t play. I haven’t seen Uma playing. Pinokio, AO, Maede, Kisshi… I’ve seen KOK play… he’s clearly not taking SF4 seriously. Kurosu, Daidouraku… CAB, GAO, Nakanishi, Deshi… I’m not seeing these guys. Obviously, I’m not in Japan, so I may be wrong… but I’m not seeing them.
The only people I’ve seen playing SF4 are Mizoteru, Iyo, Shiro (who quit CvS2 a looooong time ago), Namemeso, Chari or Dari (one of them…). Who else is playing?
Anyway… are you actually gonna come out and play SF4?
im up for this, i dont live far from wheaton and im always there on the weekends.
To super randomly bring up the matchup issues with Gief…Gief’s worst match against arcade characters is more than likely against Sagat and it’s 7-3 at worst. Gief can still win it he just has to try hard. Akuma is probably tough too but he doesn’t have one button to beat most of what he does like Sagat. The only potential 8-2 or worse matchup Gief will have is vs. Seth. That is a bad match for sure just by looking at it on paper.
Oh and the guy who’s worried about certain old heads keeping him out of the competitive scene…the only thing you can do now is to take it upon yourself to find the people who are playing the game and play with them. If they think the game is too easy for you then it shouldn’t be that hard to bring yourself to a level in SFIV where you can beat them and train yourself to eventually go toe to toe with the tops. Don’t be concerned about the people posting saying they don’t like the game…they’re not everybody in the SFIV scene. They’re just voicing their opinion and trust me you’ll still have to eventually fight one of them in a SFIV tournament.
if you don’t like sf4 then go play some other game. it might not be fun to play scrubs in sf4, but it’s not fun to play scrubs in any game. randoms supers/dp have been around since supers/dp have been around. input windows have been getting larger since after ST.
i recall a very similiar discussion when tekken 5 first came out. some of the vets from Tekken 4 bitched and bitched how t5 was so “random” and scrub friendly in execution. how scrubs could land some lucky ch and win. they made it seem like that would never happen in t4 (which is more of a half truth). of course the TTT people could see T4 as random and scrubby. and the cycle continues.
if you want your execution heavy, competition heavy game. you have ST on turbo 3. go ahead. play it. people will continue to play it as long as SF exists. it isn’t to say you won’t lose to scrubs in ST. cause you will lose to scrubs in ST. heck maybe more in ST due to randomness than SF4. You have random dizzy, random throw, random super (which does a lot of damage), a two hit combo doing like 30% damage, etc. if a scrub gets a random jump in with full meter, then random dizzy. it’s over.
yet i’m pretty sure - just like in sf4 - top level player is far less random, risky and annoying to watch. in fact - some of the SF4 matches look a lot like ST matches (e.g. daigo ryu vs mago sagat)
3s will never be better than any game…
Gief will not be able to beat seth, barring some magical headbut that will not happen because he can not close distance on him.
As hard as it for me to say 3s is better than sf4. People should really stop saying play something else there is nothing to play.
um… where the hell is everyone playin nowadays… an where in the hell is everyone at anyway? people to seem to have just disappeared…

Arcade SF4 > 3s
Console SF4 > 3s
Arcade whatever > 3s
KOF 95 on gameboy > 3s
SF4 is good, not great. The old games are still REALLY good too (arcade only imo). The sad thing is that now that sf4 sold so well, the next few SF games will probably have a lot of easy mode BS to worry about.
I refuse to believe Hav and Rugal would have more fun playing 3s then SF4, RREEEEFFUUUSSEEE.
THREES. Parries FTW. I almost picked up Gouken cuz he’s got parries.
Easy mode is the wave of fighting games in the future in Japan. Look at Tatsunoko vs. Capcom…reduced Marvel to 3 Melty Blood buttons and a switch button. You’ll probably have to wait for SF5 before SF becomes anything near CVS2 or Alpha 3 technical again.
Like Chemistren pretty much said…hardcore players will always be the minority in the fighting game genre. Even if we get sponsors and run around winning tournaments all over the place if the game don’t sell…we get screwed in the end.
easy mode is the future. unless we get a new company making the new guilty gear (e.g. what guilty gear X was when it first came out for the DC), it’s gonna be easier and easier. blazblue = easy mode gg. hdremix=easy mode ST. sf4=easy mode sfexplusgarouST. kof12 = easy mode kof98? and so on.
i’m not saying it’s good or bad. i’m just saying that seems to be the direction things are going in. then again you could have super technical fighters like SWR / IaMP but then again who plays that shit
Again, I’ve yet to see a player go to Seth to “counter” my gief. It has YET to happen. If it’s so “easy, and a 8-2 match” … why do players go to blanka to counter gief?
No scrub is going to pick seth and rape my gief for free or anything.
Everyone thinks the Sagat/Gief match is so rape… but who is playing Sagat? Oh, only Eric Kim/Steve H/Nestor/LI joe/Roski/Joe S… good players.
Who’s repping Gief? Oh, only Renegade.
Of course it’s going to look like a mismatch. B/c it largely is before we get to the character select screen.
ST isn’t execution heavy. It can be… but the high damage makes it really easy to get by with next to no combos.
You can win against a lot of comp by abusing throw loops and retarded strats. Eric Kim prides in winning in ST/HDR with the stupidest strat possible.
Charged won a tournament using Hundred Hand Slap and Headbutts. No Ochios at all.
Why else would I place well in a game?
Why would anyone run to Seth vs. a Gief right now? That matchup (and Seth in general) can only truly be realized at high level play. Basically what happens is if some scrub decides he wants to counter pick you wtih Seth he’s going to die because if he doesn’t have good defense and spacing he will get hit more than twice and lose. Seth is another Viper/Gouken/Fuerte type character where you’ve gotta sit around and lose matches you should have won just to get to a level where he can be truly realized. At high level play I theorize that the matchup will be near unwinnable for Gief. Again…theory that won’t matter for a long time.
Oh and yeah you’re pretty much the only person reppin Gief in the area tourneys.
again that’s my point. what you see is not high level HDremix/ST play. that’s fairly low level local play. you can get away with that shit when you play agains tpeople who didn’t grow up playing HF / ST. i think choi said in an interview - wong isn’t even a ST player. he’s just a really good all around tourney player. if jwong is winning a ST/HD tourney - it probably isn’t one filled with guys like choi, valle, watts, daigo, nuki, wolfe, tokido, etc.
why is ST execution heavy? cause the frame windows are small between life and death. doing an anti air DP is actually difficult. reversals aren’t for free. yet at high level play does it really matter? cause that shit is done 99% of the time by top players. ume shoryu. choi’s fireball poke and space game. deep fierce tiger uppercuts. it’s all for free at the top level.
indeed those “stupid” throw loops are part of the game. but in a real st match that takes setup, patience and risk taking. heck even daigo throws out a random fierce shoryu and gets punished for it.
why do people think execution means long ass combos? it doesn’t. it means doing the right thing, at the right time. it could be a sweep to punish. an anti poke DP. a jump in with correct spacing. all of this is execution. and guess what … it’s hard. much harder than doing a sho train or some crazy doujin/gg/arcana dail a combo
AA dps in ST aren’t hard:confused:, and i think people over emphasize the difficulty of reversals in ST. Yea if you’re playing on ggpo, or through any online/emulation medium it’s hard, but other than that it’s really not THAT bad. It’s just WAAAAAYYY more risky than it is in other games, because you could potentially lose a match by whiffing a single reversal.
We should all just play Melty Blood.
mike fucking kim…who are you preaching to here? stop talking, dude:rofl:
