MD/VA SF4 Thread

NOOOOOO. Get the Viper-Mobile back up and functioning!

those extra buttons are for mapping the 3p/k if u want, but the main reason is the postion. Some ppl prefere to use the 1st 6 buttons as opposed to the last 6, b/c of how they are postioned. I use the 1st 6, there are at a slight angle, whereas the last 6 are straight across. I forget which position the Japanese players use.

I may come tomorrow.

Thanks. I don’t know if the GT guys would remember me since I only went there maybe 4 times, mostly after I stopped playing. I think the last I was there was the one A3 tourney that Alex Valle and I believe Eddie Lee came out for.

I didn’t play in the tourney, just watched and played some terribly out of practice ST.

Don’t forget there are all kinds of variables to a stick, nearly all of which you can customize to suit your taste. JP sticks are all the rage these days but I can’t stand them. That’s one of the reasons I picked up a charge character in SF4, I can’t reliably execute on the TE. I’d take a US setup (bat top, p360 etc) anyday but I have to work with what’s available until this stick/part shortage passes.

Trust me, everybody knew everybody at Gametime. It was funny when we saw someone we didn’t recognize because we would have random people come in and play and would never see them again.

u just gotta get used to it man tho i used to be a pad player and look at people using stick like “wtf how do u use that”. tho till this day i still feel more confortable using a pad sometimes depending on what game im playing like guilty gear or somethin. and im like a thousand times batter at execution on the 2 player side. i started using a stick around the time 3s was online on xbox and i had got the anniversary stick.

i think u be fine i mean i think u did beat me in like the first mins of u using a stick ever lol.

Alright, I’ll listen to you guys, but I’m going to need a lot of encouragement to stick with it. I just can’t believe how much more effort it takes to use a stick compared to the PS3 controller. So far, it just seems like I’m playing with a handicap but EVERYONE is just telling me to hang in there so I’ll do my best. Losing to 2000BP horrible flowchart everything’s really starts to piss me off.

I tried playing some 3s after playing sf4 with a stick.

Jeeze, sf4 dumbed me down. I barely can execute anything in 3s, and I thought 3s was really lenient with execution. Oh yeah, I’m still new to stick and I think the way I’m holding my stick is still iffy. How do you guys hold it?

SF4 dumbs down everything.

including the players who play it :wasted:

really? that was just silliness, must have been a joke or something. Those were some sorry punishes

Stick with it. A lot of people WISH they were doing as well as you did with the stick when they first started. If you got that much of a lead already in learning a stick you have almost no point in dropping your stick now. Unless you want to sell it to me which I will gladly buy it off of you.

There’s a video tutorial in the tech talk thread that shows you how to hold a stick.

Capcom wanted the game to be as accessible as possible to newer players so yeah…not quite the technical game that a lot of old SF heads remember. SFIV at least in this stage of the game is a game better suited for newer players who don’t already understand every little nuance of competitive SF play. Or those who just don’t care and just wanna play a new game like me.

Nah, I’m not going to quit.

When it comes to video games, I hate slow progression and brick walls.
Since I feel I have a talent for these things I know that one small word of advice
or heads up on something I didn’t know will be the factor to helping me move forward.

While practicing Ultra motion, I believe I picked up on one important thing.
Sometimes the Super will come out instead. Although the practice screen shows
me pressing all 3 buttons at the same time, I think it may be slightly off.

So in order for me to test if I’m pressing all 3 buttons at the exact same time,
I should just test it while standing. If I’m doing it correctly, a hard punch should come out every time, right?

After seeing the video, it made me realize how much of a noob I am. Back to challenge and training modes…

Alright so I talked with the manager at X30 and he seems interested in keeping the 5 dollar all day thing (Sun-Thurs) until the end of next month. He also said that he would consider doing some kind of a special for us fighting game players. Considering this is the video game community we kinda have to take some of this with a grain of salt, but I think the 5 dollar deal being good until next month will help us get those extra practice sessions we need inbetween C3’s.

Like said a page before…**next X30 gathering is going to be tomorrow Wednesday from 3-10 pm **(providing they fixed their bathroom and lightning doesn’t strike twice). Hopefully this will end up being our make up day for Monday’s wash out. 11640 Rockville Pike Rockville, MD 20852. Walk across the street from the White Flint metro station and you’re there. In a shopping center with a Papa Johns and there’s a Popeyes and Arby’s next to X30 just outside of the shopping center

Let’s head this place up big tomorrow and show them that we’re serious about bringing numbers and using their venue as a place to practice up and eventually do some tourneys. The ideal situation would be that one day they reinstate the fighting game membership they used to have that will allow us to come in any day all day for 5 bucks. Of course that’s being real ideal in this economic climate but even something almost as good as that would be cool.

I’ll also announce my plan for a 1st X30 SFIV tournament possibly tomorrow. It will probably happen sometime next week since I understand people already are spending money on C3 this Saturday.

not mahvel

I am very much so starting to see this truth…

Some people I know have been playing BlazBlue and then go back to play SF4…they say the can see a huge difference in the “Fighting” portions of the games. BB let’s you actually fight while SF4 tends to be a turtle-er’s dream!

…prime example…

I think this is also very true. I am not a huge fan of this game, but there will be more fighting games coming for everyone to play and get better at. I will still be around for SF4, but I am all about trying out KoF12 and BB…maybe Marvel?

Lol, same thing happened to me when I tried HDR. I was so use to reversal windows being like 20 minutes long, and meaties being rare. Also, 3s is pretty lenient. I found SFIV to be the most lenient. In fact it’s so lenient the wrong move comes out for me all the time…

To be honest in the end it’s all a matter of preference. However, as someone who played with a pad 4 months ago. I can’t stress it enough how much better it’s once you get use to a stick. I think the main thing is you have to have the desire to want to use a stick. I was so psyched about using one back when I played HDR cuz I was burning the skin off my fingers with Fei long back then. It took me a total of a week to get pretty well-adjusted cuz I really was anxious to use one.

Once you get use to it you focus way less on landing moves, and more on the actual match. In fact right now I play Ibuki in 3s which is a pretty execution heavy character in 3s. I have problems with my execution at times, however I’m seeing an improvement in my game as I go on. However, in February I wouldn’t have dreamed of playing Ibuki with a pad or something, fuck that.

Oh yah, and Upas linked this in another thread. It might help, cuz I recently started using the wineglass method, and abandoned the pen looking style I used.

Also, off topic, but why does C3 not have 3s anymore? :crybaby:

I cant make it tomorrow.

Oh snap. I’m still waiting on my multimeter to arrive in the mail, so my diagnosing skills are kind of limited, but I can still take a look at it. I believe the Madcatz retro board is common ground, so I’m not sure if the issue is with the grounds.

I’ll ask around and see if anyone has encountered the same error. If not, your stick isn’t completely useless. Does it still work well on PS3? I’m assuming if there IS a faulty board (as opposed to a weak solder point or something fixable), we can always switch a new one it and you won’t have to get rid of the stick.

Either way, there are things we can try to fix the problem.

Ah, that’s cool. There were still a few of us at Popeyes, so it wasn’t only me xD

You definitely have talent. Using the stick for the first time, you won against a non-scrub. Not many people can brag about that :D. Stick with it. Most people take 1-2 weeks to get used to it, and longer to become proficient.

As for the three buttons, I’m not quite sure what comes out. Sanwa buttons are quite sensitive, but you might wanna give em a good hard tap for ultras. I know I do :stuck_out_tongue:

Have you found a good joystick hold yet or are you still experimenting? I know when I first got on a stick, I would hit buttons early, and that caused problems. I still wouldn’t call myself proficient with a stick.

Sweet, we got another month of $5 gaming  I’m pretty sure after our showing on Monday, the manager knows we’re for real.
