MD/VA SF4 Thread

Yeah regardless of the random thunderbolt of destruction I’m pretty pleased with the turnout. I’ll be there wednesday after work :o

Whenever you can make it is all good. Whether you can make it one day a week or 3 times a week I think this has potential. Maybe next time we’ll get more of those Viper mirrors in. We had like 4 Viper players there today. Can’t get that online. Have to fight your Akuma some more next time you come also.

Perhaps me being in Arkansas was for the best lol

I’m using the stick now and I’ve been in training mode a lot.

It is a drastic change. It feels like I’m playing a completely different game. I can’t even do double qcf motion consistently. I keep changing my hand on the stick to see if there’s a better way to hold the stick. Just a frustrating experience in general.

I just hope I’ll see more consistency over time.

gg’s everyone…kind of sucked about the x30 thing

I’m no expert on the stick either of course, but what changed for me from switching from a pad was just shortening all my motions and not going so hard in each direction, especially for double QCF. if you have that JLF you should notice u just barely need to move the stick for it to register directional inputs…once i got used to it, it got way better for me.

Sup peeps! Damn I made an attempt to play some games at X30 but Mother Nature had other plans for me. I arrived at 5:20 only to find out that they were closing at 6 due to the power outages around the area. Gg’s to OZ as this was the only cat I got a chance to play. At least I didn’t have to pay 5 dollars, I’ll try to make it out wed :china:

Umm… my house didn’t have power problems. Too bad I wont be able to host for another 2 months or so.

Give it a week or two, and you’ll be better than ever  You were still winning even with a stick, so I’d say give it a shot at C3 (if you’re going and have a team) regardless of how you feel.

That sucks x_x. Hopefully wednesday will work out better. I’ll try to be there, but I might have to come right after work. I saw you at popeyes but then I turned around and you were gone. What happened?

I woulda liked to come, but I couldn’t get out to Herndon x_x. Maybe next time (in 2 months).

Well if u come Wednesday I’ll need you to look at my stick. I have a Mad Catz retro 360 PCB in the stick and it’s acting really nuts. Like both the right trigger and the left trigger act as the same function and the stick will randomly decide to the activate the right trigger and the stick will randomly move in certain directions. I’m thinking something is wacky with the grounds but we’ll see.

what part of west bodymore? I’m currently in “jewtown”

When you open the top of your stick can you lift up the 360 pcb? Are there resistors on the trigger pots? They look like pills kind of.

Yeah I got those pill looking resistor things.

Why are there like 5 VA/MD threads

:\

Welp, new to local gaming and getting bored of doing dumb/notsouseful links online. I wanna try some lagless matches.

now what?

go to x3o on wednesday, 3-10 dude.

I could use some tips on using a stick. Here’s what I’ve picked up on so far:

1.) Try not to hit the gate. You can go in any direction without moving all the way in one direction.

2.) In training mode, I’ll do a Super instead of a Ultra a lot. Is that because I’m not hitting all 3 punch buttons at the same time? And why doesn’t anyone use those “extra” buttons?

That’s about it so far. I’m not understanding why a stick makes execution much easier compared to a PS3 pad. Is there something I’m not getting?

i guess it isnt any different than the number of NY threads for example

Patience my friend, you have only used it for less than a day.
You don’t have to use those extra buttons, its really personal preference. I think people don’t use it because they don’t have them in arcades? I haven’t played at an arcade with a SF4 cab to know though
Your execution is supposed to be easier because you are able to link combos easier that you would not be able/less able to do on a pad. Comparatively, the pad is very much less sensitive and responsive than a customized stick.
If you find it that over time and a lot of practice that the pad just suits you better and that you can develop as a player better with a pad, then go ahead and use it.
-For the super/ultra problem, change the settings so that you can see your inputs so you can see what you are doing wrong

what’s this x3o all about

Edit: welp read up a page back. Are there going to be sticks there? I only got a stick for the 360

There were 12 sticks at X30 yesterday. You won’t have a problem. I may have to use someone’s stick on Wednesday cuz mine officially died last night.

Inferno you don’t want to use the extra buttons. Just stick to using the 6 regular buttons. That’s what’s used at the arcades. The only reason anyone would use the extra buttons is to cheat and map 3 punches or 3 kicks to one button to do ultras and even that isn’t 100 percent consistent. Sometimes the game will make you do an EX or a super instead even with mapped buttons. Your best bet is just to learn how to hit 3 buttons at the same time.

BTW if you don’t like your stick by Wednesday can u sell it to me? I doubt my stick is going to magically work again tomorrow. I’ll have Upas look at it then.

Cuz not everyone likes SFIV.

Renegade: Yeah I should have went to your place. Herndon is a little bit closer for me than Rockville. It’s all good. Still tryin to get 6/20 off in order to attend your tourney sir :china:

Upas: Yeah I was at Popeyes for a sec but then I got an important phone call.
