MD/VA 3S Thread

eric L… if ur seriously considering this ill do what i can to help you out for free man… if this can bring a scene back then im sure lots of people would be willing to help out too…

a coworker of mine actually has an arcade in her house, like a legit one… so she knows a guy thats usually selling games at really good prices…

also i heard about a big arcade game convention thats held in PA that my dad and his friend goto sometimes and get cabbys at a good price… they may be old school games, but they are elite…

Hmmmm very good positive feedback fellas. So it seems that from what everyone is saying that they are down for Jap cabs. and as long as I have a wide variety of fighting games then its all good. I am glad that everyone will have my back on this so we can have a place to chill in again. How does everyone feel about an area between springfield and fairfax?

Thanks Slogan I’ll definitely keep that in mind. I have meeting next week with someone that will help me get started. After that I’ll begin getting things together and let you know what’s up.

DDR. i love that game.

and im sure anthony would like to see goofy hoops again.

just make sure you have a secret backroom so we can do illegal gambling. blackjack, poker, roulette, craps, and of course BINGO…

nah but seriously im sure anything you do will have the support of everyone in the community. just dont go out of your way just to meet our requests. like peeps have said. good working sticks and buttons will do fine. if anything get cabs with some elbow room. nothing too fancy like jap caps unless u can get them for cheap. also i already told u i would donate my XvSF board. im sure weve all had the same dream of building a really ffaaattt arcade but laziness/brokeness have stopped us.

fffffffffaaaaaaaaaatttttt

eric u need a poker worm room in the back, just like pvfp said

Seriously, anybody down to play Marvel for atleast 4 hours today?

edit: my DC keeps resetting on me.

I think alot of us have had this dream. lolz. Mine usually involves what side business do I want around my arcade to make it actually profitable. You can do alot of things, easiest is food. Sketchiest is pool hall. I always thought about game store/ LAN center w/ the arcade.
Cigarbob cabby design’s are the way to go. Switchable controller plates US/JPN ftw.

you know they are selling the tekken tag cabbys for 200$… just a little modding and ur good to go…

but if eric is really building this… then let him buy it :stuck_out_tongue: i know namco is selling a lot of games really cheap just to get rid of them… virtua tennis is 300$ and tekken is 200$. the cabs alone are worth that, but virtua tennis is elite…

eric, you could definitely setup a food place too, that would make some bank… i know im always hungry :{

Yeah, I know you hungry .

Pat: I think that I will definitely put a few jap h2h cabs in the place. Also thanks for the donation, I’ll definitely hit you up when I get more ideas down as I see that the XvsSF is a favorite.

So far got:

Food
lounge area
arcade cabinets
poker worm (I’m already there)
PCs

Hmmmm how about music?

Virtua Tennis is the shit

Yes Eric music is a must, But like I told you the other night bro make sure you have DDR or In the groove or Pump it up. When I come through … wifey will be with me so that means I WON"T BE IN THE DOG HOUSE when she sees that its more then just fighting games there!!!

you got a superstar DJ right here :lovin:

YPei how could I forget the tightest DJ in the East.

you know i got your back whenever you need music :looney:

I’m free Sunday and Monday – anyone playing some 3S/A3/CvS2?

TVs in the lounge area – plural because there could be one for channels, and one for DVDs so people can watch DVDs when nothing else is on. Decor counts for a lot too. Lounge area would be sweet if it was all chill.

Too bad pool tables are crazy expensive and easy to damage :frowning:

Consession stand is a must, as Robin pointed out. Remember your target audiance at all times – sell sports drinks, sodas, and anything with caffeine in it (red bull!).

Switchable controller plates also sounds like a great idea, too. My thought was that if you did head to head, you could maybe have one side JPN and one side US.

You said you don’t want to compete with C3, but maybe a TV or two for some console gaming (for unpopular or rare games) and a computer or two for e-mails, messaging/chats, and stuff.

Also, if you plan on running tournies there, I think it’d be really sweet.

And, I think location counts for a hell of a lot. Fairfax might be too expensive, might end up further out toward Springfield. I would personally recommend trying to get as close as possible to a 24 hour joint and close to highway exit.

Research other arcade setups in the states and also over seas. Talk to other owners, see what works and what doesn’t.

Good luck, man.

Hey man - I just moved into Baltimore last year and haven’t seen any arcades in the area. This sounds like an awesome idea man. I really like the sitdown cab ideas… The NYC-style cabinets idea that was proposed is a cool idea too. The usual suspects of 3s/MvC2/CvS2 and T5 is enough to please people. ST would be clutch! I love a3 too, but I don’t think enough people will play that.

If this goes through it’ll be awesome to see and trust me - I’ll be there on opening day. BTW, what’s C3? An arcade in Northern VA? Maybe I can go there in the meantime - got an address and stuff?

Sup eric, i’ve been pondering the samething for years, but i’ve never had the loot to do it yet. You also need a dance game (DDR machine or pump it up), a shooter (time crisis), and racing (daytona or intial D). I wouldn’t depend on the fighters as your main source of income for the arcade. You need to focus on making sure the fighters are in tip top shape to make your loyal fighting game players happy, but you “really” need to try to target the casual video gamer 1st and formost. Your hardcore gamers will be there as long as everything works correctly, but you’ll make your rent by getting the casual gamer dollars.

That’s why the only arcades left in the ATL are in malls. Soccer moms taking there kids to the mall and leaving them in the arcade while they shop. Location is key when running an arcade. If it’s in the alley behind the crack house and in the cut the casual gamer won’t see it, but i’m not telling you to go in a mall. Strip malls are better anyways due to the fact they don’t close at 9pm like regular malls do. Late hours keep the hardcore players and it maes it easier to throw tournaments also without mall security bothering your customers. I have alot of ideas because I want to do the samething but never had the loot to do it sir. Hit me up on AIM if you want more sound ideas.

oh yea I almost forgot why I came in this thread.

I know it’s early as fuck, but I have some important news on FinaRound 10. (FRX)

Xenozip: Thanks for the ideas man. I completely agree with the lounge area. Definitely more than one TV will be there for not only for gaming, but DVDs, cable…etc.

Now the main thing is that although I didn’t want to compete with C3, I think that would deal more with the area instead of the content of my place. I do intend to have a LAN setup for gaming with about 10 to 20 PCs to start off, but then again I could probably just do some wireless internet and have folks come in with their own laptops. *shrugs

Oh and you guys know that I am going to run tourneys for sure. Although I will not do tourneys frequently like every week or Biweekly cause I don’t want to wear it out. Gametime at one point started doing weeklys, and although the love for the game was there, the money and the time wasn’t for most of us. Eventually the amount of gamers that were showing up began to decline. So I’d rather do a monthly if anything.

Switchable controllers, sounds great, but I have no experience building them. I’ll have to find someone who can build them or I’ll practice building them on my own.

As for fairfax being too expensive, I know exactly what you mean so it might be further toward springfield.

I have done some research and found that I like TGA more than most arcades as it has everything that I am looking to put into my place. So I emailed Andy to get some info and his response was that he will send me an email that he sent to another friend who was trying to do the same thing. So still waiting on that.

MakavelianKode: welcome to MD. I’m glad that you like the idea and everyone really seems boosted about it which is good. I just hope that I can get everything together by my projected date.

C3 is the current place that we attend. We don’t go all the time, but the place is still live. The addy is 46950 Community Plaza #201A, Sterling VA, 20164 and the guy that runs it is David Le.

ShinBlanka: FRX, I think that I’ll be there for sure. Had a blast last year at FR so I’m definitely going to attend this. I’ll hit you up on AIM for sure so we can discuss some things.

Those Dance/Rhythm games are a must. DDR’s always good. I don’t know about Beatmania…drummania always does well since it’s easier to understand than beatmania.

Seems to me like it would be a good idea to put your thing close to a DC metro stop, Eric. DC has the largest concentration of people in the area and lots of the people here, even those with enough expendable income to justify going to an arcade, depend on the metro and buses to get them around. If this thing is going to survive, it’ll have to be in a place that’s easily accessible and close to a large population center.

thinkin about throwing a tourney in november, since slogan is throwing his braeburn 2nd in october and robin’s tourney is in sept…

would you prefer to do it at the beginning, middle or end of nov? need inputs. thanks
