The Sagat matchup rating I agree on; it sometimes feels impossible to get near him without the match being a near write-off; most of Rufus’s best traits are negated. Divekicks not safe even on hit, air approach generally a terrible idea, out-poking is a job and a half and there’s plenty of brick walls Sagat can make and he has good Knee mixups; Rufus can barely go offense and good luck with the defense. Greater health is the only obvious help. Not sure of my stance on Fei Long since I haven’t faced any intelligent Fei players in a while.

Rufus is not bad, but he’s not better than mid. Excepting Adon(I really don’t know any good adon player), everything seems ok to me.
I can understand why Gief went down, no more knockdown on EX Green Hands, but he’s still a pain to get into and I feel Gief has an easier time controlling the flow of the match than Rufus.
Also, Abel at 6-4? Not challenging this, but trying to understand it. I have a friend that plays Abel and me and he agree it’s pretty even, but of course, we’re not the best players in the world. He who wins usually made the first hit and started pressuring. I just don’t know how I can escape wakeup without bar.
abel don’t have a good reversal move, if you knock him, it’s free pressure, he can try escape using the roll, but you can use instant dive and grab on reaction

I’m picking up Rufus to compliment my Vega.
He has similar playstyle that revolves around grabs and pressure(of ex messiah).
Also a really good dive kick which is a bonus to his already above average amount of tools.
I’m going to enjoy this character.

You can follow up EX GT fadc to s.mp~s.mp on almost all characters instead of just s.HP. Also the s.mp~s.mp link feels a lot easier, maybe it’s just me.

Anyone else just happy that Rufus has finally got something new to play with (ex tornado FADC) since Vanilla? I don’t even care if it ends up being as highly situational as it looks. Oh, and I’m not counting a new ultra as ‘something new’ simply because it was a change every character received.
And is this the first time he’s got actual buffs? I can only remember the above average damage nerfs for vanilla to super.
The new small buff can lead to some cool new setups. You can Ex GT -> FA lvl 2 -> Crumple -> Fancy Reset/Untech.Knockdown mid screen. That’s a cool new option! Looking forward to more results from others.

Is there a post that describes the changes in his ultra 2 in AE? I’ve just started playing again after a long break and it seems his ultra 2 is now pretty worthless for punishing fireballs and jump ins.
