Cool. Thanks. I’ll give that a try. Much appreciated.
What if Rufus made pig grunts when fought instead of doing that “AYEEE!”?
then wed all had swine flu
thanks marn for that tip, it always comes out now.
I love how his theme music is littered with it:

lol me too!
don’t know if everyone reads the character notes thread (best thread on srk imo) but this is a snippet from mago’s blog:
ouch
I started playing in G1 today and it’s just one bad rufus matchup after another.
Ryu, Ryu, Sagat, Blanka, Ryu, Zangief, Balrog, Ryu…
:crybaby::crybaby::crybaby:…sorry, I’m done.
Can someone explain what it takes to be a decent Rufus? I’ve been trying to casually pick him up. In training mode I can do most of the BnB-type moves fairly consistently. But in games I am getting killed. Everything I do gets countered. When I try to get in with roll, or dive kick, they always hit me out of it. When I do get close, I can never find any opening to land a CS.HP xx Tornado. If I land some crouching jabs or shorts, I don’t have anything else to do after that to do more damage.
I feel like I’m playing him wrong, but I’m not really sure of what the correct way to play him is. What is the trick to getting these moves to land?
Everyone has there own style but usually you play towards the characters style in this case “Rush down”, with Rufus you need to keep the on going pressure but also you need to be two steps ahead of your opponent to keep him confused. So first thing you should do is get down casual BnB (Bread and Butter) combo’s; EG - Dive kick, LK, FP xx F.Galactic Tornado or Dive Kick, Cr.LK, L.Galactic Tornado (work on anything else you think may work to your advantage).
Know the spacing of your own moves so obviously you can bait or gain some ground next to your opponent, this also involves were to dive kick; so closes to the ground would be best for you to recover more quicker then your opponent does from here you can follow up with your own moves to keep up the added pressure.
Watch a few videos just to gain Idea on sets ups or things you can learn as playing as Rufus, don’t copy to much on what you see because it’s best to makeup your own style from what your used to.
Most importantly you will need to read up on each character matchup just to see what you can punish and avoid certain situation.
Keep practicing & you will eventually get better, emm after crouching jabs you might want to go a standing low punch to far medium punch or end your jabs with a EX tornado as examples.
“rufus is a no-skill character. real talk.” - arturo sanchez
???
Hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha.
Thanks for the lulz.
Seriously though. Rufus needs skills to do all his stuff. Nothing he has is easy. Thats why when newer players pick him up, they drop him with the quickness.
Rufus is my main. He has been for about a year now.
rufus is a no-skill character, he’s a risk character that relies heavily on momentum + gimmicks.
that being said, there are a bunch of no-skill character, sagat and ryu come to mind.
Context please.
Against characters like Chun li, Viper and Guile, Rufus feels like an easy mode character.
That’s why its the hard match ups (Ryu, Sagat and Zangief) that are the true tests of skill of a Rufus player… because your gimmicks and random spurts of momentum won’t win you games against them.
But yah… if Rufus is a no-skill character, the same can be said about Ryu, Sagat, Ken, Akuma, Boxer, Zangief, Blanka, Bison, Honda, Abel…
Fuck the only characters in the game who take skill would be Elf and Viper. Even Sim is easy once you learn his zoning and mix ups. Guile’s easy once you learn not to flash kick and Vega’s hard, but only because he sucks so badly.
arturo had just beat sin’s rufus with sim in the sbo qualifiers and was interviewed by gootecks and said “no disrespect to sin but rufus is a no-skill character. real talk. if he got in just once, it was over for me.”
anyway momodebu just qual’d for sbo so hopefully kindevu no-skills folk to pieces come time ^^;
Post match-up hype… No need to take it seriously. Any Rufus player would be saying the same thing after beating Sagat or Gief in a tournament.
By and by, I also play Sim, so I totally understand what Art is saying. Its frustrating how much damage he takes from Rufus and how tough it is to get out once Rufus gets in. In all fairness, I’d say its a 5/5 match, but it feels unfair to Rufus when he’s being kept out and to Dhalsim when he’s being rushed down.
RUFUS, MAH FAT BOY, I love you.
I picked up Rufis today and played the one person in player matches for about 30-45 mins. He was above average and I was complete shit with rufus. I did my thing and learned what I could. After that, I have to say that Rufus is such a great character and I’m glad the brought a new and unique character like him to the street fighter universe.
More Rufus to come!
Rofl I was practicing my FADC into Ultra in the corner:
I dashed forward then did the ultra, and I was surprised to see that Rufus actually turned around to do the ultra, 50/50 it turned around and the other he still connected it even when the other character landed in front of me.
Point being it still connected, I was wondering whats been happening because the latest videos I have seen with Sagat he does his ultra in the corner an it still connects all hits?
Did all this happen in the last patch or something?
SF4 provides some auto-correct with moves that are inputted as a character is going over you. Another reason why mash DP is all the more effective…
In any case, why not dash back-ultra in the corner? I get all the hits every time.
I can still dash back, I just have been testing a few things out lately.
