I’m not sure I follow. Can you give notation or video example of the combos you do? What assists do you use, etc?
I would not recommend going for the jab to hoodlum reset especially midscreen – that best works in the corner, and by nature of being a reset, it isn’t guaranteed. Haggar can kill a wide portion of the cast with guaranteed damage if you do the right combo and burn bar on a good THC… but in general, sj.S causes the hard knockdown at more of a 45 degree angle away from haggar whereas qcf+s and dH cause them to land directly under him, stopping most horizontal velocity.
Didn’t want to make an entire thread about this. How do you deal with Cap’s constant shield throw pressure? Is it just a matter of being patient and looking for the right distance to pipe? How do you get around this when they are using beam/hawkeye assits?
My Team is Haggar/Chris/X-really undecided on an anchor that is good for this team. I know "Oh just play Wesker or Doom, but I kind of like underused characters to. I mainky use Chris just for the assist and combos as I’m horrible with him for now. I was thinking I’d like for my anchor to have an assist that allows haggar to get in. Thoughts, suggestions? Ty.
EDIT: Why does Cap do sooo much damage o_O. I also realized his normals, especially crouching are ridiculously fast and beat out most of my attacks if I try to compete for a hit confirm.
Also, if you havent seen this, I’m pretty sure its all why we play the Mayor of Earth
I try to be pacient and wait for the best time to approach, pipe isn’t so good against cap because of the slow startup, i usually try the headbutt or violent axe at the startup of his air shield slash
my friend plays cap/spencer/iron man, it’s REALLY annoying
you guys should see yesterday’s stream of the tournament i went, where i lost to that same cap guy (he won the tournament)
check it out here:
lol there are so many players using cap now D:
i almost lost to another friend using Cap/Spencer/Doom
i just managed to get a comeback with a savior foot dive
This might be a day one thing but is there any way to guarantee the ground bounce from Rapid Fire Fist? I’m having trouble getting it after lariat with any consistency.
Most consistent way is to not mash to avoid getting the extra punches. The more hits there are reduces the chance of getting the ground bounce at the end. In other words, a level 1 rapid fist hyper usually succeeds on getting the ground bounce while a level 3 one instead usually fails and you are forced to DHC to make it safe.
Thanks, man.
Also, would mashing during the super itself (which is to say after the animation and after it had been determined that it will be a level 1 rapid fist) affect the chances of ground bounce? I like to raw tag frank in after the super to level him up, so the more hits, the better. I suppose I’ll go test this myself when I get the chance.
Ha! I first read your post in class and couldn’t respond at the time but I knew this question was in reference to playing with Frank. I do the same thing and the only guaranteed way to pull off a fully mashed RFF is if they are on the ground.
:l:,,:f::h:,:qcf: then canceling into RFF after the first hit will get frank just enough hits to reach level 4 when hard tagged in. Once you get that down you can start calling in the lariat assist right before taking a picture you can relaunch for a second picture getting you to level 5.
Thanks, I’ll definitely aim to land RFF while comboing on the ground. At first, I just wanted frank for the assist, but I’m learning more and more that him and haggar have a good amount of synergy.
Who is your 3rd? I play Hawkeye poison shot but I have been itching to find a replacement. 9 times out of 10, I’ll land a full RFF off of a whiffed lariat. Especially online, people are always jumping and are rarely caught on the ground, so if I whiff a lariat and they are crouched there mashing L or if I am confident enough that they will punish me once lariat is up, I will RFF and the invincibility on the start up gets me in there for at least 46 hits for frank.
I’m in between teams at the moment, so I don’t really have one. I suppose I’m currently using Wesker for the OTG (and for the Wesker), but I don’t have a set team at the moment; just trying different stuff out.
On smaller characters, from max range L, M, pipe, M Axe will have the Axe whiff, so I always do H Axe, it works the exact same way, same hits, same damage, everything, just a little more range.
Mr. Whelan, thank you for your countless tips and awesome videos for Haggar players. I’ve been stricken by Haggar since the old days of Final Fight (he looked uncannily like my correctional officer father), and when he was a playable character in MVC3 and UMVC3 it was a no brainer.
I looked forward to practicing these resets against my buddy that plays Nemmy, Ghost Rider and Vergil.
Thanks man, glad I can help out. Good luck dealing with that team, there’s not that many good matches for haggar but all 3 of them are incredibly hard.
I’ll be posting a set I had with a 3rd Ranger from last weekend. (Crazy good zoning). Amazing gameplay considering online. It was an unofficial f.t.10.
Should be up within the week.
That ground roll reset is some tricky shit. I dont have a chance to try it out today but Im thinking that if I start a combo with ground bounce then do my combo until I use hawkeye poison assist to relaunch but instead of launching, just letting the pipe hit them back to the ground, forcing the tech roll into reset. If this works, my reset options with haggar are about to be ridiculous.
Yeah, Nemmy and Rider are both pains, but for some reason Vergil’s teleport is what gets me the most. Online play against the billions of Vergils out there has been good practice, but he is still a serious thorn in my side. At least if Nemmy and Ghost Rider get too annoying I can switch to one of my other characters (Deadpool and Arthur) to handle them.
Thanks for this, I was told about using and never even thought of using :h:. I usually just stayed away from this combo online because of its inconsistency but I’ve been pulling it off much more now.
