You’re right, its always better to go for guaranteed damage especially online and when you can DHC into Hulk. I know I still have to fight the habit of always going for super after lariat from vanilla but I’m trying to recognize when going for the otg is the better option depending on how late the last hit hits giving you more time.
Agreed, and if your referencing the time i dhc’d to hulk after the lariat-super, that was to get Haggar out of there and recover. With haggar and hulk, even if they only recover to half health, thats still around 600,000 to work with. They’re worth healing if possible. plus haggar assist backing up hulk never hurts
I changed teams to team Final Fight (Haggar-a/Chris-b/Strider-y) with appropriate colors.
Anyone have any tips? Haggar’s my best character but those assists with Haggar only seem like they are there to help him control the screen or protecting him as he goes in.
has anyone explored his air to air jumping headbutt? it seems to have weird ground bounce properties similar to hawkeyes net arrow.
Not sure about a ground bounce, but since vanilla it has caused a knockdown that he can OTG from with moves that normally don’t OTG like c.M.
Have video of that? I’d like to explore more as that sounds like a newsletter I’d subscribe to.
No, but an easy way for you to test this is to go into training mode, set ‘counterhit’ to ‘on.’ set dummy to ‘jump’ and ‘autoguard’, you’ll see if you hit him with a jump headbutt you can OTG with c.m dp+l or something. similarly, if you leave them standing and counterhit headbutt them, you’ll see they can go into a dizzy state. this also applies to counterhit headbutting assists.
I know about standing dizzy, it’s the special OTG state I was having my doubts on. If so, this significantly will decrease my use of jumping pipe for a better opportunity.
I like jump headbutt because it’s not as telegraphed in closer ranges and on certain characters you can instant overhead, others you can frame trap w/ j. headbutt falling j.headbutt. but then again… im not that good lol
Zero can eat dicks. Seriously, fuck that character. Seems Haggar can’t do much except get a lucky lariat.
If you’re not that good I’m likely worse than you. I’m still doing the vanilla day 1 Haggar combo because none of my assists can carry after the OTG.
And yeah, Zero is… yeah. Against him, there are no lucky Lariats.
As long as zero doesn’t hit me with a ToD(hasnt happend yet), I really dont find him to be that bad of a match up. Zero just does his thing with his long ass combos but eventually he will slip up and try one of his air teleport mix ups(whatever the hell its called) and that is when I lariat and that tiny bastard is dead. I liken it to a mosquito who is biting the hell out of you, its annoying, but eventually he will get cocky and suck some blood for too long than WHAM all that is left is a bloody splotch. Also, I find online that if I just wait and block, eventually they will throw some unsafe move out and I can tag them with a s.L into a full combo. Pipe when they air dash is decently effective too. Of course all of this is my experience online, none of my friends play zero well enough.
Hatman- what is your team? You should have at least 1 assist that can help you otg in my opinion.
I posted it up there but I’ll repeat it : Haggar (Lariat) / Chris (Gun Fire) / Strider (Vajra).
Chris does have an assist that allows me to OTG without problems (Grenade Toss) but I’d rather use Gun Fire for it’s help in getting me in. Unless you tell me that Gun Fire does help out with OTG and I’m just an idiot for not seeing it.
I knew you had posted it somewhere but I only checked this page(oops). So to redeem myself I have found you this…

I was looking at a few of bums videos and I can only find him using chris to otg after an air throw. There was a discussion about chris in the assist thread but I couldnt find anything conclusive in my quick look around. Someone more knowledgeable about chris than I am can hopefully give you a better answer.
Gun Fire is actually pretty good at allowing OTG follow ups once you get the timing down. You have to call Chris immediately and then wait a bit before doing c.H. Early on in combos you can follow with f.H, S but later on you have to empty cancel the pipe into L hoodlum (this may be corner dependent). The timing is strict after command throws but is possible.
Edit: Like OlDirtyBastard said, check out Bum, he does it fairly consistent.
It’s probably the same timing as with Frank Shopping Cart but with less pushback. If so, I got this down and I should have explored more, sorry. It’s also possible to get Strider in with Vajra but it doesn’t lead to anything interesting.
Also, is the Hoodlum reset in the corner still a thing? I’m kind of out of the loop.
Yes, it is still a thing, and inescapable by most of the cast except for hypers like Hard Drive, Ultimate Web Throw, and according to ER.MCZ Richard Nguyen if you time the s.A low enough (like right before they hit the ground) it will beat all techs, airdashes, teleports etc except for Nova’s up back and the invincible air hypers I mentioned.
Yes the Hoodlum reset is still good. I was just messing around with Striders Vajra can you can use it to set up a reset with it.
I did c.L, c.M, f.H xx M Axe, M xx L hoodlum, j.M, j.M, j.H, pipe, land, dash and call Vajra, S, Vajra hits, c.M xx H hoodlum. If timed right it should beat all techs, didn’t try against airdashes or double jumps. s.L and s.M also work but lost to neutral tech. It should work for other combos its just a matter of figuring out which normal to use for the reset.
You can just airdash down to escape the hoodlum launcher reset. Its literally that easy for airdash characters since ADD’s are so fast. Maybe Trish and Dorms would be too slow in a perfect set up, and I haven’t really tested it out, but against Magneto and Doom all anyone ever does against me once I tell them how to escape it is airdash down. Thats fine with me because you still get amazing oki, but yeah.
Obviously not every character has an airdash or knows about that though, so I still use it all the time (especially online. Dear god, it is OP as fuck online).
I should have said that its situational, not something to rely on. Yes every character with an air dash can get out of most (if not all) H hoodlum resets. The thing is, the characters with the most life don’t have it, except for Thor. Those are the characters you should be doing it against. I think Haggar players as a goal should try to build teams that can ToD but I understand not every team can and sometimes you would rather not waste the meter so its still something good to know.
