The maximum posts per page used to be adjustable as 100. Now it’s non-adjustable and only as 20. That’s just unacceptable as year 2011.
The profile/setting page crashed my browser (Safari 5) on the first try.
Also, I’ve had a hard time creating this new thread. When I click on the new thread button, it gave me a blank page or incomplete pages like 6 times . Only after the multiple tries it finally works.
And look at this stupid green font features (auto-hyperlink(?)) that can’t be turn off just because I copy and paste an address.
Who the F in their right mind switch to this POS APOCALYPSE disastrous forum software when better examples are just about EVERYWHERE. If you feel the need to deploy a new software, at least have more testing and do it after EVO. Please switch it back before worse things happen.
You can’t with Xenforo, not on a user level. It’s just an admin side, site wide setting. I don’t like this personally but over in Xenforo apparantly it’s much safer to have it this way… 60 posts per page is definitely alot better though Wiz, cheers.
Mr. Wizard has increased the maximum thread to 60, however the maximum posts per page is still at 20. Please Mr Wizard turn it up to at least 60 or preferably a 100. It’s not uncommon for the other sites to have maximum of 200. This is not year 1999 where 3 quarters of the country still using dial-up/AOL, and where the forum maximum posts was default to 10.
A low default (like 10/20) will result in SRK server dealing with 2/3 times more requests for new pages. Very inefficient.
Gah, I wish this was user configurable. Please don’t increase it past 60. It makes the pages take longer to load and discussions harder to follow IMHO.
I’d like this lowered as well, but it seems like we have two split camps here. The current setting isn’t perfect but I’m far happier with it than if it was bumped to 100. 100 would be overload. I wasn’t even aware people browsed the boards like that.
Well, it’s pretty useful if you want to read a whole thread for whatever reason. I did it too sometimes, when I had to catch up with hundreds of replies.
But for normal use anything more than 40 is overkill by far. IMHO the perfect number is 30, though. Enough to not feel claustrophobic, not enough to wait 3hrs for the page to load.
The reality is, I came to SRK maybe twice a day. Often I got busy in life and won’t come here for 3 days. It’s not uncommon to have 60-80 posts a day in the regional. More posts per page means less page load and much easier to follow back story. It’s especially helpful in the tech forum.
Some regionals, and maybe some old thread, have like 6000 posts in it. More posts per page means it’s being more organized. It’s not pretty to have to goto PAGE 583 thru PAGE 592 to find that one local gathering information that was posted 2 days earlier.
To those why said 60 posts/page is too long and take 3 hrs to load. Loading a few more ascii characters doesn’t take any bandwidth (<1KB). It’s the backbone of the entire page (javascript, flash) that takes up bandwidth.
Like someone above mentions, I’d rather have 50 per page for ‘symmetry’ (50-100-150 etc), for the sake of being organized (thousand posts = 20 pages). But I guess the incredible Xenforo can’t do it (multiple of 20) lol.
Yet, on the other side, we people who visit the forum every day don’t like having the log of the last 3-4 days visible and have to scroll down for hours to get to the latest posts…
I think 40 is good as a compromise, anyway.
