"Maximum Brofist" The Kanji Thread

because it’s not easy enough to keep distance, backdash, hop, jump or do any invincible move right?
roll is just too abusive (in general, it’s imo too good)

Does it really work that well? Rolls are punishable by normal grabs at any point during the roll so why do they work against Kanji’s?

they work against his command grabs; that’s the point. his normal throw is also the slowest in the game and not a good option up close.

Rolls working against Kanji’s command grabs is super silly and should get patched out. And I’m saying that as a Naoto player. :expressionless:

Evasive action doesn’t actually ignore command grabs. Try it out in training mode, you can grab them out of it with his normal command grab or his super. However it seems like if they do it quick enough and/or you miss-time it they can roll past the grab’s hit box or something.

So I’ve found some good strategy worth mentioning for the characters in this game with really good backdashes if it hasn’t been stated already. A lot of the skilled rushdown players will use their backdash to keep you at their advantageous neutral range where all your normals get beat due to slow startup. I’ve clutched out several wins now using B Cruel Attack or SB Cruel Attack when they’re playing cautiously on low life and backdashing after coming in and me blocking. SB version tracks, and its safe on hit or block which will hopefully set you up for a combo or command throw. Its also just a good way to get in sometimes when your opponent is expecting a slow jumping B or a slow 5C or 2C from neutral range.

I really do need to use the neutral Cruel Attack more often. I even practiced a bunch of awesome combos utilizing them but I practically never try and throw them out in an actual match.

Though not the best option you can always normal throw into cruel attack or with meter OMC into 2C…

I really like throwing in a random cruel attack to get in, but just need to work on knowing my ranges. SB Cruel attack like you mentioned is a great option and worth the meter just to get in. Ive had situations though that even SB Cruel Attack as gone over my opponent maybe due to them dashing in or bad spacing on my part.

I throw out cruel attack all the time in my matches. Good to keep pressure and it’s safe if you know your ranges.

I’m having some trouble landing j.A, j.B, j.A, j.B xx j. 214+A consistently (opponent techs out mid-combo). It only seems to work after an air counter hit 5A, 5A.
Is there a better aircombo for Kanji, or am I just not getting the timing down?

I’ve been having the same problem actually. I can do it like 99.9% of the time in training, but I seem to drop it almost every time in a match. It could just be that I’m being sloppy, but I’m wondering if there’s any positioning issues that I’m not seeing that would screw up the timing.

I do know that the second jA, jB won’t hit in every combo though. Sometimes you have to leave it out. Also, I’m pretty sure you want to be ending that with j.214 B, since it does more damage.

I really hate Yukiko’s DP, more on this later.

EDIT: School has not been kind this week so sorry for late reply. The problem with her DP I’ve found is I don’t know how active the hitbox for the push attack is, but I do know its completely projectile and grab invincible as long as they’re holding BD. Even if I’m DPing on their wakeup (which usually beats most other DPs,) I can’t beat it. I think the best things you can do here are meaty attacks where kanji’s hitbox is far from his body. So 2A and 2B (while slow) might be good choices when you know they’re going to DP. Sweep seems iffy but that may also work. I’ll have to work this out tonight.

a slight delay after the first j.b was my problem with the positioning, maybe your guys problem as well? the j.a actually has a pretty deceiving hitbox though

also how do you guys decide which fatal counter combo to use off of j.c? it seems like if you’re too close you cant do 5c > 2c > 5b > 2b because it will miss… does it work if you 5a first at close range? the normal air combo one is easier to land obviously but doesnt do as much damage

I’ve switched my j.C combo because of that. Instead of 5C > 2C I just run up and do 2B > 5C. The damage is basically the same for me, but it’s more consistent.

My FC 5C always seems to hit when I’m out of 2C follow up range, will I have enough time to run up and 2B?

2B has deceptively long range. It should be able to connect at any range that j.C would place you. Although at max range you might consider 5C/2C, since it only seems to be a problem if you’re too close.

Hey guys, I haven’t had a lot of time to play lately, and any scrap of time I do have I’m either doing offline casuals working on my Chie or playing 3rd strike with my roommate (hey, its a good game.) But I wanted to say I’m going to Capitol Fight District this weekend and I intend to fully rep Kanji. Also maybe I’ll be able to get some 1v1 with somebody like Pain and have them point out the holes in my game.

Good luck, kanji all day!
