Nah, he came to a convention cause he’s like a spokesman for soundblaster headphones. Alex Valle, and Justin Wong were there too, none of them actually participated in the local though. Valle and the guy who got first (the gief I lost to) played a long set though, and the gief got wrecked. Its ridiculous how the skill disparity was.

Just fought a really good Zangief and was able to win convincingly with one major change to my gameplan: After every single sweep, dash up, LK gflip divekick. Holy shit that blows Gief up.
That setup was already posted by phunksim. There are also followups to it depending on what you land. Look up his post.
Yeah I know just affirming it to be true. Was excited to turn around such a difficult match up for me :-p
Does the set up that you guys are referring to allow for front side Dive Kick to beat EX SPD??? IIRC if you dive kick too late, Geif Can trade with lariat and then hit you again before you hit the ground. If you do it too low then EX SPD avoids dive kick per it’s invincibility start up.
I know about hitting him backside per cross up to avoid the spd and front side options, but aside from GF Grabbing him in the front… how is the dive kick in this set up stuffing lariat AND not getting caught by EX SPD if it’s landing in the front??
Is there some sort of grey area I’ve been overlooking all of this time??
Is it a guaranteed hit if I g. Flip kick gief dead center on his lariat, no matter when he starts it??
If you time it right, yea. Gief’s lariat is 4 fr hit invincible throughout, but he is never unthrowable during any of those frames. If you time the flip throw meaty, then it will beat both lariat and EX SP IIRC
Timings will vary which is why training mode can’t demonstrate w 1 player and flip throw loops all in 10 secs…
HAVE Y’ALL HEARD THE WORD ON FAR ST FIERCE?! DEK09 BEEN PREACHIN IT, I AIN’T LISTENED… TILL NOW. MAINTAIN THAT GOOD FOOT SPACING AND SLAP THE SHIT OUTTA BEAR HUGGING BASTARD. AMAN? AMAN! HALLELUJAH
Yeah. St.mk > st.hk > f.st.hp…rinse repeat. EX tatsu his jumps and don’t sleep on cr.mk > tatsu to punish blocked ex green hand but note that it can whiff only if he is at the very farthest of ex green hand reach.
It’s still a shit show if he knocks you down and knows how to pressure wake ups.
Hi everyone
I use to bump heads with snakeeyes on live these are the main tools I make sure I don’t forget
Standing mk and d.lk and rh sweep are the best pokes to keep him out
When he has no ex start spamming fireballs
Never let him jump in always ex hur kick to reset the distance
Mp fireballs
One of the best moves vs geif is demon flip throw. Geif cannot lariat this… I learned to use this during footsies and since the throw puts u on the other side it can get u out of the corner… Use it on geif wake ups etc the only time lariat will hit is if u miss the throw then the match is over. Ever since I learned this I believe this fight is in goukens favor now… During fights with snakeeyes when he realized I was getting free damage he had to change his game plan and this will create more openings for you
Hope this helps!!!
back dash also changes the gameplan. …all depends how well that first flip leads tothe second
st. mk and mp fireball are pretty good in this matchup. mp fireball can reach a standing gief from almost a fullscreen away. st mk can hit anything from a regular jump in distance against gief. i really hate this matchup because once he gets in, you have bad options to get out and you end up panicking and doing stupid mistakes from dat pressure.
Crouch lariat on wakeup can mess with flip throw…
Agreed. If you know they’re using that method delay the throw to as late as possible and that shuts that down.
That is correct that’s why u don’t get predictable and don’t rely on this. It’s more of showing the geif player hey I beat the lariat for free.
and its a fun display at that…beats all but backdash and u2unless you ambig the fuck out of it…which is also G shit
one question here, since that big bastard like to jump a lot and he needs to get in to make some damage, should i pick ultra 1 or 2, because when i saw the louffy vs snake eyes match up in europe that made me realize something and i always use ultra 2 for hado/ultra confirm, but i barely do it, so any thoughts???
I get fb/u2 way way more than I’ve ever been able to aa u1 gief on reaction.
