So if I see Seth go for his stomach which I’m assuming is the startup of TE, I have time to sweep or jump in? If this is true, then I need to work on my own reactions. I have definitely realized I limit myself to certain counter move opportunities that I know I can hit 90% of the time or better, like baiting a jump in and punishing with ex tatsu, while letting other punishable situations go because I either don’t have the best reactions or have been punished too many times for trying. I have definitely swept Seth in TE startup before but it never seemed like anything other than prediction and luck.
My win-loss to Seth is 5-5, maybe even better, but it’s always a hell of a fight. His divekick and crossup hk(?) mixup is a whole other ball of wax…and I still get killed by full screen meaty sonic boom > teleport behind. I’m pretty sure I need to block away from his body but this only seems to work if he tries to hit me before the sonic boom hits…and then the player could always vary the timing of the teleport or his attacks themselves…or am I completely wrong about this? Maybe focus backdash…
yo climax…watched a recent post of you vs chun and I cant help but ask about your internet settings and related hardware…
many of the exchanges had you guys up close but when I was thinking ok here it comes your gouken seemed behind in frames , great positioning but losing many of them if only by a second or so.
Several of your ideas should have worked or at least I thought they were good i.e: fdash>sweep on chuns nj normals, she lands and sweeps u before yours comes out…small example only.
idk bro I have trouble believing , given your playstyle that so many inside sweep range strats fell short in that match…
so I ask router, isp , port settings, and are u on a hardline or wifi adapter?
Yes, I find that the internet connection I have is pretty weak. I use wifi and am pretty illiterate about port settings and such. I lose a lot because I’m getting behind in frames and end up counterhit. Can’t tell you how frustrating it is to correctly read sweep and move to use kongo and the shit just DOES NOT HAPPEN! Even if I blocked I’m still just yelling at the screen which just gets me nowhere. It’s like…I know I am playing better than what’s happening on the screen, and sometimes its embarrassing to be such an active member here and online and not have the points/vids to show it. I’m not the best Gouken but I consider myself up in the top players, at least at the bottom of that group. When the net is being good to me and buttons actually do what I want, I DO represent properly.
I use optimum online which is supposedly a good net service, I use a motorola modem connected to a linksys g wifi router. I’m assuming my port settings are default since I’ve never touched them nor knew any reason why I should…I suppose I could run an ethernet cable to my PS3 from my router (about 50 feet away with two walls in between) but it’s a pretty demanding job involving holes in walls that my wife would not appreciate. Moving the modem is not really an option.
BTW: Where did you see the match? I’d like to watch it.

Go to XBOXLIVE.COM and search port settings - you will receive instructions from there how to configure your routers port settings…
with a PC on your network type in this address: 192.168.1.1 then i think a login screen comes u:admin , p:admin this is your router config page per the xbox live instructions.
this opens the communication ports you will regain your pride after you do this …i loved it after i did minessis
Yeah, ummmm…so I found about 3500 pages of information about setting port forwarding for SF4 using my linksys settings, I even got as far as logging into the linksys settings page for my router and trying to punch in the numbers for the ports…then I am told that it’s not happening by my computer…because I don’t really know what the hell I am doing. I don’t know what the tech gurus are talking about with static ip addresses and whether I’m supposed to be making/using one for the PS3…I’m afraid I’ll change something and lose all connection…I’m going to open a thread about this topic instead of derailing this thread anymore
I cant remember the exact setup but when Seth is full screen, does boom and its right on your wakeup then teleports? Tricky because he can teleport in front of you also and not behind. For kongo you have to input as if you’re on the opposite side. Its weird because kongo absorb box is front and back for us so you would think that you should be able to do regular inputs. I kept getting hit then combo’d so I tried the inputs backwards (palm inputs) and it works like a charm.
I dont think so but not totally sure. He only teleported in front once and I chose not to kongo that one. The thing is with Sim, I kongo the correct way and when he teleports behind he still gets hit. You do it with Seth though and it doesnt work, you have to do it reversed. Its the craziest thing ever I swear. Oh and its after U1…they U1 are full screen and do the boom. But Souchan may be onto something - I wonder if we do b,f,b,f and push the button on wake, will that cover both directions? Looking at it on paper I would venture to say yes but I would need to test. Haha, this glitch may come in handy.
Yeah, same principle but if he goes front, you ex tatsu and miss? Hahaha, ex dp, ex tanden, cr.hp-dp, into stomps and then the 70-30 guess LOL. I stick with trying kongo because trying to block the correct way is just too risky lol
Doing that won’t work. You’ll get a palm. Defeats the purpose of auto-correct. You need to do the motion as you see a teleport, then press your buttons when he starts to reappear.
Hmmm…it should work that you get flip frontside and tatsu if he goes behind…either way it shouldn’t miss. I think trying to kongo has gotten me killed too often and trying to block is just as bad. Of course, so is ex flip against anyone who knows anything about Gouken. The tatsu will hit him out of teleport recovery so that’s the one I really want.
Seth makes it clear that Gouken needs an upgrade. Being able to do these massive punishes means squat against these types of characters in the right hands, even if they only have 750 hit points. Not talking about your everyday Seth player, but when the competition gets real, it’s clear.
You’re absolutely right. Both about the tatsu and the competition at a higher level. Tatsu if he goes in front…I just personally dont use it because tatsu puts him at full screen and I dont like that. I like Seth up close or at least within f.st.mk range. Once they get U1 you cant throw fireballs anymore if at a long distance like that. And it seems if you blow on Seth he has ultra.
And again, you’re right about the competition. I play these Seths online and destroy them because of the low health but I’ve played Seths that I couldnt even touch before. I regularly beat TommyGunssz but is it me or does that guy suck? I mean, he’s good…but not really if that makes any sense at all. He plays just slightly above flow chart Seth and doesnt really have any good mixups. But I’ve seen him beat the snot out of Yeb and a few other top players so I dont know whats up with that. But on the flipside I had a set a looong time ago with this guy who is #6 and we went 60/40 - him. The ONLY reason I was able to keep up with him was because of the low health. If we had the same hp I wouldnt have won a match. He was always on point, had mixups that I had never seen before from anyone. Maaan he had this setup in the corner to where he would do legs, then do only 3 stomps (wouldnt do the dive kick afterward which puts you in a hkd state) and then jump of the wall back to the other side of the screen…do a boom and it puts you at the PERFECT knockdown state for the boom to put you in crazy block stun. While the boom is over you on your wakeup he was off the wall from his side coming with a dive kick. Man…I dont know where he came up with it but, sickest setup ever. He could dive kick into more pressure with you in the corner, empty jump into SPD, teleport into SPD because if the block stun…I could go on. And he mixed it up every single time. I couldnt even kongo. I got one kongo off one time and hit him but just from that point on he would delay the dive kick or stop it early. All that to say, I feel you man…once the comp gets stiffer Gouken doesnt compare to Seth in the slightest.
This is one of my best victories. I usually get beaten by this guy so it felt pretty good to beat him. Any tips or advice would be greatly appreciated!
