How could you possibly think I was being insincere? This is just text and you don’t know me. Surely it’s not possible to infer tone and subtext from the words used.
okay lets not beat around the bush.
I’m sorry I did you a favor, and I’m rarely sorry for helping people.
I promise to never do it again.
Happy?
Sounds good to me. Your price of admission isn’t worth it to me, that’s for sure.
Maybe you’re on to something here, Veserius. I have found the MP Palm to be quite reliable too, so I will just wait for the opponent to show up that can make me question that punish.
and yeah i fucking hate blanka too… especially the electricity which takes up so much space, and recovers before u can throw a fireball. the best punish at close range is cr. lk even though visually a cr. hk should easily nail that nuisance
Veserius: Thanks for the explanation and visual. I remember seeing that previously from a post some time ago by you. My question is regarding the Blanka player. How does he control hitting with the correct hitbox and how do I detect that; because as far as I can tell it appears that the correct hitbox depends on the rotation of the ball as Blanka is hitting. Am I correct in that? If so, then it would make sense to me that doing ex ball correctly would be space dependent.
Blanka player has a couple of options.
Exact spacing. Using a normal string and a cancel to put himself in the correct spot. Or he can kara cancel a jab to space himself into the right spot.
The thing is different parts of the ball are safe so there are multiple ranges he can ball from and be safe.
Blanka has very little to ex ball Gouken though other than a chipout, punishing a fireball, or doing an fadc combo though.
I see. I don’t think very many Blanka’s are aware of your knowledge or how to employ it. Baiting an ex ball has become a bit of an art form for me. Don’t get me wrong, aggressive Blanka’s that know how to blow up crouch techs usually destroy me anyway.
I’ve been begging on here for a while for someone to explain in super simple form how to attack Blanka’s wake up but I get mostly vague explanations. If I could understand and employ that after knocking him down, I would feel better about this match up. Unfortunately, right now my best efforts involve baiting Blanka and trying to space myself to make his stuff unsafe or whiff. When Blanka has ex (which is always), my attempts at safe jumping him or hitting meaty get torn up by ex up ball even though I’m employing the same strategies that work on people like DeeJay and Yun.
Blanka gets up 2 frames slower than other characters so you want to use different safejump timing.
Safejumping upball, and then doing a delayed os that beats both rainbow and backdash is solid. I think gouken is supposed to do walk forward st.hk to beat both.
what the FUCK is this shit with cr. jab missing on blanka? i jumped with LK and comboed to cr LP, and followed with another cr. LP, and the second one missed. blanka often mashes buttons so NATURALLY i got knocked down instead. really good stuff. great game.
i’m going to take this up with god-damn Seth Killian, i think.
this isn’t fine.
I’ve had this 2 times quite recently too, it is quite annoying as it’s an opening for Electricity or allows them to start blocking, neither is good.
Blanka has a weird hitbox both standing and crouching. The crouching one is very tiny, and the standing one is huge at his legs. This means that certain combos only don’t work/do work on him.
This actually means that a lot of characters have a character specific combo against standing Blanka that does more damage than any of their other combos(Honda, Cammy, Even Blanka himself), while they are somewhat limited on him comboing him while crouching.
Also for reference this is an incomplete Blanka combo chart if you want to talk about stuff working/not working.
Character specific stuff is just the nature of fighting games.
go to training and set blanka to crouching, and go point blank and repeat cr. lp, and the second one will whiff about half the time.
lol…
this is 100% bullshit and 0% character specific, as “character specific” presumes some sort of strategy or counter-strategy. this is something that just doesn’t work, and it’s the absolute most basic on things.
it might as well have been sweep that didn’t work, and u could call it char specific. but it wouldn’t be acceptable to me, and i think u may see my point.
Also if blanka is mashing elec in your strings, you need to be doing frame traps to huge counterhit combos to dissuade him.
i don’t really need tips, but thanks…
btw Black Toof, standing jab will hit him once too, but the second will also whiff.
what’s odd though is that full combos with HK tatsu will usually hit. i don’t think i ever dared to try…
if that’s how it is and the visual cues have next to nothing to do with the actual hit boxes, then it would be helpful with a minute of training mode before every game, exclusive to gouken
I play Blanka.
You will probably disregard my opinion now because I don’t play Gouken.
no
thanks for the inputs, but i was in an irritated mood…
jabs don’t combo reliably if u chain them, but if u link the second jab it might work.
better than that is probably to just go with cl. MK after the first jab/cl. lk as it can combo. careful not to be out of range, tho…
Have you tried 1 jab and then lp.kongo? I’m not sure if this works 100% against elec. either since it can be a reversal, and will of course get blown up by ball.
While looking at the chart, and reflecting on other character specific combo guides I’ve seen for characters like Akuma, Abel, Sagat, Bison…etc, I have realized that Gouken is one of those characters that nearly all combos work on in nearly all situations. My opponent doesn’t really need to worry that super awesome frame trap death combo # 4 will whiff on hit number 3 if Gouken is crouching. Most likely, it will work. Meanwhile, Gouken’s BnB ex punch dash hk tatsu is character specific whether it will work. Sure, ending with hp palm or sweep is available but is less damage and stun. Then you have Blanka whose wonky hurtbox is pretty much a built in defense against a ton of moves. It’s just silly. It would make more sense that Hakan have weird boxes because he’s covered in oil. Speaking of, after recently playing a very, very good Hakan that I beat once in like 25 matches, I see a lot of similarities in shape, stance, attacks and I have a whole new respect for him as a character. His focus- normal cancel and air to air hitboxes are beastly.
yeah you can almost not trump him in the air.
I don’t like that idea I’ll try to remember to just do a LP and then cr. LK, or something… better safe than frustrated and really ticked off >:( hehe…
