I live in The Bahamas (NYC timezone) and I usually don’t get home till like around 9 - 10pm est. If thats cool, then yea we can do a few rounds although I am not a perfect Adon and I seem to be in need of a new controller.
Anyways let me go over that last match I posted then. Take note guys if you have not watched the video yet, then do so. Then restart it but pause it and follow along as I will be refering to the video.
Not trying to be funny but one of the things that a Gouken player should not show is fear, especially to Adon. Once you start showing that you are afraid of your opponent, you are doomed to fail. With that said, the Gouken here disobeyed that rule. The first 4 moves of the Gouken player were fireballs. While the first two connected, the second fireball was the most critical one since it scored Gouken the knockdown and knocked Adon out of the air. At this point, Gouken could have done anything, step back for more spacing, go in closer for mix ups but he chose to wait where he was, which I have no problem with. What I did have a problem with was fireball 3 being thrown on Adon’s wake up. The chances that fireball would be blocked was high as it was and fireball 4 thrown hoping that Adon would block again proved to give Adon the opening he wanted to open a can of whoop ass. As we all know Adon wont be stopped by fireballs and reliance on your fireball game will only work if you are reacting to the Adon’s movements. What I mean is that you have to look at how far the Adon is from you and think of what could he really do to attack you. Okay now after the Adon gets knocked down pause the screen. Yes I mean you pause it at 0:29. See that distance? Adon is far and the only tool he has right now to get close to you is Jaguar tooth. Ex Jaguar kick might just hit however Adon has no ex bar meaning that his tooth is not invunerable to fireballs. You wont be able to react to tooth with a fireball (unless you got good reaction) but you can prepare to avoid it and counter appropriately or just nuetral jump and tatsu outta there. He should have waited to thrown fireball 4. If he had, it might have saw the jump in and knocked Adon back down, keeping him out.
So Adon got in started tearing down the doors, taking apart the walls and destroying everything like a hurricane. However the Gouken was apparently crouch teching expecting the throw but missing the actual opportunity to get Adon off him. In video 1 it happened at 1:05-1:06 go look. Some of Adon’s crossups could have been avoided if he realized when it was his opportunity. By just blocking and crouch teching he took chip, he ate combos and at the end when he just jumped up, he died.
So go to 1:25. Lets say you do get Adon pushed back out, did you remember to check which ultra he is carrying? If U1 why fireball spam or at least obvious fireball spam? You spam fireballs, Adon will own you so at least if you are going to use them, be smart about them.
I gotta get to work but these are the main 3 things I saw wrong with that match from Gouken’s perspective.
ex tatsu his jag kicks on reaction.
it’s pretty awesome.
Excuse me, I’m sitting here with my WTF! face on!
Watch this video & and skip to around 5.25.

Someone explain to me how Yang focused that EX Jaguar Kick!
EDIT: Rewatching it, It must be because it’s an airbourne one?
Yes. Airborne JK is not armour break.
So we can Parry Airbourne Jaguar Kicks too.
Sorry for the noobness there, i didn’t know.
I’ll take openings where i can ^-^
Not quite.
There are frames where you whiff. It will hit if you do it early through mid, and whiff if he is just getting his feet on the ground, then hits again at the end.
EDIT: I’ve gotten much better at this matchup. One of the things that helped is the EX tatsu on reaction though it is still really painful when it whiffs.
Another is to pretty much throw out fireballs like I just don’t care, until I see them actually use EX jaguar tooth or whatever.
st.mp after blocked Jag kicks as well to stuff the next one or stuff a normal depending on distance, can be linked to sweep on CH.
After jaguar tooth you can jump back and lose ground with HK and stuff his jump and avoid the mix up but you will lose to up-knee. Kongo beats knee and attack, loses to throw and not sure about a jump attack, you may be able to kongo again. Also try st.mp or cr.lp depending on distance after block.
Jump back or Ultra will beat EX tooth. Haven’t really tried NJ.
st.mk at mid range to discourage jaguar kicks.
i played against my buddy’s adon last night and got annihilated.
when i was waiting to ex tatsu his jag kicks, he’d throw me.
when i was teching, jag kicks.
it was pretty horrible.
it occurred to me that adon felt a lot like bison, except with armor breaks all day.
This is yet another in the long line of bad match ups for Gouken.
Spacing is key, but the specifics are not clear to me. You can make the Jag kick go over you if you are in the right position and dash forward and MAYBE catch him off guard.
He’s almost free to abuse on wake up, his knee is easily beat with safe flip kick.
Bait his ultra and kill.
i forgot about how good jumping back and attacking is in this fight.
it’s safe and beats jag kicks and jag tooth.
Bullcat is at about 7mins30 secs. Interesting approach, he kind of plays possum and lets Adon feel confident and then pulls the switch.
The first round looks a lot like most of my rounds with Adon. Even when I know that EX Jag Kick is coming I get hit by it

That match looks sorta like when Wildcat815’s Hakan fights anyone good. Like hes losing the whole time, then you see KO suddenly and Wildcat is still standing. Interesting how he tries to keep adon at jaguar kick range and back dash sweeps it… he has a rough time keeping that range and backs himself into a corner but does a decent job getting around adon without getting hit too bad. Good demonstration of how to win a bad matchup.
jagga kicks- cr. lk lets you escape the lk version (and EX if he’s right on top of you), the lk one has the most range. However cr. mk, st. mk, and surprisingly st. lp and cr. lp all beat this move. All versions. I tried giving him the dudley treatment and spammed jabs to prevent him from rushing in with it and it works. J. mp also almost always beats out his jagga kicks if he’ spamming them.
jagga tooth- st. hp beats this if you can press it when he hits the wall. Heres something else I found out… if he does jagga tooth and you have Denjin… activate it as soon as he comes off of the wall and Denjin hits him EVERYTIME!!! Even the EX Version that should be immune to fireballs get’s hit. I’m assuming it has something to do with Gouken’s invincibility on start up. If you activate denjin before he flashes Gouken gets hit.
Adon rushdown is so obnoxious and the late starting frames of his srk blow up my crouch techs. He really throws me off my game. I find safe jumping him is really questionable and punishing that damned jaguar kick is a crapshoot. His grab is friggin sticky like Bison’s, too. This is definitely one of my worst match ups.
I fight with no ex moves and save for super once u have super u can punish blocked ex jag tooth.
looking at the srk wiki, EX jag tooth is -5 on block.
Oops I mean ex jag kick can be blocked and punished by forbidden.
It’s more like -3 but can only be punished by the first frame of a reversal. If you want to test pick Ken and block the EX version and try to jab Adon ( I couldn’t get it to land so it’s not even close to -5). Now try blocking and when he hit you autoblock should kick in, now buffer/mash your dp it should hit him). You can do the same with cl . st mk with Gouken and using super. Maybe it’s -5 but the push back from the last active frames negates the disadvantage like spacing Goukens palm correctly, on another note cr. fp beats Jagga tooth pretty clean and consistently.
Wouldn’t the (dis)advantage on EX Jaguar Tooth be based on its height when you blocked it? Or is this one of those moves where it’s fast, as well as tracks and catches your boxes at the same height every time?
One thing I’d like to point out about this matchup is learn to tell when the Adon is TKing his Jaguar Kicks. You’ll get a different audio cue from the air version, and it can be Kongoed. The Adons I’ve run into that use this will do them right after a normal one, so it might be a way to lessen recovery on his end, or avoid startup time.
So I’m assuming correctly that there is less recovery on his air jaguar kick…because I don’t really see any other reason for Adon to use it.
