The only issue with that is that in order to get the 2 hits, they have to be on the ground. Which brings him back to his original problem, getting a srk to the face cuz once they hit the ground then can do another one. If he throws the st hk earlier he will hit them, but only one hit. So he’s better off doing a st HP, cr HP or sweep right before they land to guarantee some worry free punishment.
if you block an SRK, either punish with c. mk xx ST or sweep. No need to throw because a throw puts you so damn far away whenever you connect. Either of those options give you many mixup opportunities.
I always punish whiffed dp with cr. mp, light rcf. It’s not the best punish but it’s easy to get out fast. if you have ex bar i suggest cr. mp xx izuna drop. I always seem to whiff with my cr. mk xx scarlet terror that’s why i don’t use it.
Thanks for all the responses. Keep them coming.
cr.mk xx ST I don’t even use this combo except after j.hp because as said above, if you are not right next to the opponent, you can whiff the ST, not to mention, if they can dp cr.mp, I’m guessing the same for cr.mk. Seems a little dangerous at least for myself, but hey, that’s why everyone has their preferences right, what’s easily executable for him etc etc? Otherwise, it’ll be flowchart Vega O_O. I just hate everytime I do something to punish them then get DPed back and I always sigh to myself, should’ve known better, these freaking dp spammers.
A fun thing to do against dragon punch spammers is when you knock them down, start walking back a tad and then immediately start walking towards them as if you changed your mind and are now going to try and throw them / attack the second they wake up. Instead, your gonna hit Vega’s single back flip when you are right in front of them and they are waking up. Since they think your gonna go for an attack they will instinctively hit the dragon punch, you single back flip ,they whiff, you punish.
Its a great little fake out I use often.
I’ve tried cr. mp xx ST and it works more on the taller chars (Sagat, Seth), but yeah, it usually whiffs on Ryu unless you’re real close (same with using cr. mk). But if you use lp or lk xx ST, it works more consistently on Ryu (not as much damage, but more if you consider the ST doesn’t miss). I also remember seeing a video showing that EX ST reaches further so the combo could work with that.
I usually use cr mk->EX FBA to punish when they land because it works on the shorter characters (unlike cr mp->EX FBA), including that slumped over bastard Blanka. But with those lp DPs, I usually use do a cr. mp, or st mk, rather than risk getting hit by the followup dp. Its not much, but some damage is better than none.
I know its just bad execution on my part, but I still sometimes get the claw toss when I start from a jump in, or standing attack and try to combo into rcf.
yeah, you guys are right. Forgot about that detail. That’s wishful thinking from me of course, but yeah, c. mk does make the ST whiff. Substitute with c. lk. In that case it should always connect.
Another thing i love to do against dp spammers is stalling combos with hard links. One of my favorite Vega combos with no meter is J. hp crouch lp. crouch mp. light rcf problem is the link between crouch lp. and crouch mp. is really really tight so usually a jackass ryu or ken will spam off a dp in my link. So i just jump in they block the J hp. and the cr. lp than i wait for the more than spam happy ryu to do a DP. And punish him with whatever i feel necessary (with meter usually a cr. mp into xx izuna or without just the mp into light rcf). They usually think twice when interupting combos after that.
Actually I don’t find that link tight at all. The rhythm can be felt easily, it’s rather quick.
Cr.lp, cr.lk is a bit tight!
But yeah, waiting and baiting is absolutely necessary against those guys. At least every once in a while.
It could be the online lag but i have a lot of trouble doing it online. I can get 1 out of 3 which just isn’t enough. So i usually bait with it instead.

grosses mix up I ever done in my life enjoy my brothers! and sisters!
Nice man. That first round against akuma was pretty intense. I was getting nervous for you lol. I think you play vega pretty well. Pokes and run away to frustrate them. You use vegas mobility well. One thing you may want to practice is Izuna drops on a standing opponent. A few against akuma ended as FBA when you were really close to getting the grab. Maybe you are better with it and you got a lil nervous cuz it was a tourney. Nice Job tho.
Lol at the announcers calling piece of mercury an overhead
Oh yeah, I believe st. HK rapes Abel’s roll. If you see he throws it a lot, then just walk backwards and get ready to throw it out.
you can sweep instead, it’s way more meaty and gets you a knockdown
cool didnt know that. Sometimes if your lucky tho you can land 2 Hk’s in a row. But good to know both
Great mix up Vega man! And using the light scarlet terror to meter build, excellent!
A lot of people do that after a knock down or if your at full screen and the other person isnt moving switch between lk ST and KKK flip to keep you in the same spot.
If this doesn’t make you think Tatsu is the greatest Vega ever, and I mean better than Makoto…

p.s. Spanish commentary FTW!!!
yay! Spanish commentary! Finally something I can understand.
Yeah, Tatsu’s pressure game is something I envy.
Of course I was equally convinced that the other guy was a great fuerte.
