I actually thought your play against that Balrog was good, but it wasn’t the right style for that opponent. He was straight rushing you down and throwing punches the whole match, and you could have used that to your advantage. Unfortunately, by the time you realized it, it was probably to late. The biggest mistake was not taking it easy after huge combos and getting dizzied so fast, but that is something that can happen when your trying to take back momentum. But you could have held back a little bit more and made him play your game instead of trying to take it to him constantly. As to what some others have said, wake-up flipkick probably isn’t a good option against him, because you could see him waiting for it. He was patient on your wakeups so he was playing patiently when he needed to also.
Sometimes you just lose hands down. It seemed like you got the worst of some strong exchanges, but you didn’t make any humungous mistakes. Just take it easy next time and play the match at your own pace.
Be sure to use Roundhouse on EX dash (Thinking you know that though, and it was just an error). Focus is your friend if your feeling pressured. If you want to create some strong space, jump back fierce has amazing priority, and is basically a “I’m going over here, you stay back there.” type of move. No one can really fuck with it from a distance, it beats 90% of other characters in the air (jump-back strong beats damn near 100%) and will let you get the distance you need to get your dizzy down, or set the match back up to your pace.
It will also allow you to capitalize on people who are overly agressive, because they will try to keep coming at you, but they will not beat it.
Thanks for the comments, guys. Particularly for the Rog tips, Brento.
I’ll try using the jump back fierce as an escaping manoeuvre more often. I usually just use it as a mix up option on wake up and hadn’t really considered using it defensively. Also, I’ll try to take it easy next time someone rushes me down like that. Seeing myself hit st.mk in a panic when faced with that ex rush was pretty demoralizing…
all I suggest is way less flips and smarter anti-airs. Jump straight up fierce beats superman punch all day, but TKK did not know a couple key things about this match. I’m watching match 2 right now but in match 1 he didn’t punish a single kkk flip. A smart Zangief will definitely get you on those. Try to sneak in a scarlet terror once in a while (knock down w/ ST, FBA, izuna drop will beat a lariat) and be careful when you throw out the full screen jab RCFs too. Again, Zangief can EX Green hand (or focus like he did but backdashed out) and you will get raped.
Also make sure if you’re going to try jump out fierce (amazing against Zangief; but again, reversal EX Green hand is a free punish) to space them correctly so they don’t whiff so often. If you have the offensive on Zangief whiffing moves is a real disadvantage for you, caues then he bears down on you and…
Also if you have the life lead back off more. You were jumping in a lot which means free trade for Zangief if he wants it. Run away some more, you can realy get an FBA game going against Zangief despite lariat beating every FBA move on the surface. If ever the corner is in your sight, make it priority to GET THE FUCK OUT, bait a jump in from the gief and dash under / FBA out of the way, or air grab if you’re really dastardly.
But seriously, good shit, your pokes were great and you’ve got some good tricks.
"Actually I’m going to try Vega tomorrow… just because I’m interested in what they’ll give him in SSFIV"
BASTARD! :'D
Anyways. Joz is right, less flips would be better. Also, I would stop using j.b fierce that much and not jump in that much. ALTHOUGH I must say that Gief was a bit slow punishing those two so it didn’t really matter I guess.
0:56- 1:01 on second vid = LOL XDXDXDXD
You did a great job though. Good tricks and air to airs. I also like how you used j.mp off a triangle jump.
PS: Can anyone confirm if jab SPD can punish lp roll?
From the description, its probably the link for nicovideo that Tatsu had posted, but I wasn’t able to view it (even with that viewer Sasaki had linked) so thanks!
I don’t think I could personally pull those off, especially in an actual match, but still nice to see.
looool? How come I never knew all this shit?! You Bastarrrrdds
Is there any way to be able to hitconfirm that ultra setup? Also, is that jumpin st.hp, lk ST, EX ST viable damage-wise for a punish or a guaranteed hit jumpin?
Oh yeah, Blanka can Ultra you out of a blocked hp roll. So BE CAREFUL!
I can never get my RCF Focus Cancel to Crumple. Is the timing on it a one frame link like all of Vega’s other combos? I’ve also been trying to get Kara ST to work out. Not sure if it’s viable, but I figure anything that give Vega more range when he needs it is useful.
Just make sure you’re using counter hit. I’ve tried to make regular RCF to crumple to work before, but no dice. It doesn’t even combo if you let it out as a slightly charged level 1.
It has to be a counter hit, and, it has to be the claw stab, not the rolling, that is the counter hit.
There’s also some counter hit shenanigans you can do with meaty close fierce… If you get a counter hit on the second swipe, you can sweep, far fierce, far forward, crouching forward.
seems like you know that if you backdash cancel the focus and charge, it will hit outside the corner. But if someone’s in the corner it doesn’t really matter, the timing is much more lenient.
the matches vs fei were good ,pretty sure rcf is terrible against fei tho and the blanka punish was amazing but after that it had the commentary of akuma and vega if they were young school girls having a rape/cat sex contest. i’m not sure wth was happening lol
Claw v Fei was really good watch. Fierce RCF went unpunished almost every time…or was Strong RCF being used?
That Claw rarely held meter as he seemed to like throwing out EX FBA a bit beyond mid-screen (I like the idea, but a little closer would be even better).
s.RH (trade) > s.RH 3hits
EX FBA (trade) > juggle state (so probably sweep works)
? RCF (blocked) > s.RH netted CH very often
far s.LK  he got a response almost every time he tried to pressure with it…didn’t capitalize as he hoped though
df+RH (I was wondering if he would use throw bait EX FBA here, but his best attempt was nj.RH)
uf j.MK safe-jump
df.RH oki
The Fei began utilizing lvl1Focus to retaliate vs pokes. Outside of poke xx EX FBA, I think poke xx KKK backflip may be good to force whiffed FAs vs fishing. He was very confident in dealing with RH CW, but he ate some Rekkas for not respecting Fei’s advantage after low strong (maybe use EX FBA here or far s.LK or KKK flip or c.RH).
Claw player was lacking in regards to aa. Good play by both overall.
