Matador Video Thread

I made some mistakes, but the Gief player wasn’t familiar with how to play against Vega, so I wasn’t to concerned with getting up close. I could play a little looser and have it pay off. I did screw up on a lot of punishes that put me in bad positions where I could have gotten SPD’ed/Lariated.

I’ve seen the metering technique of short ST, KKK, but it doesn’t really seem that safe to me. I did use a lot of short ST to build meter. If there is another one I would like to hear about it also.

After watching those videos, I’ve learned a lot about better ways to go about fighting dhalsim. I also learned I need to get a lot more out of my punishes. A LOT MORE. I like to hold onto my EX bar however, since it is my primary way of changing up the pace of a match and one of my strongest offensive tools. Using it do just add a little more damage leaves me feeling like I have fewer options once the pace changes or they start turtling up.

Then use ST instead - no meter waste.

Yeah, you weren’t really concerned, but those mistakes made you lose the round. Things like Sky High Clawing a Zangief are bound to fail.

Anyways, regardless of your offensive options, you obviously do not want to be as close to Zangief AND in the corner as you were in 4:40 just because you don’t want to use an EX bar, which you used anyway a few secs later.

You clearly had a lot of chances to punish bigtime and the fact that you didn’t have to do it to win just shows me that you were either superior to those guys or they simply didn’t know the matchup.

Brento, nice to see an OCV with Vega.

I usually have trouble with all 3 of those characters, so it was cool to see you beat them, especially the Seth since there don’t seem to be a lot of videos with Vega vs. the console characters, and those stretchy arms (Seth and Dhalsim) can be a pain for someone without an srk-type move.

You can beat/trade with limbs by using ex fba. I know if you do it early, you beat them. Still trying to figure out the trade timing.

Nothing special, really. That last walldive I did was actually an ultra, which would have looked sick as fuck (you can even see my character wiggle for the motion right before I get that ghetto walldive ).

Also, cr.mk, cr.mp xx EX ST… oh Vega…

p.s. LI Joe represented team Empire Arcadia in the 5v5 during Barfights 2.

haha damn that ultra would have been sick bebop. I do hate when EX ST comes out instead of fba. Hows blanka working out for ya?

Hey guys I was requested to post some videos of a Vega player here, so…

Vega vs. Dan

^Thanks Chaos, much appreciated!

I was hoping to get some feed back from the forum, since there’s not a lot about Dan in the match-up thread, or about Vega in the Dan match-up thread. Also, I’ve been lurking for months and never had a video up.

Chaos is the best Dan I’ve personally played, and I think he provides a good example of what Dan can really do. Even though they do less damage, his krk has similar properties to an srk, and the lk knee is similar to Sagat’s, just with less damage and only 1 hit, but he can also do it in the air. Some sick ultra combos too.

There’s a few execution slip-ups on my part where you see me do a lp SCH, those were meant to be RCF. Not sure how much more helpful that would have been, but just wanted to point that out. Also, being about the same height as Ryu means that cr. mp–>EX FBA also misses Dan if he’s too far away.

Any criticism is welcome, preferably constructive.

My main tip: don’t be so anxious to attack.
As in, empty-jump once in a while, block on wake-up once in a while, and don’t throw out so many pokes randomly.

^Thanks

Hey you guys here’s another video of me in tournamentwars against Micky’d I tried my best another video coming up next week

Nicely done there, really! That is a good example of how you can run away with Vega. I especially loved when they said

“vega does not have that anti-ai- (focus backdashes)” “OH”

You should try to mix up the walldive sides. Can easiely confuse your opponent.
In your match each time you walldived Ryu was jumping back with HK. There is a good “one-timer” way to make them stop trying to AA it that way - SHC. Though not safe for everytime use,but you can trick your j.HK happy opponent with it,since it got the walldive scream in SFIV.

Hey Guys,

I created a combo video for Vega. You can find it here. It has notations for people who are just starting. Vega needs to be more recognized.

NeoRussell

^ Good stuff. The Vega community thanks you.

Okay, that special combo was known for a long time lol
At least I like to use it, without the EX Walldive, for obvious reasons. Those characters you tested it on… where were they on the screen? Did you test it with them crouching?

Great video, i really apreciate your work, Neorussell

Hey everyone. New to SRK, but I’ve been a long time lurker.

I have a small list of matches here:

Wins

vs Ryu

vs Gief

vs Abel

Losses

vs Cammy I’m at a loss for this match up. I suppose I should have spent more time blocking and punishing?

vs Dhalsim …man, got shut down.

vs Balrog this guy intimidated the hell out of me. Aside from blocking the overhead high, I’m not sure what else I could have done here.

Some c+c would be much appreciated.

Incidentally, there’s another Vega player in the list named ‘Van’. You can tell us apart because he tends to pick the alt costume while I don’t.

Vs Cammy: Keep wall dives to a minimum, even empty wall dives can be punished by her Cannon Spike. Most Cammy players will do a Spiral Arrow followed by a Cannon Spike. In between you can hit one cr.LP, then wait, player wiffs the Cannon Spike which you can punish with a scarlet terror, or whatever else you like. When the Cammy player has either their revenge or super gauge full, be wary of using Vega’s flip back as both of her special moves will punish it.

Also, learn to meet an opponents Focus Attack with standing.HK, rather then trying to get two cr.MP in. (From watching your video Vs Cammy)

Vs Dhalsim: I have problems against good Dhalsim players as well, mainly because it is a keep away game and you need to get in close to deal damage. My best recommendation is to play the waiting game, wait for your spots. Learn to see Dhalsims teleport attack coming. In this case you can do a neutral jump up and then punish with j.LK > cr.LK as you come down. Try and get the upper hand health wise and then keep your distance, make him come to you, this is when you have your best chance. Once he is close stay on him. Most Dhalsims will try and get back across the screen where he can control the game.

Vs Balrog: When playing an overly aggressive Balrog, try a quick wake up EX Scarlett Terror. When he does an EX charge meet it with a standing HK. When he does the over head jump in just block and keep blocking the string. You can’t anti air it with Scarlet Terror. You could focus dash back though but I prefer to just block the string. Once Balrog has revenge gauge full, be wary of the headbutt setup into Ultra. You could do a fake out in this case. For example, Balrog gets knocked down. Walk up to him as if to initiate the attack but right as he is getting up do a single flip back. He will wiff the wake up headbutt which you can then punish with standing HK. Just don’t jump in once his revenge gauge is full or your gonna get hit with the Ultra.

Hope this helps.

I like the match where Brento takes on the Gief player. His pauses after pokes were really smart, so he is obviously aware of something going on there (not having the advantage). I saw a CH s.MK though and am even more curious on what Claw can do off of various CHs. Will check it out a bit later, but I have lots of vids to watch. gs guys
