Great match man, you’re wake up game is 100x superior to mine.
yea man i got no idea what to do against fuerte
Knucklez, i’m disappointed. You almost look human :wgrin:
That rog was wack. You played great, though. That flip to ST you busted around 1:20 was definitely sick.
I made it to the Loser’s Bracket Semi-Finals and Finals at my university’s (UC Irvine) tourney.
Semi Finals:

Finals (part 1):

Finals (part2):

Highlights:
3:41-4:05 of first video:
Tense ending starting with a mistimed ultra. A clutch throw tech FTW!
1:22 - 1:24 of third video:
Epic vega ownz ryu moment! I’m thinking about screencapping this.
2:13 of third video:
LOL WHOOPS! I throw my claw away while in ryu’s face while I’m in a corner.
5:29 - 5:31 of third video:
Epic momentum-swinging moment number 2!
5:58 of third video:
I lose to a 1-frame link combo, at least he earned his victory.
Stop wall diving so god damn much…jesus christ lol
I prefer using lots of fake Flying Barcelona Attacks over footsie games. I am most comfortable when the opponent is half to full screen away where I just keep my eyes on my opponent while I do near-constant (subtle pauses here and there to add randomness) FBA’s. It also builds bar.
I managed to get through a whole tournament with my favorite tactic of constant Flying Barcelona Attacks of mixed up speeds.
I feel this works well as long as you have a feel for your opponent’s anti-FBA tactics (which are relatively limited for most characters: lp shoryuken, FADC). ALL VEGAS SHOULD LEARN HOW TO IZUNA DROP FOCUS ATTACKERS.
(I suck against opponents who are hardcore rusher/wake-up crossup approachers. I hate Vega’s lack of reliable reverals/anti airs… although I am a fan of wake up FADC backwards)
This was my first tourney and I got nervous, hence the many failed Izuna Drops like at 0:35 of the third video. Not to mention the Bloody High Claw that was wayyyy too late at 5:43.
I really feel like I can control the flow of the match with constant FBA’s.
Example: I got a feel for my opponent’s pace of shoryukens early and was able to squeeze my FBA past the shoryken at 0:53
I am very comfortable with the mechanics of the attack. I keep jumping towards toward wall until the timing is just right that I find myself jumping off the wall and the opponent is/will be open. These windows of opportunities are actually pretty frequent if you’re doing constant FBA’s.
What he said
ur really lucky that the Ryu didnt have much experience against Vega or he couldve used the wall dive’s recoveries with hadoken or combos , STAY ON THE GROUND MORE !
Could somebody show me a video demonstrating this?
I admit my style of play is very risky, but I have to confess that I enjoy dismantling players’ defenses little by little by staying in the air as opposed to staying on the ground with footsie games.
I understand what you’re saying but…come on, how many times did you eat a shoryu into a hadouken or Ultra?
I feel i can only give you a give a video of a shitty Ryu because you were playing a shitty Ryu. OR he didn’t know the match…at all, which is quite understandable, and not shitty in the slightest

Only thing Knucklez might be guilty of is flipping too much, but he’s a gangster and can get away with that
i understand that flying around and walldiving is fun as hell , its basically what Vega is all about , but like in your third video , the guy punished ur walldives rather well with srks to ultras , j. MP to ultra , FADCs , jump kicks , ex Hadokens etc etc
u really should be careful with walldives , especially against a shoto that has an ultra
walldiving back to the same corner is good to build up meter , but doing it too often against a good player will get u punished
This thread just makes me realize how much i suck
Alright so let me analyze your vids and give you some alternatives to wall diving. Anyone else, feel free to chime in. I’m not a pro by any stretch of the imagination, but i feel i can give some solid advice pertaining to these videos
First video: You had no business winning that match, and i’m sure you know that, but you did, so there’s no point in telling you that. It’s not your fault he missed the ultra
3:28 - Why on god’s green Earth would you wall dive into the corner after you had him sitting in said corner. He had absolutely no idea what to do and you let him off the hook. Make him fight out of the corner, don’t just let him out.
If he jumps, air throw his ass. If he does random Shoryus (which he did), my favorite punish for those is c.mp -> EX Barcelona -> Izuna
**
Second vid:** 0:26 - You either anticipated the jump-in, or you got lucky, either way he was easy to read and you countered accordingly. Instead of worrying about charging DB, you can always air throw if you see a pattern with him jumping in (which for him was every chance he could)
0:37 - You let him out of the corner again, this time with a wall dive away from him

You see the distance that he maintained the whole fight? I’m not good enough to where i can keep that distance for a whole fight, but that really should be the goal. I think if you stayed at this distance during your fight with this Ryu, he wouldn’t have been able to a round on you
That’s actually it for that one. Good job overall, just way too much wall diving for my taste
Third video: You should have realized about 35 seconds into it that wall diving was a bad idea. He FA’d the first one, made you eat a combo, and then shoryu’d the next one and made you eat an ultra. Then he blocked a Sky High (may as well be a wall dive) and made you eat a hadouken
1:35 - This has to be a different Ryu. He FA’d ANOTHER wall dive and made you eat an ultra
Either it’s a new Ryu, or he suddenly stopped jumping in so much…i can’t tell
2:00 - Lucky ultra, because you were gunna do it regardless, but good job on landing it anyway. Sometimes we need a little luck with the ultra
3:26 - Were you as shocked as i was that he blocked that? lol
3:37 - Just land on the other side. Ah well, he blocked it. Good for him. Don’t put yourself back in the corner that you worked hard to get out of by trying to land a move that doesn’t do much damage. And if you absolutely had to hit him, since it was an EX FBA, you could have let go of the direction while you were near him and hit punch, and it would have hit him twice. His counter to your wall dive was FA out of there. You could have countered his counter by making it hit twice, leaving him wondering why he didn’t just back dash out of there
4:44 - Again, just land it. That time he decided to hit you in the air, and it cost you. Could have been avoided by landing
5:36 - Ah, you do know about c.mp -> EX FBA, it just missed. Lame
And a tiny bit late on the ultra and you would have hit him with it too. Unlucky
To be fair to you Hotrod, you can only be as good as your competition, so if you’re able to get away with all that really risky stuff and still get to the finals, you won’t see a reason to change tactics. For me, it took a massive half-hour-long unbroken beatdown from another member of this site to realise that I needed to be more cautious. Check out the local matchmaking threads for your area, you should be able to find good competition in your area.
Zxero:
Wow! Thanks for the detailed analysis!
hey my xbox RROD on me so anyone who is my friend on xbl i wont be on until it gets fixed… with that being said im going to be hitting up more local tourneys around chitown, so if anyone knows of any in paticular that will be good pm me.

I decided to record the matches that I “upload” to PSN. It sucks that you can’t just access the replays via the internet but this is better then nothing. Recorded on my digi so ya. But you can make out whats going on.
Comments, suggestions, lulz?
nice match
all i can say is that dont wall dive mindlessly when Rog has an Ultra coz he can Headbutt to ultra easily from it ( if the Rog knows what he’s doing ) , and u did too many random STs , Rog’s jabs are fast as fuck and can punish those easily
other than that , keep it up
Not a bad match. I think you should have thrown out more st. rh to keep him from rushing you like that, but still it was a good match. I usually always throw out a FA or st. rh at the start of a round against rog so what happened during your second round can be avoided. Great punish on that hb at the end though.
