Hilarious match! What reactions, oh god! How do you have this kind of reactions? Training doesn’t give it. Every frigging elbow is punished. Great respect.
I’m totally getting destroyed by the 2nd Guy on PC. Cause everytime I try to beat him out of elbow, I get izuna grabbed. Why wasn’t Uenis once? Kiryu couldn’t do it or something else I’m unaware of?
And I really want to know if our online heroes like Uenis are participating in EVO. We still don’t know that. I haven’t even seen Uenis’ or BrokkenG’s or Araidon’s face once. Why don’t they go to tournaments, damn!
i saw a lot of Uenis’s matches back around the time super was released and occasionally checked out his matches. I honestly didnt think he was as good as his points let out to be. I thought half the people in this forum were far better than him. but man you can really see the thought process. Some of hat isnt reactions that he’s demonstrating. It’s the fact he knows that Kiryu is going to do something and already has the punish started. This is exactly what I’m talking about if any of you had a match analyzed by me and I said you need to think more. I learned a bit about that matchup (which is one of my weaker ones) by watching that. Uenis is constantly looking for either sweep or flip, and is ready for it with 1 option that beats both. Jump back.
Check out at 13 seconds. That Innocent jump back that I would normally ask why he was giving up space has a purpose. It’s not obvious at this point though. My first thought was that he is putting himself into the corner like everyone else (which actually helped it be more effective). You can see this almost constantly throughout the match where he neutral jumps and jumps back to counter every way Kiryu wants get in. Uenis just simply turned this into a 2 dimensional match. Jump back or neutral jump HP to counter aerial moves and run, and pokes to counter walking and dashing in.
17 seconds. look how he pushes back kiryu to mid stage. He was able to do this by using LP version RCF, and CH. Even though CH missed it still gained space, and put him into mid stage again.
Something I noticed was that after almost every jump back Kiryu flipped after him. I dunno if this was unpunishable and Uenis knew it or if it’s punishable and Uenis didnt catch it.
Also at 1:37 see how that EX FBA wasnt random? That was done because he saw the opponent focusing and knew that a backdash was coming.
One obvious thing I noticed though was that every time Uenis took damage it was either due to him mis timing a button press or more often, not blocking when he should be blocking.
2:44 he got free damage again due to knowing that kiryu was going to backdash. kiryu did not adjust at all the entire match. i also dont think kiryu could tell when Uenis was going to jump and when he was going to block and that’s probably the reason he didnt get to land bushin grab. The grab is almost if not more timing specific than Vega’s Izuna.
3:08 kiryu is clueless on what to do. He doesnt know why he’s losing and doesnt know how to get in. So now you see tons of random flips of hope just trying to grab or hit something.
As good as kiryu is, you can see how he kinda just turns into a typical online player toward the end. When you take away 2 main tools used to get in with 1 option this is the result.
Uenis really stepped up his game since the last time I saw his match
It is reactable, but you have to be careful not to get predictable with your jumps. There are two types of elbow :
— The special move (QCF + P) => (Flip’s) Flying elbow
— The normal jump (D+P) => Elbow drop
If you actually see the elbow, you can beat it by bjMP, and airgrab. I wonder if low hitting attacks would do the trick too (U2 is sure, but cMK could work as well).
However, if you’re a bit early, or if you get predictable (you’re the one jumping in) :
— Air grab and jMP will still beat the flying elbow or the grab (izuna drop)
— BUT EVERYTHING will lose to EX Kaizen izuna otoshi, which is his command grab while doing a normal jump. He’s invincible while doing this, if you’re in range, you will get grabbed no matter what you do. It could even beat Ryu’s U2 ^^. Experienced players maining Guy can even pull it out in reaction, so it’s important not do get predictable in the air against him. =)
Here’s BrokkenG’s one, it was posted some weeks ago by Kuroi aima : [details=Spoiler]

Indeed. Uenis likes to backjump to escape something, but here he uses this even more, that’s nicely pointed out.
If you’re talking about the flip’s izuna grab, then it’s much easier to land than Claw’s one : more range, works on standing opponents as well as airborne ones.
The command grab (kaizen izuna otoshi) done after a normal jump works only airborne, and while being longer ranged than claw’s izuna… wont turn into an elbow if missed, so it’s hard to land indeed.
But I think that Kiryu did adjust, at least to the match-up : see how he OSed the backflip at round one, continuing his combo and getting it fully hit (TC into shadow kick) . The thing is that, first he dropped combos (after the overhead, he does the cLK but does not follow), then he did not vary his game, nor tried to bait moves while Uenis was actually anti-airing him. He was on the low side in this match.
It is strange that I was also thinking the same when I first saw Uenis. Random wall dives, just cr.mp as a poke and footsie and no other normal. His biggest combo was ex.fba-izuna. Then when I started to see his matches again I was sure the one I remember was not Uenis. But now your saying that made me remember it was indeed him. There was also another player but I forgot his name. I hope he does the same surprise some time.
Yeah, the one I’m asking is the special one. When he does his QCF+P and is in the air, I also jump to slice him with j.mp, but he sees that and izuna grabs me although my j.mp’s animation has started, I’d even hear my claws metallic voice. So, in what circumstances does it beat izuna? Should I do it as soon as I leave the ground?
I think your jMP is being beaten 'cause you must be under him when you’re doing it. His grab box is mostly under him, and it’s there that it has the most priority.
So you should jump sooner. Or backjump to give you more time… and possibly try jLP if you’re still under him : it hits a bit above jMP.
If he does it from afar and you react soon enough, you will be at the same height, and then airgrab (and possibly jHP) are the best options IMO. =)
Btw, this person is Ragerunner. You should fight with him. His Guy is brutal.
I have found the only 2 practical uses of nj.mp was against Guy’s elbow and Honda’s hk.sumo splash. Cause your hitbox is above your hurtbox. But I never think of using it in those moments in a real match.
It goes without saying I was talking of the arc jump jMP, not the neutral one.
The njMP… has theorical uses, but like you I’m still wondering when it would suit best and I always forget using it in real matches. ^^
One of the uses I have for him is close to the one you have : it would use it against Izuna happy Claws, when they’re already above you (meaning airgrab would lose, same as against Guy’s).
I will try it against honda, but I’m skeptical. It is long to initiate, I’ve tested it against neutral jumps and it got beaten everytime 'cause of timing reasons. Honda’s buttsplash being faster than a neutral jump, I wonder if a FADC (or a backdash) wouldn’t do the trick better. =)
Well, there are also Sumo Splash happy Honda’s Focus don’t work against them when they do one after another and as its first 12 frames are inv. you have to land the focus before he flies again or the focus doesn’t hit. You have to punish them in the air or backdash and jump in as they recover on the ground. But you have to punish somehow. Focus is not good for punishing this move when it’s a spammer. I thought it was until I’ve faced a truely horrible but high point Honda who spams them like there’s no tomorrow. (a.k.a. Alexleder)
Possibly. Now his play wasn’t that bad, it’s just that given his fame, we expected more. ^^
[details=Spoiler]I I think another answer would rather be « stop teching, man ». If you pay attention he was teching almost each time he was command-thrown, and he was teching when he was frame-trapped by Bo’s FADC string.
To tech or not to tech is a matter of personnal choice. But against a grappler, it’s clearly pointless IMO. =)

I’m sorry if this is a stupid question, but near the beginning he links cr.mk to cr.mk and I for the life of me can’t replicate it on training mode. Could someone explain, please?
