Mastering the Mantis: Yang Combo Thread

Yeah that was my philosophy too but after attempting it many times back to back (after “getting it down”) in training mode, I still couldn’t do it more than like 2 times in a row, so I opted to go for the more reliable setup. You have to be so quick with it, so in a real match I don’t see myself going at max speed with the cancel too often. If you have better execution than me (highly probable) I’d say go for it. I just don’t trust myself with it lol

the c.MK JC HK dive kick U1 combo only does slightly less anyway and it’s way easier so I picked that one.

i always see people end yang’s rekkas with the light version. is there a reason for that?

Is it a good idea to practice these combos against the cpu just to get your muscles used to certain situations?

From what I’ve been told over the years. First off start with practice mode and the dummy on auto, and when you can get to the point where you can do the combo spot on every time, try turning on random block. After that, then try turning the cpu on.

Ohhhh. I see. I never even tried the random block before. What are the benefits of random block?

Hit confirms. So, when you do your cr.lk, s.lp, cr.mk, xx rekkas, sometimes it blocks the first hit, sometimes it doesn’t. Practice confirming before you go into rekkas.

Hopped on training mode just now and I found out you can do while in the corner, CR.LP (dont have to) ~ CL.MP~ HK DP then U2, Ex-DP, or CR.LK for reset.
I didn’t test it out on anyone else yet, so far it works on Ryu.

cl.lp, cl.hp should be easily possible. What I’m interested in is the possibility of cl.mp, cl.hp.

cl.mp leaves you at +6 on hit, cl.hp has a 6f start-up. It should be a 1f link, and would be stronger than the cl.mp, cr.mk link. Probably character specific (cl.mp pushes too far away, probably), but might work in the corner or against large hitboxes.

Also, updated the OPs some, mainly on notable normals.

not sure if this has been posted or not, but after you land a focus crumple, you can do EX Palm into ultra 1 for around 545 damage (if its a level 3 focus) or you can do it off of raw EX palm, but i didnt check to see the damage off of that, on half the cast it will work by just doing ultra after the ex palm, on the other half you need to dash in ultra, and the timing seems fairly strict on that.

it works without the dash on Dudley, Ibuki, Honda, Makoto, Seth, Gouken, Gen, Sakura, Juri, Dhalsim, Viper, Sagat, DeeJay, Cody, Guy, Hakan, Zangief, El Fuerte, Boxer, and T. Hawk, on some the timing is extremely easy, such as Dudley, Sakura, Sagat, and Fuerte, and on other its fairly strict, like on Boxer, Ibuki, Honda, and Gouken

im having a really hard time doing the rekka 2x in to fadc to cl.s mk. any suggestions to make this easier?

It’s a good 3-frame or 4-frame link. Really, you just have to FADC the second rekka as early as possible.

Idea- Try the old school Seiei Enbu loops.
also the enders for said loops with his mantis slashes. you’re not always going to have ultra to end it and imo it’s a waste due to scaling unless you reset somehow.

Also walk forward jab then u 1 is the best trollin combo unless his taunt still does damage.

The 3s seiei enbu loops are almost useless, do very little damage and push you far out.

if anything, end seiei enbu with a sweep so they can’t tech the knockdown and work from there.

Does anyone do the Nemo thing in the corner where he launches the opponent, palms, resets with cr.lk, cancels into meaty palm? I’m having a fuckton of trouble getting the cr.lk to hit…so I was wondering if anyone has any ideas.

Instead of resetting with cr.lk, reset with cl.mp? I can’t do it either.

Hm, I’m gonna try that. Might not help much though, since both have the same amount of active frames (on a side note, it pisses me off how much broken Yun’s s.mp and Yang didn’t get any love in that department).

There must be some trick to it…Nemo hits it 100% of the time, though I’ve seen Acqua miss.

I wanted to make you some questions …

After s.mk can not do whiff dive and 1 ultra … any advice?
After 2 mantis, FADC, s.mk, target combo (j.mk and dive kick) can go cross up only for a corner?
The Ultra 2 can c.lp combo, right?

After 3 c.lk why used to finish the combo with s.lk? There are differences of damage or stuns?

hmm regarding 2nd hit hp rekka fadc U1…

The move does 31 hit stun (2 active + 35 recovery - 6 frame disadv on hit)

31 - 4 (can only dash on the 4th frame of a fa) - 18 (dash) = 9 frames.

So youre at +9, and UC1 has 8f startup. So its a 2 frame link? Or am i wrong somewhere?
