Mastering the Mantis: Yang Combo Thread

If you guys would like to help, there’s a few things that I would appreciate:

Corner combos (meterless and metered)
Meaty combos
Frame traps
Palm combos

Thanks in advance. I’ll be looking through all these pages and making a list. You aren’t ignored. :3

My post on top of yours. Also, you can confirm M.palm into SE into U2 anywhere on the screen. Useful for when you want to end the round.

not sure if this been posted but from 2 cubes off midscreen.
cl.mk> jc. wiff divekickMK> cl.mk > jc. wiff divekick MK or HK > ex slashes x2 > u2 (partial)

Pretty much with 1 ex meter from almost midscreen you can combo and push them to the corner and land ultra 2. damage isn’t that high at 330 in training. the second JC. dive hk gets u a bit more distance. Its a pretty simple way to push your opponent into the corner from almost midscreen dont need to u2 after the slashes.

Whats the best mixup after cl.mk? I am finding cl.mk > j.hp > dive kick light or medium or jump mk to either side is a better setup than combo into ultra. the damage output from the mixup is way more than the longer corner push ultra.

@naiku

Another mixup you can add after the cl.MK is to do j.hp, then dash under after landing into another combo, or do a palm when you land, then mix it up with palm feints for bait. I’ve been doing the dash under since I got AE but I just saw the palm/feint palm one in a video (I think it was a Nemo match), but I don’t know how safe it is. The dash under is incredible in the corner because sometimes I don’t even know which side I’ll end up on.

I like to FADC after HP rekkas x2 on a hit confirmed combo into the cl.mk and mixup from there, or do the ultra if it will kill.

Iunno if this has been posted before, but fake palm is immune to alot of low attacks like ryu’s cr.mk but is hit by yun’s cr.hk probably coz of the size of the leg’s hitbox

It’s in the frame data yeah. I was able to dodge hakan’s slide. Not that everyone plays hakan, but… :stuck_out_tongue: ( seems like blanka’s one hits anyway.

I just spent a good amount of time working on mantis slash x2 into U1. There’s no shortcut to it but there’s a few things that I found helpful when doing it.

Practice doing qcf+p x3 manually without mashing. In particular, learn the timing of the third slash. The reason why you need to do this is because the 3P part of the ultra needs to hit EXACTLY when the punch of the slash is normally hit. Yes, this does mean that you need to do the focus, dash, and ultra all within the time that you’d normally do just a qcf+P.

You should hit confirm the first slash into the second, but as soon as you hit the second slash, everything should be autopilot. As soon as you do the command for the second slash, hit focus attack (afaik, there’s absolutely no way you can do it too early, don’t hit confirm the second slash). As soon as you hit focus, dash. That should buy you enough time to wiggle the stick to get the ultra out.

Also, if you’re one of those people that do super/ultra motions by doing qcf, (let stick hit neutral), qcf+ PPP/KKK, you’ll have trouble getting the ultra out in time. You’ll need to skip letting the stick hit neutral. The commands that you should be doing should literally be D, F, D, F as fast as possible (I ended up just wiggling the stick between down and forward really fast…that did the trick).

btw if you are gonna using U2 and are doing two st mks in the corner, i think doing one st mk and then a fierce palm into U2 does more dmg

After you do the hp dash under a few times you can mix it up with cl.mk jump forward wait until they’re about to hit the floor then j.hp jump forward then j.mk which crosses them up, very hard to block

hk roll recovers quicker than the other rolls, so you can raw link it to ultra 2 easily, or do something like. cl.lp, cl.mk, hk roll, U2 if the hk roll corners. you can get pretty good damage this way.

For fun in corner
cl.mk, mp/hp palm, ex roll kick, U2

seems to be character specific, but is easier if you only get 2 hits of the roll kick. if you start with a jump in to cl.mk does over 500 damage(hp palm with all 3 ex roll hits does 539), and the net meter loss is only about a 1/4 of an ex bar.

Another solution to this is to never let go of the mk button until you see your slashes. Just hold the button as you start the slashes and you never have to worry about that.

Normal Dash or Command Dash? I been messing w/ Command dash into a mixup after cl.mk > j.hk seems to work okay.

I haven’t seen anyone do st. jabs hit confirm into sweep, but it works - I just tried it out in training room.

It’s because it’s a 1-Frame link. A relatively easy one…but if you miss, it’s not a fun time. Until I get it down for sure I won’t touch it.

It’s hardly worth it. If you land a standing jab, you can get a soft knockdown with medium DP and an instant crossup if they quick rise (of course you can dive kick to stay in the front) or setup a meaty/cross/whatever if they don’t.

Yang is not a character that benefits particularly from hard knockdowns, soft knockdows are enough to rock people up, so in this case the less damage does not make up for it imo.

sweep is not that hard if you already played with characters like ryu
u just have to plink that shit
i can do it with my crappy execution so i guess everyone can do it
but i saw nemo(a player that made me play chun in sf4 and yang in AE) doing slashes or DP to knockdown so i guess that a better option

Haven’t read through the thread but in the corner if you get like cr.mk xx slashes fadc cl.st.mk, if you do MP palm you can do HK roll after for maximum(?) damage. I didn’t know this until recentlly, I used to do HP palm to LK roll, which does less damage, before i noticed this so…just putting it out there.

Is there anything good for Seiei-Enbu canceled off of MK DP?

Do you mean if you hit or on block ?

If you hit ( Then your opponent will be knock down ) It’s much better in the corner, you can palm to force him to block then dive kick > over head > loop.

If you do it on block : Try to overhead then loop.

I guess U2 Works after you hit. Probably not useful.

I meant on hit. We can’t do anything to juggle the opponent, aside from U2?
