Mastering the Mantis: Yang Combo Thread

Let go of the kick before you finish the qcf motion. I was having the same problem at first.

Anyone know if you can safe jump with dive kick? That would be the only way to set up a safe jump off a sweep. Also c.lp, s.lp, s.fp does good damage to whatever combo you want.

Yeah you can, I find it difficult to time though, since the height of the dive kick is completely up to you (heck I have trouble doing the double relaunch consistently =( ).

You can safe jump from his sweep without dive kick. I tried it against Fei for a long time in training (his is a 5 frame reversal) starting from the cr.lp, s.lp, cr.hk combo, wait a milisecond and jump in. Unfortunately not a brain dead setup like it is for Ryu or Cody’s backthrow.

What is a quick hard punish combo i can do with Yang? Meterless or one meter preferably…

That’s about as hard of a punish as you’re gonna get without a One-frame link in your way, using a FA or spending meter.

So basically cr mk is pretty much a god like universal tool to use with yang? lol.

i was thinking cr mk to ex slashes and hope it pushes them to the corner and then do u2.

Also, what is the preferred ultra w him? I find u2 is much more versatile overall.

cr.MK is not THAT gdlk. Remember, in terms of range, it’s not that great, if we face anyone that is good at poking wars it becomes less and less effective. Try throwing that out against Chun or Vega and see what happens to it. It’s a solid poke, but it’s nowhere near as versatile as a Shoto cr.MK.

Also, always try to confirm EX Slashes…throwing that out randomly on a 2 in 1 will get you killed and make you burn meter.

I prefer U2, just because I love punishing the crap out of what people do. If I even SEE a Focus charging on my wakeup, I throw it. Backdash won’t save them. It’s also hella easy to do after cl.MK. It’s decent at best for Anti-Projectile, but it’s not that fast so it’s better for a read on a projectile rather than a straight reaction punish. I find it better for nailing Focus Backdashes and people stupid enough to jump at me at the wrong time. Though I will admit nothing beats the accomplishment of using U1 and nailing a Yun at the tip of his Divekick.

got AE today (finally…), starting playing with yang in training mode and found out HP rekka*2 FADC UC1 extremely hard, the 2nd rekka needs to be FADCed very very early and the time allowed to input UC1 is so little… any suggestions?

(God those top japanese players made this look like ryu’s DP FADC UC1… never knew the timing is so strict)

FADC into close standing forward then dash or whiff dive kick into U1

U2 feels more versatile, but deals less damage.

I’ve gotta go with Ultra 2 as well. It’s much more useful from what I’ve experienced.

U1 is good for people who like to mash jab on wakeup or when your facing a yun player and he do his dash punch. I like U2 more though and it’s saved me a couple of times against shoto’s

U1 also beats shit like EX Lune on reaction.

I beat it with U2 on reaction so…yeah.

Both work. U1 just hits harder.

my only advice would be doube tap the cr.mk to double your chances of hitting it before the command dash comes out, i was having the same trouble but double tapping helped alot.

Ultra 1 is also a good anti and trades less then U2

I’m sure people knew this by now but in the corner if you confirm a meaty H.palm on their wake-up you can time EX slashes to hit 3 times into ultra 2. does 423 damage.
