Mastering the Mantis: Yang Combo Thread

New Seiei Enbu corner combo plus reset of choice. Not sure if this was mentioned but I’ll post for the sake of.

Quick Notes
MP Palm forces standing if the opponent is crouching.
Was tested on Ryu, Oni, Zangief.
Was also tested with a full Ultra meter.

Starters
-Cr. Mk, MP Palm, Seiei Enbu
-Cr. Mk, Seiei Enbu
-close St. Mp, MP Palm, Seiei Enbu
-close St. Hp, MP Palm, Seiei Enbu

Post Starters Combo
St. Lk, St. Mk, jump cancel, HK Dive Kick, repeat x3, Cr. Mp, Dash, Cr. Lk, Sweep to end
Damage is in the 370+ range

Resets
Once you get to the Cr. Mp stage of the combo, you can of course reset with a Cr, Lp, Lk or St. Lp which in turn sets it all up. The key is to reset close to the end of the Seiei Enbu gauge so you can connect an Ultra of choice.

Land an overhead and you get EITHER ULTRA of choice. (Preferably U2 which I’ll explain further)
Notes
*U1 *
-Overhead to U1 you can confirm from just 2 shadows connecting from Seiei Enbu for full animation.
441dmg on the reset.
-You can generally use a visual or sound cue to confirm in case. Not that hard to see overall.

PROS
Most damaging reset but not by much

CONS
Can miss if you miss time.
You don’t really have a low option reset outside of a Rekka setup or knockdown.

U2
-Overhead to U2 you can confirm with all 3 shadows connecting from Seiei Enbu for full animation.
435dmg on this reset.
-If they stand instead of crouch block during the reset, you can walk up, Cr. Mk, MP Palm, U2 for full animation.
495dmg on this reset.

PROS
More consistent due to U2’s start up of 0/4 (for those that don’t understand, its 0 frame on the U2 Flash Start up, and 4f to go active)
Almost impossible to miss
THE Ultra of choice in most instances save for a few matches like Zangief where U1 is more applicable and Seiei Enbu isn’t needed.

CONS
None. No reason to NOT use U2 for this powerful situation.

All in all you end up doing about 875+ dmg on this reset situation. Seiei Enbu is a dangerous tool indeed…nod nod nod

Not sure if this is known but you can connect U1 off an EX Palm anywhere on the screen. You just dash xx U1. Haven’t seen that mentioned anywhere.

Btw i donno if its obvious, but i havent seen anyone mention it. jumping HP can connect directly to U2 or U2

Pointless because if you hit Ex Palms you can just go into Ultra… i’m sure there’s even more damaging combos you can get out of this regardless, but it’s a cool looking combo :stuck_out_tongue:

While I will come off as an asshole on this one, the clp to cmk is stupidly easy even for a one frame link. Fucking deal with it. We can do it already, the Japanese do it all the time. One frame links are all over the place in this roster, they aren’t hard.

Was thinking of previous 3S combos and this came to mind which also works in AE…

(knockdown) meaty hopkick, st short, st short xx rekkas

The setup would be off untechable knockdowns of course so combos like: cr short, cr jab, st jab, cr roundhouse or rekkas, fadc, st forward, divekick (whiff), cr roundhouse would be ideal setups. Hopkick is -2 on block so its not too bad if blocked.

that’s a 1 frame link? I got it the first time I tried it last night, in a match, no training mode time in AE at all… only dropped it maybe once the rest of the night.

Since I can’t hit the PS3 today, I’m gonna spend my time today updating this thread. Already started on it some. Feel free to check for mistakes and let me know if you feel something needs to be added.

What’s an easy combo to use his super with?
Also what are some good combos for his Ultras?

Midscreen super: cl.s.hp xx lk dash (loop)
Corner super: cr.mp dash (loop)

Off a j.hp, j.hk, nj.hp, and nj.hk, you can combo into u1 or u2.
Off a cl.mk, you can jump, whiff a lk dive kick at minimum range, and link either ultra. If you’re uncomfortable doing that, you can do cl.mk, u2 or cl.mk, dash, u1
Off the second hit of HP rekkas, you can FADC straight into U1 or U2. If the timing is too tight, you can do hp rekka, hp rekka fadc cl.mk ultra.
Off an ex palm you can dash U1 or U2.

Lol at people saying his combos are hard. First time playing Ae I could do cl mp c mk and c lp c mk frame data is probably wrong, it’s not a 1 framer

Doesn’t feel anything like 1 frame to me (compared to to Fei’s Cw,hp 1 frame link) It feels more like three frames, lk,lk,lk is harder for me

There are hard 1-framers and easy ones. Fei’s CW, HP is “hard” because you have to time the HP yourself afterwards. Any 1 frame link that comes after a jab or any fast normal is ridiculously easy, which is the case with cr.lp, cr.mk; s.lp, cr.hk; and many other examples.

No, cl mp c mk is probably two with plinking it’s 3 but c lp c mk can be a 1 framer but it’s easy to hit. C lk c lp is a pain though -_-

Test it yourself. close mp is listed as +6 and cr.mk as having 6 frame startup.

If you think close mp is +7, link a mk (close or far, doesn’t matter) after it. If you think cr.mk is 5 frames, link one after counter hit close lk or hp.

The combo I been practicing is cr.jab x2, stjab, cr.forward, xx rekkas/drill kick. My issue is I keep getting a negative edge effect and doing a command dash by accident. Im just tapping the button ever so quickly and then trying to go into rekka but I get cmd dash after tapping forward. Any tips that I can try to stop this? I still main cammy but I want to learn yang just because I liked him in 3s.

I didnt see it posted here but cr.jab, st.jab, st,short, rekkas also works. It seems pretty good. His standing short is much better than his crouching.
