My first gripe about ME2 so far: I don’t like how they redid the map. I miss it being on the screen at all times.

You mean the radar? Because that’s a minor issue I have with the game. I wonder if they’ll correct that with their eventual patch?

The only patchable thing I’d like to see them do is increase the scan speed of the cursor when you’re planet mining. It wasn’t painful the first time through because game still had that “new experience” luster on it, and I turned on some music in the background, but on successive playthroughs I can see it getting highly annoying. Nothing less than 3x speed is acceptable.

My biggest gripe is why is spacebar now the one button for what use to be three completely different things? It makes combat a big clusterfuck especially on insanity.

I shouldn’t have to run from cover only to instantly snap on to the nearest chest-high wall or uncover and move only to vault over into open fire. ME1 let me do what action i wanted when i wanted to, the 360’s terrible control scheme does not work the same on a PC.

The upgraded speed is pretty good. Though, on PC, I have to kept lifting the mouse of the mouse pad to scroll the thing up, since it’s still slower than normal cursor speed.

Finally played it again, though this time on PC. One thing, it runs amazing at full settings and looks a lot better than the 360 version. I have a C2D @ ~3.4 and an 8800gt from 2007, and the game doesn’t ever slow down at all. I like that.

I still dislike the pacing of the story, and how 95% of the game focuses on your team, both assembling it and their personal drama. The more the Reapers/Collectors are involved, the more I gained interest. I also dislike how the “optional” upgrades to both your ship and crew aren’t so optional if you want a good ending. Seemingly useless (if you don’t use a particular character) upgrades, become super important later on, and this is never really conveyed to you.

Also, and this isn’t really that big of a deal, the combat basically feels like Sheppard + 2 auxiliary glass cannons. When you select a teammate’s special powers, they will hit your target from whichever angle they’re at currently, even if they’re behind a wall. So, in essence, you have Sheppards (faster cooldown) powers, and then two other sets of powers. It doesn’t even really feel like you have teammates, since their gunfire is usually insignificant, and what powers they have matters a lot more. Sorta minor, but I thought about it both playthroughs.

What I did enjoy was the game’s overall presentation. Each scene, the way the camera moves, the animations, the visual settings that Bioware assembles, it’s all very very good. Granted, the story behind the missions and various scenes may not be superb, it still doesn’t really take away from the eye candy. When you’re inside one of the alien ships later on, and you’re presented with an inside view of its interior, it’s pretty amazing looking.

As far as controls, I thought they were super simple on PC, and on 360. No complaints at all.

Thanks for tipping us off about the Dr. Pepper items, odin. I might actually use one of them since everybody and their fucking mom uses the Visor even though Infiltrators are the only ones who get a HUGE benefit from it.

I wish I had bought this for the PC. I got it for the 360 since it was what I first played the previous one on and it’s what I own a hard copy of the first on, but seeing how smooth and gorgeous the game actually looks on PC I’m kicking myself.

I just finished my first playthrough of Mass Effect 2, and I’ve got to say, I was pretty impressed. Overall, I think that ME 2 is much better than the first game.

In my opinion, the combat in ME 2 is a vast improvement over its predecessor. You really have to coordinate your tech, biotic, and shooting in order to defeat enemies (at least that was how it was for me; I did my first playthrough on the insanity difficulty level). In addition, I’m glad that Bioware got rid of the tedious vehicular exploration from the first game (I hated the Mako). I also like how your armor and weapons are upgraded, instead of the random loot system of the original (the amount of times that I had to convert an Armageddon X into Omni gel in ME 1 makes me shudder), although I do wish that there was a little more variety in weapons and armor.

The story was pretty short, but I do like how the personality and background for each character is explored more deeply than in the first game. But I agree with what some have said; once you finish recruitment, it is a bit of a disappointment to find out that you’re almost done with the game. However, my only major gripe about this game is how slow the scan speed is when you’re searching for resources. It was better than searching for resources in the Mako (that damn jeep), but it still felt like a chore, due to the scanner being so slow. Even when you upgrade the scanner, it still feels slow. Each time I scanned a planet, I had to throw on some music to make it less excruciating.

Overall, I think Mass Effect 2 is a solid game and a good sequel. Here’s to hoping that Mass Effect 3 focuses less on recruitment, more on plot development, and incorporates a less painful method of searching for resources.

i fully concur
but also i want more weapons + armor… at least twice as much if not thrice
come on… 4 sets of armor for each body part? mehhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

finished one playthrough, the game was awesome.

it was short, but I think intentionally. There’s a good amount of variety in how you can finish missions and treat your team, so on multiple playthroughs there’s less overlap in the experience. It’s one of the reasons it’s hard for me to sit through repeated RPG playthroughs, because you don’t get the thrill of seeing something for the first time. I’d absolutely hate this game if I had to play through 60 hours of the same conversations just to see a different ending or to try a different character class.

Holy fuck.
[spoiler=]
Just got Garrus. That entire mission blew all of ME1 out of the water. I am in love with this game.

twist

Spoiler

The collectors are…or umm were protheans that’s one of the best surprises in all of gaming holyfuck I’d bet money virtually no one saw that coming.

Edit: Yeah the Dead Space like opening was pretty damn sick, when I first got control of Shepard I immediately noticed how much more responsive and fluid moving him was.

Not enough talk about the opening. It’s been a while since I played a game where the opening starts off strong.

opening

Spoiler

That part where you open the door on the way to Joker, and you’re treated to a view of space with pieces of the Normandy floating everywhere…and no sound or music…just the sound of Shepard breathing…amazing. :amazed:

good looks Odin. I got all the Doc Pepper DLC

oh, and don’t forget

last level

Spoiler

you can see the illusive man for a quick second, watching behind the debris before he gives you a call to convince you to spare the facility. I guess he’s another human reaper (he’s huge). Might’ve been a glitch, anyone else see it?

Damn, I think I wanna redo ME1. I knew your romance option would not be playable, but I didn’t know at the time that they might be in ME3. My femshep 1 chose Liara the first time, then I went with Kaiden on the last playthrough which was imported. I think I’d rather have Liara. If I were a female IRL, Kaiden would suck, all that shit he’s trying to say when you give up the pussy, I’d be like “GTFO. My pussy’s not even wet anymore. NEXT” But I probably wont. I’ll play this character through ME2 twice also, and then probably give her to Garrus next run.

Then I gotta beat ME1 with my male Shep, he’s getting Ashley, and kinda renegade. Probably have human council. Only have Ilos and Citdel attack to beat with him. He’s going to screw the whole female crew.

Then femshep 2, only at lvl 14, so I have tons to do. I will probably barebones the rest of that playthrough, she’s paragon, I will keep alien council, and will have Liara and be faithful until ME3.

The Harbinger’s shit-talking gets annoying after a while. I always go after them first when I see them.
