Mashed Potatoes - The Hugo Combo, setups and character specific tech thread

You can do meaty hp.clap or CH hp.clap

for example the following combo is possible (keep in mind that hp.clap, hp.clap is a 1f link on CH, i think there’s a bit more wiggle room on meaty)

cr.mk, fwd.dash, hp.clap, hp.clap, mp.clap, ex.clap, lp.clap, cr.lp xx lk.lariat

Or with lvl 3 FA, focus attack is going to be hit or miss, the speed in which characters crumple after a focus attack changes depending on whether they’re standing or crouching, so lvl3 FA, hp.clap and lvl2 CH FA, hp.clap
may not work on crouching opponents (or a CH on an attack that counts as crouching).

Just for funsies, how many claps can max fit in a combo? Most I’ve been able to get is six.

CH hp clap > hp clap > mp clap xx red focus > mp clap > EX clap > lp clap > c.lp xx lariat

I feel like there should be a way to get a seventh with maybe dudley rose trickery or something, but I can’t think of how.

Purely impractical. Just combo vid stuff really.

Oh, and on the more practical side, technically, if you land a crumple and want to land U2, wouldn’t hp clap > mp clap > U2 do more damage than ultra throw > clap > U2? I mean, since after you would practically juggle after a level 2 focus crumple and all.

Counterhit HP Clap, HP Clap, MP Clap xx Red Focus, HP Clap, MP Clap, EX Clap, LP Clap.
The max you can do is 7 claps.

So when you set up the hp clap os ex bob if they mash dp it’s not safe or am I doing it wrong

If you time it correctly the EX BB should come out.
Results of the EX BB will of course vary depending on wich character and wich version of DP they are doing. Sometimes you’ll win, sometimes you’ll lose, sometimes you’ll pass trough each other without hitting.

Wait, what? If you have the frame to input EX BB, wouldn’t that mean you could’ve blocked that frame instead?
Only MP Clap whiffs recover in time to block DPs, so all but the slowest of invincible reversals should beat out meaty HP Clap.

Meaty HP Clap is ONLY safe against Sakura, Honda, Bison, Rose, Balrog (headbutt), Cody (ex/zonk only)and Rufus. Everyone else it will lose to a uppercut or various reversals. I think 8 frame reversals is the window as I haven’t gotten 7 frames to be safe (but it might be frame perfect meaty.)
Honda and Rufus actually HAVE to take Meaty HP Clap OS Ex BB they can’t do anything otherwise they’ll be beaten if you have the meter.

Is there a way to stop Bison from teleporting on his wakeup?

You can do hp clap os meatsquasher to catch teleports on wakeup

Edit: this doesn’t work. I caught a bison with this 3 times online so figured it worked lol but it doesn’t. On testing myself the bison player had time to jump out or depending which version of tp bison uses the meatsquasher can whiff.

does meaty clap beat out ex soul spiral from Rose? I didn’t think it did.

Other things to note in that matchup OS ex backbreaker loses to ex soul throw
JHOwever, OS ultra 2 beats ex soul throw

Yes Every reversal that’s 8+ frames of start-up is safe to do against.
That’s why vs honda and rufus they have to take it.
If honda does EX Headbutt it gets Ex BB OS. If he does Ex Ochio the meaty hits him out of it. If he does Ex Butt slam the OS will grab him. Backdash gets thrown as well meaning he has to take it unless he wants to try it hoping you messed up on your timing as it’s kind of strict vs him.

Rufus Ex Messiah will be thrown by Ex BB Os as well. Backdash gets caught. Snake strike gets hit meaty, but for some reason EX Snake Strike wasn’t activating the OS and he would go flying up and you could block it. Wake up Ultra 1 would actually hit though lol.

OS Ex BB Loses to Fuerte’s EX Legs (probably one of the characters you have to do safe jumps on TBH just because his reversal options are weird)

Also a note for those that don’t know Clap is considered a projectile and Vs Vega on knockdown I’d say go for the safe jump set-ups off hits instead of meaty claps that way he loses his reversals.

It’s probably that the input for the O/S isn’t as soon as possible and you’re getting the buffered block and because ex.ss active before the O/S comes out, you block instead (maybe). If i get some time tonight i might try it with just doing the O/S from neutral an seeing if he gets hit. I’d be more sure if the input for ex.bb wasn’t all offensive motions.

This is the same idea behind delayed O/S sweep buffering in blocking before the button press so the O/S can block slow invincible reversals which otherwise would blow up the O/S.

Is this the best option select for M.Bison it kind of shut all off his get away option down.

Personally I wouldn’t do an OS vs BIson unless you know he’s going to want to Ex PC or backdash. This is mainly because teleport backwards will give him a free combo.
Also Lariat, Cr.Mk Whiff, Hp clap is a better safer meaty against him. Lariat, Empty Jump DD+mk will beat PC or Trade so that’s a pretty good option too.

I agree with @ShADoW_NoBODy‌, Dictator is notoriously hard to O/S because he has so many escape options. From the two setups i used, it seems that Hugo doesn’t have a sure fire way to deal with ex.headstomp other than blocking and punishing. I’m pretty sure on block you can punish with U2 anywhere except mid-screen. Also funny enough, Hugo can’t walk/dash under head-stomp. (i.e. guaranteed chip damage up close).

With the meaty clap setup (cr.mk, fwd.dash, hp.clap) or (lariat, empty jump, leap attack)
-setup loses to super

O/S es.bb/U2
-wins against backdash, ex.pc, ex.sk, ex.dr
-loses to all teleports and ex.head stomp
O/S meat squasher
-wins against all teleports (except if he teleports toward the corner)
-loses to everything else including backdash)
O/S ex.ut
-beats ex.pc

Don’t forget that all reversals break armor so O/S ex.lariat/meat squasher or st.hp won’t work against the attacks the O/S is attempting to counter.

Also has anyone noticed, that if you do lariat closer to the opp, how Hugo will switch sides? (except in the corner)
hp.clap, mp.clap, ex.clap, lk/ex.lariat, empty jump, leap attack will swap sides consistently where
hp.clap, mp.clap, ex.clap, cr.lp xx lp.clap, empty jump, leap attack will always be in front

Edit: IF you have a really good feeling they’re gonna ex.headstomp, you can do the setup, O/S backdash into ex.bb/U2 mid-screen. backdash gets beat by ex.pc and ex.sk

Been trying to practice my 720 execution. Still can’t do it without buffering.

Here are some simple setups to add to forward dash raw ultra or empty jump ultra or whiff clap ultra

Anyone have other setups?

Some Safe jump Set-ups
Unless I mention otherwise the standard Lk Lariat and Ex Set-ups Should work on that specific character. If anything is wrong let me know and I’ll look into it or just fix it in my own post or notes. I probably did mess up somewhere I’m only human ;-;

Set-ups usuing slight wait can be done with either (dash then wait) or doing (St.Lk then wait)/(Wait St.Lk) it’ll be whatever is easier to you. I’ll just put the ones that I find easier.

Spoiler

Dudley
-Lk Lariat, slight wait St.Lk, Jump Body Splash

Gouken
-Lk Lariat, Dash SW FJ Body Splash/Nj Hp
-Ex Lariat, Backdash, JF bodysplash (HAS to be bodysplash or it’ll whiff)
-Ex Lariat, Cr.MP, JF Bodysplash
-Ex Lariat, St.Mp, NJ Hp
(Ex Lariat has several different set-ups just because of how gouken wakes-up and because Body splash leaves you in the air slightly longer than normal air moves.

Cammy
-Lk Lariat, St.Lp, Jf. BodySplash/Nj Hp

Decapre
-Ex Lariat, SW St.Lk, Jf.BS/Nj. Hp

Ibuki
-Lk Lariat, wait St.lk, Jf BS/Nj. Hp (this one was really awkward because the wait time is so awkward)
-Lk Lariat, Few steps forward (about 2 but going to have to practice to learn the timing) Nj.Hp/JF body splash (this one was actually easier than the other set-up)

Seth
-Ex Lariat, Dash SW Jf BS/Nj.Hp

Gen
-Lk Lariat, Dash SW, Jf BS/Nj. HP
-Ex Lariat, St.Mp, Jf BS/Nj.Hp

Chun-Li
-Lk Lariat, Cr.Lk, Nj Hp
-Ex Lariat, St.mp, Jf BS/Nj BS (BS lets you stay in the air long enough to hit)

Juri
-Ex Lariat, St.Mp, Fj BS/Nj. HP

Sagat
-Ex Lariat, St.Mp Fj BS/Nj. BS

Poison
-Lk Lariat, St.Lk, Nj HK (I couldn’t really find anything against her and this was the most consistent to not get beat.

Corner Forward Throw, Dash Dash, Jf Body Splash seems to cause reversals to whiff.

How to punish ex psycho crusherhttp://m.youtube.com/watch?v=8rzQX76Fs-Y#

I come bearing a new set-up this time it can be 3 frame safe jump! But it’s based on distance obviously.
Corner Forward Throw, Whiff Cr.Mk, NJ HK/HP. If you’re farther away from the corner you can forward jump as long as you’re not too far away.

If I did it right then it should work on everyone EXCEPT blanka (fuck this guy). The anti-safe jump tactics still work against it obviously IE Armor cancels/Ex Cmd grabs.

Certain characters seem to require Jump forward bodysplash. These would be; Ibuki, Rolento, El Fuerte, Thawk, And Adon. Some extra side notes; Chun Li Super beats it, Ken’s Super won’t, Sims U1 trades in his favor, Some Reversals will whiff entirely depending on the distance you are.

Back Throw Into the corner, Whiff Cr.Mp, Jf Body splash makes reversals whiff. Needs to be further tested.

Adding a combo and comparison to others
3Bar Punish combos
#1) Hp Clap, Mp Clap, RFC, Meat Squasher, St.Mp =485 Dmg/410 Stun, 3 Bars.
-Builds the least bar, but does the most damge
-Requires the St.Mp link without it 425/360
-Brings to the corner
#2) Hp Clap, Mp Clap, RFC, Hp Clap, Mk BB = 461 Dmg/380 Stun
-More Damage than #3 but less Meter.
#3) Hp Clap, Mp Clap, RFC, UT, Lp Clap, Lk BB = 457/450
-Builds the most bar

If we add in 4 bars and aren’t using super
Hp Clap, Mp Clap, RFC, Ex MS, St.Mp = 500/440
-Almost no meter gain, but the most damage
Hp Clap, Mp Clap, RFC, UT, Lp Clap, EX BB = 465/470

And in case you can only get a MP clap
#1) Mp Clap, RFC, MS, St.Mp = 420/345
#2) Mp Clap, RFC, Hp Clap, Mk BB = 393/310
#3) Mp Clap, RFC, UT, Lp Clap Lk BB = 392/395
